State and Trends of Sustainable Development of Tourism in Ukraine and the World

Nowadays, tourism is among the most important socio-economic sectors of the world economy, so the urgency of the problem under investigation is due to the need for sustainable development of tourism in Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to develop recommendations for the sustainable development of tourism in the world and in Ukraine, in particular, in the Carpathian region. To the leading methods of research problems of the article include the analysis of theoretical sources, analysis of statistical data, comparison. The article examined the essence of tourism, its categories, nature and factors of sustainable tourism development, studied the development trends of tourism in the world, analyzed the development of tourism in Ukraine and the Carpathian region, made the comparison of the indicators of tourism development in Ukraine and in other countries, identified problems of sustainable tourism development in Ukraine, ways of their decision are developed. The materials of the article have practical value for ensuring the sustainable development of tourism in Ukraine, in the Carpathian region or at the level of other regions of the country.

This article discusses the role of women in supporting sustainable tourism development in Bali by promoting Balinese cuisine to the tourism world. To date, studies on the role of Balinese women in the tourism industry have looked mainly at women as ordinary workers or professionals. In fact, Balinese women operate as culinary entrepreneurs who have not only been successful in introducing Balinese cuisine to the world of tourism but have opened up job opportunities for men and women alike. The data presented in this article was collected through observation of four leading Balinese women who run successful local culinary outlets or restaurants offering local dishes, and is complemented by interviews and other published sources relating to their business activities. The four pioneering women surveyed are Men Tempeh of Gilimanuk (West Bali) serving chicken betutu, the suckling pig restaurant manager Ibu Oka in Ubud, the owner of Made’s Warung Ni Made Masih, and the catering company owner Ibu Warti Buleleng, based in Denpasar. This article concludes that these four Balinese culinary heroines or srikandi have successfully managed to preserve and promote Balinese dishes to the world of tourism while contributing to the sustainable development of Balinese tourism by providing opportunities for tourists to experience local cuisine.

The article is concerned with solving problems related to the tourism sphere during the pandemic. The study is aimed at a scientific-theoretical substantiating the prospects for sustainable development of tourism of Ukraine in the context of pandemic. Elaboration of the set aim led to the need to solve the following tasks: establish the problems of sustainable tourism development during the pandemic; consider directions of sustainable tourism development; propose an improved concept of sustainable development of tourism of Ukraine during the pandemic. To achieve the aim of the study, general scientific and special methods were used. System analysis is a method that represents a sequence of actions to determine structural links between different elements of the system under study. Synthesis – the process of combining individual things and concepts into one. Induction is a research method in which a general conclusion is based on individual elements. Comparison – the similarities and differences of objects and phenomena are established on significant grounds. In order to effectively manage the sustainable development of tourism in the context of pandemic, according to the authors, cooperation between the State and local authorities, tourist enterprises, tourist infrastructure entities is necessary. Such a mechanism for administrating the sustainable tourism development is presented in the form of a scheme. Based on the concept of sustainable development, the directions of the strategy of sustainable tourism development during the pandemic are proposed. The basis of the proposed program is not only a survival strategy, but also advancing due to future significant changes in consumer preferences. The success of the proposed directions will have a positive influence on changing the social structure of society, will allow to stop the processes of increasing social tension and destabilizing the social system, will form favorable conditions for increasing the mobility of the residents of the country.

The issues surrounding the understanding and practice of sustainability in tourism are becoming increasingly important to both academicians and tourism planners. For more than two decades the attainment of sustainable development and the protection of touristic assets have been at the forefront of central policy issues in global tourism development. Recently, it has been argued that collaborative and associative forms of governance among tourism stakeholders are growing in importance in the drive for sustainable tourism development. Despite the increasing number of debates on the role of stakeholders in tourism, they are not well supported by empirical studies and how such stakeholders can contribute to the sustainable development of tourism. This study investigates various sustainable tourism development dimensions among tourism stakeholders and whether these dimensions depend on the demographic characteristics of stakeholders. By employing factor analysis, the study reveals that there is a set of sustainable tourism development parameters that is most common. The results also indicate that there is a significant difference among the tourism stakeholders in terms of perceived sustainable tourism development dimensions in India.

The paper considers one of the aspects of sustainable development - sustainable tourism development in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals aimed at preserving the natural resources of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The research of this phenomenon is carried out using the analysis of regulatory legal acts in force in the field of tourism. Since most authors consider the purpose of travel to be one of the generally accepted criteria for dividing into types of tourism, the study was conducted on the basis of one of the most common types of tourism – health-improving tourism, the conceptual apparatus of which is formed under the influence of various conceptual approaches, based on the actual resource potential and features of the promotion of tourist services in the territories of tourist destinations. The proposals on amendments and additions to the existing regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation determine the priority of the concept of “sustainable development” in the field of tourism activities.

This research aims primarily at finding and assessing indicators of sustainable tourism (ST) that can be applied to assess Parangtritis and Parangkusumo beaches in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, as well as studying predominant indicators in supporting the sustainability of tourism activities in the area. Those indicators assessed and revealed in this research are partly based on set of ST indicators as outlined by the World Tourism Organization guidebook (2004). They have been chosen in respect to the concept of sustainable development, which covers three main areas: ecosystem or environment sustainability, social development and economic development, with the emphasis on socio-cultural indicators. In this research, indicators of sustainable tourism development that have been classified based on the concept of sustainable development are then assessed and studied to reveal possible and appropriate application in the area. In addition, some other indicators are also profoundly important in contributing to tourism sustainability in the area.

The Tourism Industry in South Kerala focuses more on Houseboat Tourism and Backwater Tourism. The unique, natural features set this destination apart from nearby places, as backwater destinations are rich in numerous natural resources. The sustainable development of these resources will highly enhance the livelihood of the communities in the backwater regions. They will be able to attract tourists seeking unique backwater experiences. Therefore, this article intends to comprehend the stakeholders’ perceptions on Sustainable Tourism Development in the backwater destinations of South Kerala in India. A total of 277 respondents participated in the research and the study adopted a quantitative research design, while considering the influence of various factors on the Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability. The data gathered from the study illustrated that the perception of stakeholders about Sustainable Tourism Development varied across different groups. Hence, all the stakeholders in the Tourism Industry need to work together, as this coordination will help to strengthen future development plans, in order to minimize the negative impacts of tourism in the backwater destinations of South Kerala. The study has also identified key turning points that will help to reshape the Sustainable Development of backwater tourism destinations of South Kerala.

The article studies the problem of the volunteer tourism development as an important part of the concept of sustainable tourism. Approaches to the assessment of volunteer tourism and sustainable tourism development proposed by various international organizations (UNWTO, the Worldwide Council for Sustainable Tourism, the European Environment Agency, the European Commission) and scientists. The author substantiates the importance of forming the system of the sustainable development of tourism indicators, enriched with the concept of volunteer tourism and the need for continuous monitoring at different levels. It is concluded that volunteer tourism, directly manifested in the context of the development of each country, is considered by a number of international organizations, foreign and domestic researchers as a factor of sustainable tourism development. In the article, the hypothesis of a direct positive relationship between sustainable tourism development and volunteer tourism (volunteer tourists) is verified on the basis of a questionnaire survey of volunteer tourists. The proposed approaches to the assessment of the sustainable tourism development enriched with the concept of volunteer tourism cannot be considered universal, since each country needs its own system.

Tourism is a socio-economic activity and has evolved into one of the largest and fastest growing industries of the world. While the economic benefits of tourism are well known, the research evidence indicates that the benefits of tourism are rarely equitably distributed among the key stakeholders. In this context, sustainable tourism development (STD) as a long-term approach development aims to balance social and economic objectives with environmentally sound management. The sustainable development as a strategic tool requires a process of planning and management that brings together a series of interests and stakeholders’ concerns in the form of planning and development. Therefore, keeping in view the importance and relevance of stakeholder cooperation for sustainable tourism development, and the residents being the key stakeholders, this research examines the rural residents’ attitudes towards the impacts of the pilgrimage tourism. The results of the research points out that the sustainable development is important for responding to the current problems as caused by tourism development, as well as to address the needs of future generations.
