Background: Obesity cause various physiological changes in the body, one of which is insulin resistance causes high blood glucose levels. Chewing is a stimulus of cephalic phase responses and sensory stimulation that can increase hormones releasing such as insulin, ghrelin, cholecystokinin (CCK) and glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Chewing plays important role in determining postprandial plasma glucose concentration.Objective: Investigate the effect of chewing on postprandial blood glucose in obese adults.Method: This was true experimental research. Research subjects were treated in the form of chewing 22 times and 40 times each mouthful. Blood glucose levels were measured using glucometer on fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. Statistical test using Independent t-test.Results: The mean postprandial glucose levels in the 22 chews group at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes were 112.11 ± 14.3328, 126.11 ± 15.667, 116.94 ± 15.539, and 89.67 ± 11.668 . While the mean postprandial blood glucose levels in the 40 chews group at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes were 122.22 ± 14.381, 129.61 ± 15.112, 109.50 ± 14.995, and 85.83 ± 13.963. There were statistically significant differences between chewing groups 22 times and chewing 40 times on fasting blood glucose and 15 minutes postprandial blood glucose (p = 0.041 and p = 0.042), while on 30 minutes postprandial glucose testing, 60 minutes , and 120 minutes there was no significant difference (p> 0.05).Conclusion: There was significant differences in 15 minutes postprandial blood glucose level between group 22 times chewing and 40 times chewing each mouthful.

Background: This article provides a clinical update using a novel run-to-run algorithm to optimize prandial insulin dosing based on sparse glucose measurements from the previous day's meals. The objective was to use a refined run-to-run algorithm to calculate prandial insulin-to-carbohydrate ratios (I:CHO) for meals of variable carbohydrate content in subjects with type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Method: The open-labeled, nonrandomized study took place over a 6-week period in a nonprofit research center. Nine subjects with T1DM using continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion participated. Basal insulin rates were optimized using continuous glucose monitoring, with a target fasting blood glucose of 90 mg/dl. Subjects monitored blood glucose concentration at the beginning of the meal and at 60 and 120 minutes after the start of the meal. They were instructed to start meals with blood glucose levels between 70 and 130 mg/dl. Subjects were contacted daily to collect data for the previous 24-hour period and to give them the physician-approved, algorithm-derived I:CHO ratios for the next 24 hours. Subjects calculated the amount of the insulin bolus for each meal based on the corresponding I:CHO and their estimate of the meal's carbohydrate content. One- and 2-hour postprandial glucose concentrations served as the main outcome measures. Results: The mean 1-hour postprandial blood glucose level was 104 ± 19 mg/dl. The 2-hour postprandial levels (96.5 ± 18 mg/dl) approached the preprandial levels (90.1 ± 13 mg/dl). Conclusions: Run-to-run algorithms are able to improve postprandial blood glucose levels in subjects with T1DM.

Health status and micronutrient intake among vegetarian and non-vegetarian in BaliBackground: Several studies have reported that vegetarian diets have health benefits for those adopting the diets.Objective: This study aimed to compare anemia status and micronutrient intake between vegetarians and non-vegetarians in Bali.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Bali. A total of 240 samples consisting of 160 vegetarians and 80 non-vegetarians were randomly selected. Hemoglobin (Hb) and fasting blood sugar levels were measured using the cyanmethemoglobin method and enzymatic colorimetric, respectively. Meanwhile, the data on micronutrient intakes were collected by interviews using the semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQFFQ). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the Mann-Whitney test was performed to analyze the differences.Results: The study’s results showed that the mean Hb levels in the vegetarian group were significantly lower than non-vegetarians (p=0.002; p<0.05), and the anemia status in vegetarian women were higher (22.5%) than non-vegetarian women (2.5%). The mean fasting blood glucose level in non-vegetarians was significantly higher than in the vegetarian group (p=0.000; p<0.05). There were no differences in zinc (Zn) intake between vegetarians and non-vegetarians, but there were significant differences (p<0.05) in vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B12, folic acid, magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and iron (Fe) intakes.Conclusions: There were differences in anemia status and fasting blood glucose levels between vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The fasting blood glucose levels of non-vegetarians were higher than vegetarians, and there were differences in the intake of certain micronutrients between vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

This Research was conducted to determine the effect of ethanol extract from red chilli (Capsicum annuum L)in lowering blood glucose levels of hyperglycemic male white mices. This study used 30 malewhitemices and divided into 6 groups: negative control group, the positive control group, the treatmentgroup withdosage of 200 mg / kgweight, 400 mg / kgwieght, 600 mg / kg weight and a comparison group with glibenclamide with dosage of 5 mg / kgweightadministered orally for 21 days. The level of fasting blood glucose was checked 6 days after dexamethasone induced, and after the ethanol extract of red chilies on day 7th, 14th, and 21st. The data was analyzed statistically with one –way and two-way Anova by usingSPSS16 program and proceed with the test Duncan to look the significant difference between treatments. The results showed that the ethanol extract from red chilies with a dosage of 200mg / kgweight, 400mg / kgweight, 600 mg / kgweight showed the effect in lowering blood sugar levels in male white mices hyperglycemia significantly (p <0.05). The duration ethanol extract of red chili affected blood glucose levels. The most effective duration in lowering blood glucose levels is the administration of a preparation within 21 days.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus is a leading cause of death and disability in the world and its prevalence is predicted to rise to 10% by 2030. Hence, this study is conducted with objectives to find out the effect of aerobic exercises and resisted exercises on blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) subjects and to compare the effect of both exercises on blood glucose level.Method: The comparative study was conducted at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed University, Physiotherapy department, Karad. 30 participants with age group between 30 and 65 years were taken. Subjects were selected as per inclusion and exclusion criteria. Group A (15) participants were given aerobic exercise on static bicycle, and Group B (15) participants were given resistance training using dumbbells and weight cuffs for 5 days/week for 4 weeks. Diet recommendations were given to every participant.Results: Statistical analysis was performed using paired and unpaired t-test. Analysis showed statistically extremely significant difference in fasting blood glucose level and postprandial blood glucose level in both the groups (p≤0.0001).Conclusion: Thus, this study concludes that both aerobic exercises and resistance training prove to be beneficial in controlling blood glucose levels in T2DM subjects.

Background: Polyphenols, antioxidants, dietary fiber, and vitamin contained in the red dragon fruit peel. Red dragon fruit peel can be processed into marmalade. Red dragon fruit peel marmalade has the potential to be a functional food. Functional food is food that has a physiological function based on scientific studies.Objectives: The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of red dragon fruit peel marmalade on fasting blood glucose levels, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides levels of hypercholesterolemic Wistar rats.Methods: This study used a pre-&post-test control group design. Hypercholesterolemic male Wistar rats were randomly assigned into five groups. Hypercholesterolemia was induced by 1% cholesterol powder and 0.5% cholic acid for two weeks. All groups received standard chow. Samples were grouped into five groups: K-; K+; K1 (0.94 g/kg b.wt/day); K2 (1.41 g/kg b.wt/day); K3 (1.88 g/kg b.wt/day). The intervention was carried out for 28 days. GDP level was measured using the GOD-PAP. HDL, LDL, and triglyceride were analyzed with spectrophotometry. GDP, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride levels were measured twice before fasting. A paired t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data.Results: The result showed that K-; K1; K2; K3 had a significant difference between groups before and after the intervention (p<0.05). Red dragon fruit peel Marmalade was able to reduce the levels of GDP, LDL, triglycerides, and increase HDL (p <0.05).Conclusion: Red dragon fruit peel marmalade reduced fasting blood glucose levels, LDL, triglyceride levels, and increased HDL levels of hypercholesterolemic Wistar rats.

Diabetes is one of those metabolic disorders that are typically characterized by an increase in blood glucose level, glycosuria and ketonemia. This widely spread disease and its complications result in thickening of vascular tissue, PVD, neuropathy and retinopathy. Repaglinide is the first member of the newer class of drugs that are designed to lower the postprandial glucose. The most prevalent problem faced by those drugs are very low solubility and thereby causing the oral delivery very inefficient leading to low bioavailability and improper dose and release proportionality. Research attempts are being put towards enhancing the oral bioavailability of repaglinide kind of lipophilic drugs to improve the clinical effect. Out of those methods to improve the solubility and bioavailability, Nano suspensions have been a promising method to facilitate the above problem. Nano suspensions can be applied to enhance the solubility of Repaglinide too. So, in this research, Repaglinide particle size reduction has been performed, and nanosuspensions were tested for their clinical efficacy invivo. A nanoprecipitation method was developed to prepare Repaglinide nanosuspension using poloxamer as a stabilizer. The prepared formulations had been tested for the clinical efficacy invivo in albino Wistar rats. The results showed that the nanosuspensions have been very efficient in lowering the postprandial blood glucose levels and also facilitated the consistent release of the drug, which is evident from the constant lowering of glucose level. The prepared nanosuspensions showed a very potent and found to clinically efficient compared to the pure drug and drug suspensions.

This research aimed to determine glucose levels of beagle which is maintained by Sports Association of Pig Hunting (PORBI) in Kenagarian Mungo Sub-district Luak District Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra. Blood samples were collected from 20 beagles. Blood sampling was performed during fasting time and two hours postprandial. Data were analyzed with analysis of Chisquare (x2). The results showed that mean glucose level in the fasting state beagle was 63.45±11.84 mg /dl and two hours postprandial was 93.45±12.52 mg/dl. The test results showed statistically significant differences (P<0.05) postprandial, hunting frequency and multivitamin injection on blood glucose levels. The test results showed no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) between the frequency of feeding and supplementary feeding on blood glucose levels. Conclusion average blood glucose levels beagle still in the normal range. There is a difference in blood glucose between two hours postprandial with a fasting blood glucose levels and the difference between the hunting frequency and giving multivitamins injection on blood glucose levels and there was no difference on blood glucose levels between the frequency feeding, and supplemental feeding.Key words: beagle, glucose levels, hunting, multivitamins

Objective: To evaluate effect of Withania coagulans and liraglutide on serum Glucagon like peptide-1, Postprandial and Fasting Blood Glucose levels in streptozotocin induced diabetic rat. Study Design and Setting: This randomize control trile was conducted at Islamic International Medical College in collaboration with National Institute of Health Islamabad. Methodology: This randomized controlled study was performed on a total of forty male Sprague dawly rats, which were initially divided into two groups; Group A (n=10) and Experimental Group (n=30). Diabetes in the Experimental group B was induced by intraperitoneal administration of streptozotocin for 5 days (30mg/kg/day). Diabetes was checked in experimental group by measuring fasting blood glucose (mg/dl) on day 6. Experimental group was further divided into Group B (Diabetic control), Group C (Withania coagulans-treated) and Group D (Liraglutide-treated). Blood sampling was done at day 30 and serum GLP-1, postprandial and fasting blood glucose levels were measured and compared in all groups. Results: Fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels of group C and D were significantly reduced as compared to group B. Serum GLP-1 levels were significantly increased in group C and D as compared to group B. Conclusion: Withania coagulans reduces hyperglycemia in diabetic rats through increasing GLP-1 hormone.

Background and objectives. Gluten-related disease affects less than 1% population and is not considered of relevance at the public health level. However, the consumption of a gluten-free diet has been most commonly adopted as a special diet worldwide in the recent past. In the present study, we investigated the association of gluten intake and diabetic Wistar albino rats. Methods. Thirty adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: control, diabetic, and test treated with pure gluten (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight). Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal injection of Streptozotocin (65 mg/kg) after a dose of nicotinamide (110 mg/kg). Body weight, fasting blood glucose levels, postprandial blood glucose levels and histopathology of the pancreas were compared. Results. Fasting blood glucose levels and postprandial blood glucose were significantly higher in diabetes animals but there were no significant changes in gluten treated groups. Other parameters were not significantly changed among different groups. Conclusions. Gluten at doses 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg is not a diabetogenic diet and hence it needs not be excluded from diet for the prevention and management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
