Good water quality is critical to support the life of organisms. The determination of water quality status was needed as a reference to monitor water pollution. This study aimed to assess the condition of water quality based on the concentration of surfactant and oil parameters in the Depapre waters, Jayapura Regency. Sampling was carried out in five research stations; then the results were compared with water quality standards based on KEPMEN-LH No. 51 Tahun 2004 for marine biotas. The result showed that the concentration of surfactant in Depapre waters was 0.08–0.22 mg/L, while the oil concentration was 0.14–0.41 mg/L. Based on water quality standards, surfactant and oil concentration has not exceeded the quality standards and are suitable for marine biotas in Depapre waters, Jayapura Regency. Results showed the condition of  Depapre waters had not been polluted by surfactant and oil waste. However, it does not rule out the possibility that the concentration can increase so that it needs further efforts from the government and the community to minimize the amount of surfactant and oil waste entering the marine environment.

Abstract Coastal land that is adjacent to the sea are still is influenced by the tide. Cirebon coast generally have ramps and high turbidity due to sediment supply and waste from the river that empties into the sea. Cirebon coast is divided into two areas, namely governance City of cirebon and Regency of cirebon. Coastal conditions closely related to river, estuaries, and the ocean in the region, the changing nature of the river caused by human activities will affect the water quality and coastal environment. Environmental pollution occurs mainly in the fisherman areas and industry. Determination of contamination status was determined using the pollution index according to equation 1 Sumiotomo and Nerow (1970) in the Minister of the Environment decree No. 115 of 2003 on Guidelines for Determination of Water Quality Status. Criteria for determining the level of water quality based on water quality standards for marine life by the Minister of Environment Decree No. 51 of 2004. The methods of research is done by the measuring of pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, salinity, organic matter using Water quality Cheker along the coast cirebon within 500m - 1Km from the beach in June as a representation of the dry season. Research has been conducted to determine the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) and the local communities opinions around the landfill Suwung. The method of determining the station was done by purposive sampling, where the station sampling was determined by selecting a place which was expected to represent the whole area.Water sampling of dug-wells was conducted by using a water sampler and the shallow bore-wells using a 2-liter bottle. Data was analyzed by descriptive comparative referenceto class I water quality of the Bali Governor Regulation No.8 of 2007. The public opinion data was obtained by using aquesioner filled by respondents who have and use wells and shallow bore wells for their daily needsand it was analyzed by using frequency distribution tables. The results showed that the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) did not meet water quality standards in accordance with the rules of the class defined in the Governor of Bali Regulation No. 8 of 2007. The water pollution index (PI) of dug-wells at a distance of 1-400 meters was in hearily polluted category, while water fromshallow bore-wells drilled at a distance of 1-200 meters was in the category of hearily polluted and at a distance of 201-400 meters was in the category of medium polluted. There was an increasing range of groundwater quality deterioration in 1997, 2008 and 2014. In 1997, contaminated shallow groundwater has occured at a distance of 80 meters, while in 2008, the pollution has occurred up to a distance of 375 meters and in the year of 2014 the contamination occurred from a distance of 1 meter to 400 meters. The average of score Pollution Index (PI) of Water wells in the year of 2008 amounted to 14.55, while in 2014 up to 15.44. It is estimated that the water quality of dug-wells and bore-wells will meet the quality standards in accordance with the value of the pollution index at a distance of over 5000 meters and 750 meters of the Suwung landfill waste. Most of the respondents who live in the vicinity Suwung landfill waste tend to give an opinion that the shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) has decreased quality as drinking water. Approximately 75% of respondents thought that the well water in their environment has been reduced in quality.

Water quality is one of the crucial parameters in monitoring and evaluating watersheds. A large number of parameters causes the monitoring and evaluation of watershed performance to be less efficient and costly. This study aims to determine the main parameters as a method of simplifying water quality observation parameters by producing equations that can be used to predict the level of pollution of a non-point source pollutant (watershed). A sampling of surface water was carried out by purposive sampling at several outlets located in the Brantas and Upper Solo watersheds. The research parameters analysed were: TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, Phenol, Free Chlorineine, Sulfide, Arsenic, Fe, Pb, Phosphate, Nitrate, Nitrite, Detergent, Turbidity and E. Coli. The results of the analysis of water quality are used to calculate the value of the Pollution Index (PI) according to the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 115 of 2003 and to determine the class of water quality standards that refer to Class III water quality standards, in Government Regulation No.82 of 2001. The analysis showed that all samples were at mild to moderate pollution levels, and did not meet class III water quality standards. Multiple regression analysis produced two equations, namely: Model 1: PI = 3.952 + 91.668 Phenol and Model 2: PI = 3.086 + 80.167 Phenol + 0.152 BOD, with R squared values of 53% and 69.9% with a confidence level of 0.005. Thus the prediction of pollution levels of similar watershed can be made only by using the two most influential parameters namely phenol and/or BOD alone.

Balikpapan bay has an important and strategic role, such as a buffer for sustainability of the estuary function as the Balikpapan seaport. In Balikpapan esuary watershed there are large and small rivers, including Somber River. Settlements and industries around the river banks have caused a decrease of river water quality, especially activities that place pollutant loads (waste) on the river bodies. This research is focused on physical and chemical parameters, including Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), temperature, pH, and DO (Dissolved Oxygen).Water quality research was conducted by dividing the river into 7 measurment points. The distribution of measurement points was based on water quality considerations that represent upstream, middle, and downstream water quality, as well as considering easy access. Water samples at each mesurment point ware collected at three different depths (vertically). Concentrations of several parameters that have been obtained were then analyzed using the Pollution Index method (Pollution Index) which is used to determine relative pollutant levels to the allowed water quality parameters. The testing procedure by pollution index refers to procedure poured in the Decree of the State Minister for the Environment No. 115 in 2003 concerning of Determining Guidelines of Water Quality Status. Based on the field measurments, an average value for temperatures obtained ranging from 30.0 - 32.1 ° C, TDS values 4270 mg / L - 10000 mg / L, DO ranges between 1.8 mg / L - 3.1 mg / L, and pH values between 6.6 - 7.1. From the calculation and data analisys of physical and chemical parameters, the research can be concluded that the location of measurement point 1 shows water quality status being lightly polluted, while point 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 shows water quality status being moderately polluted. Keywords: Water quality, estuary, Somber river, pollution index

Background: Today possibility of rendering water non-potable by various types of contaminants (physical, chemical and biological) is of considerable importance. It is not only the microbial contaminants but also the physical and chemical contaminants, playing an important role in compromising our health in many ways. The aim of this study was to assess the physical, chemical and the microbiological quality of commercially produced bottled water in Pokhara city. Methods: A study was conducted to assess the quality of bottled drinking water produced in Pokhara city. Total of 21 brands of bottled water was collected, first batch in monsoon season and second batch in pre-monsoon season, from the market. The physical, chemical and microbial assessment was carried out as per National Drinking Water Quality Standards, 2062. Coefficient of variation and t-test were applied where applicable. Results: Better water quality was found in Pre-monsoon season than that of monsoon season, in regard to microbial assessment. None of the samples in first batch tested positive for coliform whereas in second batch 38.2% of samples tested positive for coliform. Coefficient of variation for pH and chloride content was, 8.9% and 6.1%, 35.6% and24.19%, in pre-monsoon and monsoon season respectively. Both were found to be statistically significant. While other tested parameters were within normal limits. Conclusions: The quality bottled drinking water available for sale do not meet the standards given by National Drinking Water Quality Standards, particularly the microbial quality.
