The government has also shown its interest by launching two different types of loan schemes. Among the three different types of institution, the microfinance banks dominate the sector.

SummaryData on 2972 marriages in rural areas and 1180 marriages in urban areas of North Arcot Ambedkar district of South India, during 1982–88, were analysed. The mean age at marriage of females was 18·6 in the rural and 19·6 in the urban area. The proportion of females married before attaining the legal age of 18 years was higher among the rural community (36·8%) than in the urban community (28·9%). Univariate analysis revealed an association between early age at marriage and the socioeconomic variables religion, caste, consanguinity, marital distance, spousal age difference, education and occupation of both bride and bridegroom, and socioeconomic status of the family. Multivariate analysis showed an independent relationship of marital distance and bridegroom's occupation with early age at marriage of females in the rural area alone and the bridegroom's education in the urban area alone. Consanguinity, spousal age difference and bride's education were found to be independently related with early age at marriage of females in both rural and urban areas.

National development in general aims to improve people's welfare as measured by poverty indicators. In reducing poverty, one focus of the government is to reduce poverty in rural areas that have a higher percentage than urban areas. One of the government spending aimed at reducing poverty in rural areas is the Village Fund. This study aims to determine the effect of the Village Fund on poverty at the Regency/City level in Indonesia. This study uses quantitative data that focuses on economic variables consisting of the Total Poor Population as the dependent variable and the Village Fund as the main independent variable. In addition, Village Fund Allocation, Gross Regional Domestic Product, and Capital Expenditures are used as other independent variables. As a material for analysis and compiling recommendations, qualitative data in this study were used in the form of in-depth interviews with the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance and the Fiscal Policy Office. The analytical method used is panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model. The result shows that the Village Fund variable has a negative effect on the Total Poor Population. This shows that the Village Fund is able to effectively reduce the number of poor people. However, based on the results of in-depth interviews, there are at least three aspects of the Village Fund policy that need to be improved namely covering improvements to the formulation aspects, aspects of strengthening supervision, and aspects of increasing innovation in the use of Village Funds.

Many rural residents are still married under the age specified in the Indonesian marriage law. There are many reasons why they are forced to do it in Pleret sub-district there is an increasing trend of people who marry at an early age. A qualitative case study research was then conducted to naturally describe the causes of the practice of underage marriage in the research location. The socio-juridical approach was carried out on the data that had been collected through observation, documentation and in-depth interviews with informants selected by purpossive sample. Most of them do early marriage because of economic and educational factors. The causes of intervention or the role of parents or cultural customs do not have as much influence as the first two factors. The age limit of marriage in the legislation has not been clearly and strictly understood for their own future interests so that it still provides opportunities for the practice of early marriage.

Abstract Indonesia has long faced issues relating to child marriages. This article will focus on the approaches taken by diverse parties to the issue of early marriage, including the government, civil society organisations, and young Indonesians themselves. Indonesia has witnessed the growth of online campaigns spearheaded by conservative Muslim youth promoting early marriage to prevent zina (adultery and fornication). Previously, the practice of early and child marriage was closely interconnected to rural areas, poverty, patriarchal norms, family honour, and low-level access to education. Today, early marriage does not exclusively relate to low socio-economic populations in rural areas; instead, emerging trends demonstrate that middle-class youth in urban areas professing to return to the true path of their religion are also turning to early marriage. These tech-savvy generations are aligning honour with piety in order to justify the decision to marry young, impacting on the ongoing battle against early marriage in the country.

According to the latest estimates, roughly one-third of the total population of the developing countries live in poverty, majority of which are rural inhabitants (as reported 35 percent of the Pakistani rural mass). In Pakistan, the income distribution has worsened in the rural areas while it has marginally improved in urban areas during the period 1979 through 1996-97 [Pakistan (2001)]. The rural poverty is continuously feeding unemployment through migration of unskilled people to the urban areas. Poverty reduction is a priority area for Pakistan. The government is taking measures for addressing problems of the poor who are the most vulnerable amongst the different socioeconomic groups. Poverty alleviation is the main focus of the government in addition to develop physical infrastructure in rural areas and remove income disparities between income groups and regions.
