<p>This study examined the use of authentic experiential-based videos in self-explanation activities on 32 polytechnic students' learning and motivation, using a mixed method quasi-experimental design. The control group analysed a set of six pre-recorded videos of a subject performing the standing broad jump (SBJ). The experimental group captured videos of two subjects performing six variations of the SBJ. They then proceeded to analyse those videos as with the control group. All students then attempted a worksheet designed to elicit various levels of principled understanding of the topic on "projectile motion". In addition, data on students' motivation to learn and learning outcomes were measured by using three subscales of the Motivational Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) ― task value, critical thinking, and self-efficacy ― both before and after the intervention. Data were also collected through online pre- and post-tests, classroom observations as well as reflection journals. No significant differences between the experimental and control groups in terms of the post-intervention results were found (<em>p</em> &gt; 0.05). However, the results suggested that use of experiential-based videos and video-based tools may in fact be more beneficial for students who are weaker in critical thinking and self-efficacy, to gain a better understanding of their learning.</p><p> </p>

BackgroundWhilst there is evidence to suggest paramedics experience significant stress when working in the ambulance setting little is known about the experiences of first year paramedic students. This research aimed to: (i) identify whether levels of stress, anxiety and depression experienced by first year paramedic students changed after ambulance placement compared to a control group, and (ii) identify the main perceived and actual sources of stress around ambulance placement.MethodsA before-and-after quasi-experimental design was used to compare whether the experience of ambulance placement altered the levels of stress, anxiety and depression in an experimental group that attended an ambulance placement (n = 20) and the control group who did not (n = 10). Online surveys encompassing the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and qualitative questions about sources of stress were concurrently deployed to both the experimental and control groups before and after the ambulance placement. Participants were first year paramedic students working in Queensland Ambulance Service, Australia.ResultsThere was a significant reduction in levels of stress in participants after undertaking their first ambulance placement (Mdn = -4.00) when compared to a control group (Mdn = 0.00), U = 52.5, p = .035, n2 = 0.15. Responses to survey questions suggest anticipation about experiencing death and dying of patients was the most frequently reported stressor of student paramedics before undertaking ambulance placements, however insecurity about knowledge, competence and fear of failure was the most frequently experienced stressor reported after completing ambulance placements.ConclusionsThe findings from this study suggest that the fear of the unknown may be worse than the reality. Anticipatory stress is the foremost problem for first year paramedic students attending their first ambulance placement. Placement pre-briefing should focus on educational interventions to build knowledge and skills competency to reduce stress levels and fear of failure.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Bronchial asthma among children is a common chronic disease which may have impact on quality of life. Health education is one of the strategy to improve knowledge and quality of life.OBJECTIVE: The study aims to assess the effect of health education via mobile application (app) in promoting quality of life among schoolchildren with asthma in urban Malaysia during the COVID-19 era. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, pre- and post-intervention design was used in this study involving a total of 214 students, randomly assigned into two groups (intervention group and control group). The control group received face-to-face health education while the experimental group received health education via a mobile application.RESULTS: The findings showed that the total score of quality of life (QoL) has improved from a mean total score at pre-intervention (5.31±1.27) to post-intervention (5.66±1.28) for the control group, compared with the experimental group with a mean total score of QoL at pre-intervention (5.01±1.36) and post-intervention (5.85±1.29). A comparison between the experimental and control groups using an independent t-test showed statistically significant differences in their mean QoL scores. The effect of health education via mobile application showed a statistically significant improvement in the mean QoL score from pre- to post-intervention [F (1,288) = 57.46, p = <0.01].CONCLUSION: The use of mobile technology in health education improved QoL as compared to the traditional methods of face-to-face lecture and/or handbooks among schoolchildren with asthma. Thus, educational modules using mobile applications do improve QoL.

The prosocial behavior of preschool children hasn’t developed, so it is much needed to conduct some ways to develop the prosocial behavior. Storytelling using Wayang Kancil is one of the wealth of Indonesia Nation. It is expected to be an interesting media that can stimulate prosocial behavior of preschool children. The purpose of this study is to find whether story telling using Wayang Kancil can enhance the understanding of prosocial behavior for preschool children. This study uses quasi-experimental method, which involves two subject groups from two Kindergartens as experimental and control group. The implementation of storytelling using Wayang Kancil is delivered by storyteller. The knowledge measurement of prosocial behavior for subject is well conducted before and after the treatment. The measurement is conducted by giving stimulus like pictorial story to the subjects. After that, the subject’s answer is given score depends on scoring criteria. The analysis data uses Mann-Whitney U Test that shows the significant difference in understanding prosocialattitude between experimental and control groups (Z=-3,137; p=0,002 (p<0,01)). The understanding of prosocial behavior in experimental group is higher than the control group.

<p><em>Dengue vector control has been done in various ways, however, has not been able to obtain optimal </em><em>results. Ovirap use to determine the presence of Aedes sp in a region is often done, but the application </em><em>of lethal ovitrap for population control Aedes sp still rarely done. This study was aimed to assess the </em><em>effect of LO applications on populations of Aedes sp. </em></p><p><em></em><em>This research includes quasi experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group without </em><em>randomization. Research sites in dengue in endemic areas in Banyumas district, with a total sample of </em><em>100 homes in each treatment and control areas. Insecticides used on ovistrip is cypermethrin at a dose </em><em>of 12.5 mg ai/strip. Populations of Aedes sp measured each week for three weeks prior to the </em><em>intervention and twelve weeks during the intervention. The mean density of Aedes sp compared before </em><em>and after intervention and between treatment and control areas.</em><br /><em>The study showed the difference of mosquito densities before and after the intervention in the </em><em>experimental group was 0,07 ( p-value 0.044), whereas the control group was 0.037 (p-value 0.341). </em><em>LO use with the addition of insecticide active ingredient cypermetrin on ovistrip impact on the decline </em><em>density of Aedes sp.</em></p>

Emotional competence (EC) is important for children’s social adjustment and sustainable development. The present study designed a school based emotional competence learning (ECL) program and examined its effectiveness with 56 Chinese preschoolers aged 5–6. A quasi-experimental design was employed to examine the impact of the ECL program on young children’s EC. Two upper Kindergarten classes (Daban) for children aged 5–6 were randomly assigned as experimental group (n = 31, 42% girls, Mage = 68.31 months, SD = 3.75) and control group (n = 25, 44% girls, Mage = 68.16 months, SD = 3.77). The experimental group was engaged in a 15-week ECL program, whereas the control group had similar duration courses without emotional competence training. All the children were administered the Test of Emotion Comprehension, Expression Identification Task, and Emotion Regulation Strategy Inventory before and after the intervention. The results indicated no significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the pre-test. In contrast, the experimental group outperformed the control group in most EC components in the post-test. Meanwhile, the experimental group demonstrated greater increases in EC components. The findings suggest that this ECL program has strong potential as a school-based, structured program for enhancing children’s emotional competence. The educational implications of these findings are discussed.

This study aimed at investigating the roles of debate technique with rebuttal type in a speaking class setting. It was motivated by the fact that EFL students tend to be passive in speaking activities in the classrooms. This present study applied quasi-experimental design by involving two groups of students: the experimental group and control group in which each group consisted of 35 students of a vocational high school in Malang, Indonesia.  The findings suggest that the use of debate technique with rebuttal type empowers the learning activities to be more effective and interesting. It provides the issues in the pubic area and increases the critical thinking of the students. The implications and suggestions were also discussed. The adaptation of sports equipment seeks to adjust the learning environment to students’ characteristics. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of adapting the basket height on the execution and decision-making of technical–tactical skills, self-efficacy, cooperation, and students’ perception in a basketball unit. A quasi-experimental design with a control group, pre-test, and post-test was carried out in an eight-session basketball unit. The control group completed the tasks with a basket height of 3.05 m, and the experimental group completed the tasks with a basket height of 2.80 m. The execution and decision-making involved in passing, shooting, and one-on-one situations, students’ self-efficacy, and cooperation were assessed before and after the basketball unit. Students’ perception was assessed throughout the basketball unit. The use of an adapted basket height promoted better execution, more occurrence, and more efficacy for shooting, as well as an increase in the specific individual self-efficacy. The use of the standard basket height involved different technical and tactical solutions by the students as well as an increase in the occurrence and efficacy in one-on-one situations. The students in the control group did not increase their specific individual self-efficacy. The scaled equipment resulted in more variability in the solutions performed by the students (balance between shooting and one-on-one actions).

Caring for the persons with first episode psychosis is challenging and demanding. It may lead to the increased burden, expressed emotions among the caregivers. The numerous studies have shown that high burden and negative expressed emotions among caregivers can lead to early relapse in the patients with first episode psychosis. To evaluate the effects of the brief psychoeducation on the caregivers burden and expressed emotions. A quasi experimental - before and after with control group research design was adopted for the study. A total of 60 caregivers have participated in the study, of which 30 caregivers in experimental group and 30 caregivers in the control group. Family Burden Interview Schedule (Pai and Kapoor, 1981) and Attitude Questionnaire (Sethi et al., 1981) was used to assess caregiver's burden and expressed emotions. At end of the psychoeducation intervention, burden among caregivers and negative expressed emotions of the caregivers have significantly reduced. The positive expressed emotions have been increased. Study results demonstrates the importance of psychoeducation intervention in reducing the burden and negative expressed emotions.
