A biannual chemistry demonstration-based show named “Energy and U” was created to extend the general outreach themes of STEM fields and a college education with a specific goal: to teach the First Law of Thermodynamics to elementary school students. Energy is a central concept in chemical education, most STEM disciplines, and it is the concept at the foundation of many of the greatest challenges faced by society today. The effectiveness of the program was analyzed using a clicker survey system. This study provides one of the first examples of incorporating real-time feedback into large- scale chemistry-based outreach events for elementary school students in order to quantify and better understand the broader impact and learning outcomes.

A major challenge for society today is how to secure and provide plentiful, healthy, and nutritious food for all in an environmentally sustainable and safe manner, while also addressing the multiple burdens of undernutrition, overweight and obesity, stunting and wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies, particularly for the most vulnerable. There are considerable ethical questions and trade-offs that arise when attempting to address this challenge, centered around integrating nutrition into the food security paradigm. This chapter attempts to highlight three key ethical challenges: the prioritization of key actions to address the multiple burdens of malnutrition, intergenerational justice issues of nutrition-impacted epigenetics, and the consequences of people’s diet choices, not only for humanity but also for the planet.

Misinformation and disinformation are prevalent across society today, their rise to prominence developed mainly through the expansion of social media. Communication has always been recognised in health and care settings as the most important element between people who are receiving care and those delivering, managing, and evaluating care. This paper, through a discourse approach, will explore communication through the perception of information formed following personal selection of influencers and try to determine how such affects patient care.

Abstract Public Service Interpreting and Translation –PSIT– is a specialty of the studies of Translation and Interpreting that generates controversy in the specialized literature in its most basic defining aspects. For this reason, a reading of the literature will reveal a lack of consensus in its own conceptualisation; something essential for its social and professional knowledge/acknowledgment. Thus, this article will focus on the denominational plurality of the PSIT in Spain and will offer a quali-quantitative analysis of the names under which it is known in Spain and the use of these names in two of the most popular social media in Spanish society today: Twitter and YouTube.

Pompeii represents a special lens for understanding urban games during the Roman period, with its preservation of the daily surroundings, monuments, and artefacts of performers, organizers, and fans, as well as the notices (edicta), graffiti, paintings, and objects that attest to the arrangements for and engagement with spectacles. Particularly important is the evidence for how Pompeii (and likely other small towns) differed from Rome: as to scale, the financial resources of local magistrates, obviously, could not compare to those of the emperor. Pompeiian graffiti indicate that deaths were few during fights and the architectural details of the amphitheatre point not to the participation of ferocious wild beasts, but rather local animals. The painted edicta suggest that the occasion and dates for spectacle did not coordinate with the most important festivals celebrated in Rome or in the main towns of Campania. Nevertheless, games held great importance even in a ‘minor’ urban context such as Pompeii, as evident in the popularity achieved by some magistrates for having organized munificent games, and in the spreading celebrity of performers, so deeply rooted in society today.
