Modelling the Seepage of Groundwater: Application of the Viscous Analogy and Numerical Methods

Abstract The application of the viscous analogy, known as the Hele-Show model, for seepage investigation is demonstrated in the paper. The changes in the viscous properties of the model fluid (glycerine) resulting from the changes of the atmospheric conditions - temperature and humidity, have been taken under consideration as factors influencing the flow discharge in the model. A method has been substantiated for the exact quantitative comparison of discharges obtained under different boundary conditions of the seepage process using parallel rheological measurements of the model fluid. The results from the viscous and mathematical models are compared for a particular two-dimensional seepage process - the operation of a horizontal drainage. The complete coincidence of these results, proves the good grounds of the method as well as its applicability as a test method for the development of mathematical models.

This study applied SERVQUAL scale of Parasuraman et al to measure factors affecting customer satisfaction on service quality at Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank - An Giang Branch (Techcombank An Giang). The study was conducted to survey 207 customers who have been using the service at Techcombank An Giang. The survey results were analyzed by the Cronbach's Alpha reliability test method, then used Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to verify and evaluate the scale of service quality. The results of the regression analysis show that customer's satisfaction about service quality at Techcombank An Giang includes four factors: The factor with the highest level is the Empathy with Beta = 0.253, the second of factor is the Responsibility with Beta = 0.248, ranked third in the influence level is the Tangible with Beta = 0.235, and the lowest impact level is the Reliability with Beta = 0.144. The research also uses statistical methods to describe and test the differences of demographic factors with customer's satisfactionon service quality.The analysis results show that there is no difference between customer's satisfaction on service quality and factors such as gender, age, income, number of transaction banks, regular transaction banks, and time to use the service at Techcombank An Giang. Through the research results, the author would like to propose some ideas to improve the quality of services, thereby attracting new customers and importantly, keeping traditional customers because the development orientation of Techcombank is to take care of old customers to cross sell other products of the bank. The Stud results offer a basis for the branch to identify the factors influencing customer satisfaction on their service quality, thereby having an appropriate strategy to improve customer satisfaction.

<p>Snowmelt runoff predictions in alpine catchments are challenging because of the high spatial variability of t<span>he snow cover driven by </span>various snow accumulation and ablation processes. In spring, the coexistence of bare and snow-covered ground engages a number of processes such as the enhanced lateral advection of heat over partial snow cover, the development of internal boundary layers, and atmospheric decoupling effects due to increasing stability at the snow cover. The interdependency of atmospheric conditions, topographic settings and snow coverage remains a challenge to accurately account for these processes in snow melt models.<br>In this experimental study, we used an Infrared Camera (VarioCam) pointing at thin synthetic projection screens with negligible heat capacity. Using the surface temperature of the screen as a proxy for the air temperature, we obtained a two-dimensional instantaneous measurement. Screens were installed across the transition between snow-free and snow-covered areas. With IR-measurements taken at 10Hz, we capture<span> the dynamics of turbulent temperature fluctuations</span><span> </span>over the patchy snow cover at high spatial and temporal resolution. From this data we were able to obtain high-frequency, two-dimensional windfield estimations adjacent to the surface.</p><p>Preliminary results show the formation of a stable internal boundary layer (SIBL), which was temporally highly variable. Our data suggest that the SIBL height is very shallow and strongly sensitive to the mean near-surface wind speed. Only strong gusts were capable of penetrating through this SIBL leading to an enhanced energy input to the snow surface.</p><p>With these type of results from our experiments and further measurements this spring we aim to better understand small scale energy transfer processes over patch snow cover and it’s dependency on the atmospheric conditions, enabling to improve parameterizations of these processes in coarser-resolution snow melt models.</p>

Abstract Most of the anatomical mathematical models that have been developed to study the human knee are either for the tibio-femoral joint (TFJ) or patello-femoral joint (PFJ). Also, most of these models are static or quasistatic, and therefore do not predict the effects of dynamic inertial loads, which occur in many locomotor activities. The only dynamic anatomical model that includes both joints is a two-dimensional model by Tumer and Engin [1]. The model by Abdel-Rahman and Hefzy [2] is the only three dimensional dynamic model for the knee joint available in the literature; yet, it includes only the TFJ and allows only for rigid contact.

By analyzing the background of land leasing in Shanghai, the hypotheses of the mathematical models of industrial land leasing in Shanghai are proposed, and then, the mathematical models of the land price and land area are presented for analyzing the factors of industrial land leasing. Based on the mathematical models and the district data of Shanghai from 2007 to 2015, the factors influencing industrial land leasing by the district government are studied. It is shown that the influencing factors, such as the land area, GDP, tenure of district mayor, and the distance between the land and the nearest subway station, affect the government behavior on industrial land leasing.

Two-dimensional and three-dimensional mathematical models of diffusion and cathodoluminescence of excitons in single-crystal gallium nitride excited by a pulsating sharply focused electron beam in a homogeneous semiconductor material are compared. The correctness of these models has been carried out, estimates have been obtained to evaluate the effect of errors in the initial data on the distribution of the diffusing excitons and the cathodoluminescence intensity.

AbstractThis paper presents two mathematical models for temperature field analysis in a new hybrid magnetic bearing. Temperature distributions have been calculated using a three dimensional simulation and a two dimensional one. A physical model for temperature testing in the magnetic bearing has been developed. Some results obtained from computer simulations were compared with measurements.
