Rational and responsible self-medication (SM) is not only the key to better health outcomes, but also key to limiting adverse drug events. This institution-based cross-sectional study utilized seven- and four-item scales to assess the knowledge and attitude towards SM. Similarly, SM practices were measured using eight scale questions consisting of SM practice during the last six months, type of drug consumed, reason and frequency of SM, and so on. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS. Overall, 371 students completed the questionnaire. The students with a good level of knowledge and positive attitude towards SM were 60.64% and 66.8%, respectively. About 55.5% of students practiced SM during the last six months using antipyretics (37.7%), multivitamins (36.4%), sleeping aids (20.2%), and anti-histamines (18.6%). Headache (79.2%), fever (37.7%), pain (25.9%), and colds and coughs (25.3%) were the illnesses for which they sought SM. The students admitted that drug side effects (75%), drug resistance (33.7%), drug interaction (41.5%), and poor treatment outcome (28.3%) were the consequences of irrational SM practice. Students (87.6%) propose that extending SM awareness through the Ministry of Health (83%) and pharmaceutical companies (48%) as major platforms would improvise the rational practice. Since AlMaarefa University students will be future healthcare professionals, their perception must be considered and accordingly educated to practice rational SM.

Donation of the tissue or organ of human body from a living or dead person to a living recipient in need of transplantation is organ donation. In the field of modern medicine organ transplantation is one of the greatest scientific advances and remains the most challenging and complex. It saves thousands of life. The main objective of the study was to explore the knowledge and attitude of organ donation. A descriptive cross- sectional study using self- administered questionnaire tool was conducted among 154 Bachelor level students who were selected by using non probability consecutive sampling technique. The obtained data was entered on SPSS 20 version program and analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive statistics (Frequency, percentage, mean, median, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (chi square).The study found that 57.1 percent had moderate knowledge on organ donation and more than half (69.5%) had neutral attitude on organ donation. Knowledge on organ donation was poor. There was significant association (0.014) between ethnicity and knowledge level. The study concluded that there was moderate level of knowledge and neutral level of attitude on organ donation among bachelor level students and there was no significant association of socio-demographic variables and level of knowledge except ethnicity. It therefore suggests awareness programs on organ donation for college students to promote and upgrade their knowledge and attitude about organ donation.

Context: Health and well-being before marriage help to maintain the health of future children. Therefore, healthcare should begin before marriage through premarital care as it can recognize and modify health risk factors well-known to have adverse effects on pregnancy outcomes. Aim: The current research carried out to examine the effect of pre-marital care educational program on the knowledge and attitude of female university students.  Methods:  A quasi-experimental design (Pre-test/Post-test) was adopted to achieve the stated aim. A stratified sample of one thousand female students was recruited. The research was conducted at the Nursing and Commerce Faculties at Kafrelsheikh University, Egypt. Two tools constructed by the researchers: self-administered questionnaire and Pre-marital care attitude assessment scale. Results: The research findings revealed that 32.30% of nursing students have a high level of knowledge pre-program compared to 54.00% post-program, while 21.00% of commerce students have a high level of knowledge pre-program compared to 41.00% post-program. Moreover, there was a statistically significant difference between mean knowledge score pre and post-program (p< 0.001). Concerning students’ attitudes, it was observed that positive attitude expanded from 54.700% to 66.00 % among nursing students and from 49.00% to 57.500% among commerce students.  As well, there was a statistically significant difference between pre-program and post-program attitude levels (p< 0.001). Conclusion:  the research hypotheses were accepted as the knowledge and attitude of students were improved after receiving the program suggesting its effectiveness. The study recommended that university students should be equipped with adequate in-depth health information related to pre-marital care to expand the general population mindfulness and impact their attitude toward pre-marital care.

In the emergence of global halal market, developing halal human capital with provisions of knowledge and skills are indispensable for professional efficiency in management and implementation, especially for Malaysia as the world’s leader in the halal industry. Therefore, it is important to determine the awareness among Muslim university students on job opportunities and their intentions to choose career paths in halal industry. The objectives of this study were to determine the level of Muslim university students’ awareness, knowledge, and attitude of halal jobs; and to determine the relationship between awareness, knowledge, and attitude towards behavioural intention of halal jobs. A structured questionnaire was used as a research instrument to collect responses from 1,454 final year Muslim university students in public and private universities located in the Klang Valley, Malaysia. Data were analysed using descriptive analysis and Pearson correlation. Results revealed that the Muslim university students have a high level of awareness, adequate level of knowledge, and high level of behavioural intention of halal jobs. There was also a significant but weak relationship between knowledge and attitude towards halal jobs. In addition, there was a moderate relationship observed between awareness and attitudes among Muslim university students. The present study concluded that the positive awareness, knowledge, and attitude towards halal jobs influenced significantly on their behavioural intention towards halal jobs.

Introduction: Organ transplantation is an effective therapy for end-stage organ failure. However, there is a large gap between the need for and the supply of donor organs. Nurses have a major role to play in tackling organ and tissue shortages. The main objective of the study was to assess the level of knowledge and attitude on organ donation among nursing students at Biratnagar. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study design among Post Basic Bachelor in Nursing (PBBN) students was carried out in Birat Health College, Biratnagar. A census method using a self-administered semi-structured questionnaire was used for the data collection in 113 respondents. Descriptive statistics i.e., mean, median and standard deviation was used to assess the level of knowledge. Inferential statistics i.e., Chi-square test was used to find out the association between level of knowledge and attitude on organ donation with selected demographic variables. The findings of the study showed that out of 113 respondents, the mean age of respondents was 24.41 years. Similarly, 32.7% of the respondents were from 1st year, 33.6% from 2nd year and 33.6% from 3rd year. More than half, (60%) of the respondents were Brahmin/Chhetri. Similarly, (68.1%) had heard about organ donation from colleagues. Among the studied respondents, (69.9%) had average knowledge of organ donation and almost all (99.1%) of respondents possessed a positive attitude on organ donation. Conclusion: The majority of the respondents had an average level of knowledge and a positive attitude regarding organ donation. The level of knowledge was associated with ethnicity rather than other socio-demographic variables. Keywords: Attitude, Knowledge, Nursing students, Organ Transplantation, Organ Donation.

To ascertain the level of knowledge among primary school teachers towards the management of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) in school and to determine the preference among teachers regarding the education tools that can be used to increase awareness and knowledge among them. A total of 150 teachers from primary schools in three different districts were included in the study and they were given self-administered questionnaires to be filled. The validated questionnaire was distributed randomly in the selected schools. The questionnaire included two scenarios comprising of tooth fracture and avulsion. Questions regarding awareness and management of these scenarios were asked. All 150 participants answered the questionnaire; of these 74% were females 26% were males. 64% of the participants had received tertiary education. Although 70% of teachers had obtained first aid training, only 9.3% of them had received training regrading dental injuries. About 53% of participants knew the correct answer for the appropriate response to fractured tooth and only 35.3% managed to correctly answer the question related to appropriate response to an avulsed tooth. Only 38.7% knew about appropriate rinsing solution and a mere 4.7% were familiar with proper storage media. Even though the teachers have poor knowledge regarding management of dental injuries, it is reassuring to know that 93% of them are keen on further training and awareness. More educational programmes need to be introduced to empower the teachers with the relevant knowledge required to deal with dental emergencies.

Decision of organ donation has enormous potential to save countless lives and health team play a vital role in counselling of patients and their family in decision making regarding organ donation in the ultimate stage of life. For this reason, evaluation of factors which can enhance knowledge and positive attitude towards organ donation has paramount importance. Present study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude of adults regarding organ donation and to find out role of video assisted teaching in behaviour modulation. Data from 80 participants were collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire. Pre-assessment was done before intervention of video-assisted teaching and post-assessment was done following that. Data were analyzed through SPSS software using Spearman’s Rank Co-relation. We found a negative co-relation (rK= -0.1122) between knowledge & attitude of adults regarding organ donation before video-assisted teaching regarding organ donation. A direct and positive co-relation (rK=+0.294) was observed between knowledge and attitude of adults regarding organ donation after video assisted teaching. We found that video assisted counselling provided by the medical team has great potential in promoting actions regarding organ donation. It is recommended that video assisted counselling should be applied to enhance knowledge and attitude regarding organ donation among general population.
