Improving learning quality in 21st can not be separated from contextual learning and student-centered learning paradigm. Through the contextual lesson study program conducted in learning-forest prototype to build learning community. The objectives of this research were to improve learning activities of postgraduate students in Biology Education department and to build a learning community. The implementation of lesson study was conducted in the Biology Learning Innovation subject for postgraduate students while practicing to observe open lesson was conducted in the undergraduate students which used learning forest-prototype. The postgraduate students took roles as planner, observer, and reflector in the plan, do (open lesson), and see (reflection) activities. The lesson study implementation was conducted for three cycles in even semester of academic year 2015/2016. Students learned collaboratively and contextually. The postgraduate students’ learning activities were observed by six observers from lecturer colleagues. The research results showed that the students were able to implement planning, open lesson, and reflection properly. The average of student’s learning activity grade was 91.11% from all of students, with the grade averages for planning, open lesson, and reflection activities were 88.89%, 93.33%, and 91.11% respectively. The implementation of this lesson study in the learning forest-prototype can be done in other relevant subjects to strengthen learning activities.

The development of instructional especially media of a herbarium book is an innovation that aims to assist students in searching directly the object of leaf morphology studies. This development research starts from the needs analysis stage which is used to gather information, planning in media making, media design, media making, after that product validation by a team of media experts and material experts, then testing individual products, small groups and large groups. The subject of this product testing were students of the Biology Education Study Program at Pasir Pengaraian University. The results of the validation by the material experts showed that the quality of learning media using the herbarium book on leaf morphology material was included in the "very feasible" criteria, with an average score of 86.46%. The results of validation by media experts are included in the "very feasible" criteria, with an average score of 88.54%. Individual assessment obtained the criteria of "very feasible", with an average score of 84.16%. Judgement from small groups obtained a percentage of eligibility of 81.45% with very feasible criteria, and judgement from large groups of 83.95% with "very feasible" criteria. The results of the development of herbarium book media are very decent.

This study aims to improve the activity and results of student learning in the subject of Anatomy Plant through a comparative study  model based lesson study. The method used is classroom action research with 4 cycles. Samples used  in this study is the third semester students of regular education courses Biology FKIP Veteran Bangun Nusantara University Sukoharjo force 2012/2013 as many as 24 people. The study began in November 2013 and April 2014. The learning activities were observed in the form of discussion and presentation activities, while learning outcomes measured were the post-test results after completion of the learning process of each cycle. Data analysis techniques with comparative descriptive, comparing the results of learning and learning activity cycle with the cycle I to IV. From the  results of this study concluded that the average post-test or study results from Cycle I to IV increased starting 3.47, 3.72, 3.73 and 3.85, though in terms of learning activities is still not satisfactory because it only categorized quite active for the first cycle to the active cycle III and cycle IV. Keywords: Model Comparison learning, learning activities, learning outcomes.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to improve the results and learning process of Genetic subjects in the Biology Education Study Program through lesson study (LS). The research type is descriptive, the sampling technique used purposive. The study sample used 40 students in the sixth semester of class a Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Education, University of Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. The research data collection technique used observation, documentation, and tests. Data on student learning outcomes and LS-based learning processes were analyzed descriptively. LS implementation in this study consisted of four cycles and each cycle consisted of three stages, namely: planning, implementation, and reflection. Classically the average value of students' cognitive achievement is 82.1% in cycle I and II while in cycle III and IV it increases to 82.67%. Data from LS implementation observation results obtained an average value of 91.63%. The conclusion of this study is the application of LS learning can improve student achievement and learning processes on Genetic subjects in the Biology Education Study Program. It is recommended to other researchers to conduct similar follow-up research in broader research areas, more samples, use more complex research designs, and use more subjects so that more optimal results can be found. Keywords: Lessons Study; learning; genetics; learning achievements; collaborative

Aim/Purpose: Students tend to learn best when an array of learning styles is used by instructors. The purpose of this paper is to add, to introduce, and to apply the concepts of kinesthetic learning and learning structures to university and STEM education. Background: The study applies the concept of kinesthetic learning and a learning structure called Think-Pair-Share to an experiential exercise about Moore’s Law in an introductory MIS classroom. The paper details the exercise and each of its components. Methodology: Students in two classes were asked to complete a short survey about their conceptual understanding of the course material before and after the experiential exercise. Contribution: The paper details the benefits of kinesthetic learning and learning structures and discusses how to apply these concepts through an experiential exercise used in an introductory MIS course. Findings: Results indicate that the kinesthetic learning activity had a positive impact on student learning outcomes. Recommendations for Practitioners: University educators can use this example to structure several other learning activities that apply kinesthetic learning principles. Recommendation for Researchers: Researchers can use this paper to study more about how to incorporate kinesthetic learning into education, and about teaching technology concepts to undergraduate students through kinesthetic learning. Impact on Society: The results of this study may be extremely beneficial for the university and STEM community and overall academic business community. Future Research: Researchers should consider longitudinal studies and other ways to incorporate kinesthetic learning activities into education.

General chemistry is a subject that being studied in almost every science course. The subject is closely related to the environment, so it will be very easy to learn when involve examples in everyday life. The Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach is an approach that links the learning materials with the real-world environment. This research was conducted by using a CTL approach in a general chemistry subject which is one of the compulsory subjects in Biology Education Program of Tarbiyah Faculty UIN Ar-Raniry. The aim of this study was to determine the increase of student learning activities after using the CTL approach to general chemistry lecturing activities. The design of this study used action classroom research. This study was conducted to the first semester students. The student amount was 31 students. The instrument used was an observation sheet of learning activity. The results was obtained that the activities of the student during the learning process in the first cycle reached 70% and increased to 90% in cycle II. This proves that the application of CTL approach can increase the learning student’s activity of Biology Education Studies in general chemistry courses.

Lesson study has been carried out on V semester students in microbiology courses in the Biology Education and Teaching and Education Faculty Study Program, University of Papua, in the odd semester of the 2017/2018 academic year. The lesson activity of this study aims to improve the process and quality of biology learning. The activities carried out were the activities of the lesson team of biological studies consisting of model lecturers and observers. Lesson Study activities are carried out as many as four open classes, each open class consists of four stages of activity, namely: plan, implementation, observation and reflection or see. Each stage of producing planning (Chapter Design, Lesson Design, RPS and assessment instruments). The learning process is carried out through the application of the Two Stay Two Stray type (TSTS) cooperative learning model. Data obtained through observations by observers. The results obtained in the open class activities show that: (1) increasing student activity, creativity and independence, (2) students' understanding of concepts that are considered difficult to improve, and (3) the quality of microbiology learning increases (4) Learning cooperative type TSTS through lesson study activities (LS) can enhance collaboration and discussion between members of the lesson study team in planning and implementing learning, as well as reflection on learning activities (5) Can improve lecturer professionalism because initially lecturer-centered learning turns into learning centered on college student
