Exploration is important because it has the potential to increase creativity in the use of natural materials that are able to maintain the existence of written batik without reducing the essence of written batik itself. The method used is a literature study. This study aims to describe natural materials that can be used as color barriers, determine the results and quality of batik motifs produced from natural color barriers, and determine the process and results of batik coloring on natural color barriers. The natural ingredients explored are cassava peel and canna starch. The batik motifs produced by the two barriers depend on the drying time, the thickness of the paste application and the applicator used. In the use of natural cassava peel ingredients, the color barrier can block the color well when using a triangular plastic applicator because the quality obtained is good, namely the lines are firm and clear. Meanwhile, when using natural canna starch, the color barrier can block the color well when using the vinegar bottle applicator because the results of the imitation batik motifs produced are neat, even, and firm. The natural ingredients for cassava peel are dylon and wantex dyes, while the canna starch is used for napthol dyes.

The management activity of research report writing requires sufficient knowledge in its preparation. A researcher must learn about the management of understanding scientific concepts, as well as management of research reports that are based on scientific truth. In this study, 1 (one) method was used, namely a literature study of 10 (ten) to support the understanding of scientific concepts according to experts. The concept is a general idea that represents perceived understanding on the basis of reason and logic by someone who then forms a meaning deductively or inductively. Whereas knowledge is what is known or the results of work know. Then scientific truth is related to the quality of knowledge, where every knowledge possessed is viewed from the type of knowledge that is built. Thus scientific truth is an important point in scientific reporting, as the basic foundation of accurate management of report writing and must be displayed in every corner of the report. It is hoped that this research can assist researchers in compiling research reports. Keywords: Management, Science, Scientific Truth, Research Reports.

Animal feed knife is a tool that serves to cut and chop animal feed consisting of grass as the main ingredient with additives such as bran, herbs, centrate, cassava, tofu pulp and others. Therefore, as a cutting tool must have the properties of friction resistance, impact resistance, and have good sharpness, so that the material chosen is Ni-Hard 1. The use of centrifugal casting method was chosen because it has the advantage of being able to make castings with relatively thin thickness this is due to the influence of the centrifugal force on the distribution of metal liquids throughout the cavity in the mold. Case study in this study is the use of centrifugal casting methods as an alternative to gravity casting methods to overcome defects of misruns. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of speed on the formation of castings products. The method that was carried out began with a literature study on centrifugal casting, and continued by determining the material, the temperature of the cast is in the range 1250ºC - 1300ºC, and the type of mold. The next step is to do work drawings, pattern making, mold making, casting processes, fettling processes, and analysis. With variations in speed of 200 rpm, 300 rpm and 400 rpm, it can be seen the optimal speed for making this product. The results of this study obtained optimal speed at a speed of 300 rpm to make good quality of animal feed knife products.

It has been demonstrated previously in the literature that utilization of PEF or a combination of a pulsed electric field (PEF) and ultrasounds (US) can facilitate dehydration processes and improve the quality of dried products even better than the application of thermal methods such as blanching. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of red bell pepper subjected to freeze-drying preceded by blanching or PEF or US treatment applied in a single and combined mode. Furthermore, the freeze-drying was preceded by shock freezing or vacuum freezing performed inside the freeze-dryer as a result of pressure drop during the first stage of freeze-drying. All of the analyzed technological variants enhanced the drying kinetics when compared to the intact material. Freeze-dried bell pepper subjected to non-thermal pretreatment exhibited higher vitamin C, total phenolic and carotenoids content than blanched material despite the fact that blanching reduced drying time the most compared to all other analyzed methods.

In this study, the impacts of two different pear cultivars, “Conference” and “Alexander Lucas”, on the kinetics and the final quality of samples dried by convection (CD) and microwave-convection (MCD) methods, were investigated. The quality of dried material was evaluated by the analysis of water activity, porosity, color, acoustic emission (AE) and mechanical and sensory properties. The required drying time to obtain 0.2 kg H2O/kg dry solid (d.s.) was longer for “Conference” than “Alexander Lucas” and was 20 min by CD and 5 min by MCD. The pear cultivar, in conjunction with the drying method (CD or MCD), affected the number of AE events and the work of breaking. The CD pear of the “Conference” cultivar was characterized by higher force, higher breaking work and stronger AE relative to the CD pear of the “Alexander Lucas” cultivar. There were no differences in taste or overall quality, but the hardness was higher for the CD “Conference” pear. A principal component analysis showed that panelists preferred dried fruit with good taste and overall quality but lower hardness. A positive correlation was found between the number of acoustic events and sensory hardness; thus, an acoustic method can be useful for effectively evaluating the texture of dried pears. These results show that the dried pear slices that generated fewer AE events upon breaking were perceived as better by the panelists.

Mechanical drying has frequently caused injury in corn seed. Changes in seed moisture, temperature, and quality were determined for inbred lines A632, B73 and Mo17 to define the relationship between these variables. Ears harvested at ca. 48 and 38% seed moisture could be dried at 50 °C for 4–15 h and 18–24 h, respectively, before germination started to decline linearly with prolonged 50 °C drying. Drying time at 50 °C, seed moisture, or embryo moisture after 50 °C drying could be used equally well for prediction of seed quality. Seedling dry weights often declined even when seed was dried for only a few hours at 50 °C. Temperature measurements within seeds indicated that evaporation cooled the seed no more than 5 °C. Drying susceptibility of seed parents varied greatly between years.Key words: Moisture, temperature changes, seed corn, drying

PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SAGO STARCH OBTAINED FROM FLUIDIZED BED DRYING USING SOLAR AND BIOMASS POWERED CROSS FLOW FLUIDIZED BED DRYER. The research aim is to study the comparative quality of sago starch drying results using cross flow fluidized bed dryer powered by solar and biomass in conventional drying, particularly the chemical composition and physicochemical characteristics. This research was conducted through a drying phase of wet sago starch using a cross flow fluidized bed dryer, and drying in conventional as well as dried sago starch quality testing results are drying. The results of this study indicate that dry sago starch which has been drained by means of cross flow fluidized bed dryer has a chemical composition that does not vary much with starch which is dried by conventional drying, so that the dried sago starch produced by the dryer is very good. On the other hand the use of dryers is the more correct because the physicochemical properties of sago starch using a low drying temperature and drying time is short.

Quality is one of the key success factors to achieve competitive advantage. When companies succeeded to improve quality of the service or product given, they will have the possibility to increase their market share and eventually their profit. One of the methods to increase quality is by doing six sigma analysis that focuses on the cause of the problem. The research is done in PT Cemara Agung, one of textile industries in Indonesia. Research method used is descriptive study. Literature study, observations, and interviews has been done in order to search root cause and generate recommendations. The analysis shows that almost fifty percent of the main cause in defect products is happened to the weaving department, which then cause the profit of the company decreased as an impact of the spoilage produced. By doing six sigma analysis and finding recommendations to resolve the problems, the company is expected to be able to reduce the quality cost, increase the quality and eventually increase the profit of the company.
