This article presents data on the impacts and changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on librarianship within the context of rural school libraries. We understand the work in libraries as a special activity that is only valued if contextualized. Thus, we question the role of the library and the librarian practices in the current pandemic scenario with the purpose of updating the debate on librarianship in rural schools. To this end, we conducted a bibliographic and exploratory field research mediated by the application of a questionnaire. We conclude by highlighting the precarious situation that prevents actions and activities to encourage reading and the dissemination of pedagogical resources to support school and school-community libraries.

The critical role of research in overall progress generates a pressing need to study the relationship between a city and knowledge-based innovation. A number of socio-economic and political processes influence the development of contemporary cities by defining the beneficial balance between financial ambitions, environmental awareness and sustainability. Consequently, the role of innovation and knowledge has been emphasized as one of the crucial generators of urban success. The most recent initiatives originating from universities and research establishments stimulate the emergence of new spatial formations and digital upgrading, thus setting up a fertile environment for intellectual exchange and the production and diffusion of knowledge and innovations. This article questions the historical, social and technological implications of research on urban space. The focus is set on the case of Belgrade and the newly proposed project of a university campus with its evaluation based on the latest concepts related to the economy of knowledge. This new type of knowledge-based innovation node is intended to serve as a driver of Belgrade?s inclusion into the global network of innovative cities. However, this initiative is still in the domain of paper-architecture due to financial limitations and a change in development priorities by the new government.

Abstract:LUSCOFUSCO, A PLACE TO FEEL.Luscofusco is a children’s daycare that offers an alternative to the traditional school for children 2 to 6 years old. We began our adventure in Oza, a small village in the province of A Coruña, restoring an old rural school which had been closed years ago. Inspired by philosophies as Montessori, Pestalozzi, Malaguzzi our goal is to recover the essence of the old rural schools, and at the same time energize the area in which we are located. We are a new concept of preschool in which our role is to guide children as they develope cognitive, motor, emotional, affective, inter and intrapersonal skills through play, coexistence and experience. All this, in a carefully prepared family atmosphere situated in a natural environment. We base our work on respect for kids, their interests and their motivation to turn them into the protagonists of their learning. We assume a role of mediators in this process, use a non-directive approach and offer individual attention. Palabras clave: Escuela Libre, escuela alternativa, pedagogía no directiva, entorno natural

This chapter examines the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in improving rural schools in China. China has experienced rapid development in rural education during recent decades. However, a large gap between rural education and urban education remains. Because ICT plays an essential role in rural education, China has prioritized the construction of ICT facilities. A lack of communication among colleagues constitutes an obstacle for teachers who attempt to integrate ICT into teaching practice. Therefore, China's national government initiated an “Internet Plus” strategy to build connections between rural schools and the broader education system through ICT. This chapter concludes that Internet Plus Rural Education paves a potential way for rural teachers to participate in teacher communities and to develop their teaching practices.

The comparative analysis of Russian and foreign theory and practice aims at identifying productive practices of modern rural schools, professional training and development of rural teachers. Since the sociocultural, deficiency and ambivalent approaches are determined as basic for this study, their verification allows for a constructive balance in the development of rural schools and teachers as well as for positive changes in the sociocultural educational situation in rural settlements. The comparative analysis is based on theoretical and empirical studies from different countries of the world. The authors draw on the data and analytics of large-scale international studies, results of foreign and Russian researches, international documents of educational management, statistics and media information. They also rely on their long-term experience of teaching and organizing continuous professional training for rural teachers. A rural school teacher's activity is considered as professional, determined by the specificity of the sociocultural educational situation with its differentiation, inconsistency and instability, as well by the characteristics of modern rural schools, including their social mission, multifunctionality, openness, instability/variability of its position, the latter brought about by the increasing paucity of rural school students. These factors directly determine the specificity of teaching in rural areas: educators have to teach multiple subjects and fulfill multiple functions; they are involved in local community life and often have to changes the type of their professional activity. The chain of interrelated problems in the professional activity of rural teachers is considered within the framework of their integral, professionally-oriented development. The productive Russian and foreign practices of mixed-age teaching in rural schools are underpinned by the idea of relations in mixed-age child and child-adult communities as a system-forming factor in the modern information society. The authors determine and give grounds for the following priorities in modernization of the rural school and rural teacher training: formation and development of rural schools as sociocultural educational centers of settlements; establishment of federal and regional network educational centers to promote and support mixed-age child-adult educational communities that would function as a tool for solving vital problems of local communities and rural development; mixed-age education as a productive educational technology in small rural school; personalized training for rural teachers. The study can be useful for teachers, school administrators, researchers of lifelong education for rural teachers, and pedagogical students.

The processes taking place in the educational sphere of modern Belarus require both theoretical rethinking and practical research. The current demographic situation in the country and the socio-economic conditions for the development of society have actualized the issues of the functioning of the rural school. Today in rural schools in Belarus there are five times less schoolchildren than in urban schools. Rural schoolchildren find themselves in a situation of very limited choice of forms of the system of out-of-school and additional education. Rural schools have limited access to various types of resources due to their territorial and, correspondingly, informational isolation. The difficulties of attending cultural events not only at the republican, but also at the regional level are explained today not so much by territorial remoteness as by the material support of a rural family. These circumstances lead the professional practice of a rural school teacher to a situation of uncertainty. It is aggravated by the problems of insufficient material and technical equipment of rural schools, low wages (especially for young teachers), low motivation to receive education from schoolchildren and their parents. Consulting support of the professional practice of a teacher allows you to look at education in rural school from the inside through the eyes of subjects immersed in educational processes. The article outlines the main theoretical and methodological ideas for organizing the process of consulting support for the professional practice of a teacher, the features of its implementation in rural school, reveals the mechanisms and conditions for the implementation of this activity. The publication highlights the results of feedback from participants in consulting events – teachers of rural schools in the Baranovichi and Mozyr regions of Belarus. In the process of consulting support, rural teachers actively discussed the pressing problems of work in rural schools in Belarus, both at the regional level and throughout the country as a whole. The article presents the results of surveys on the optimization of rural schools by enlarging them, on the existing paper-reporting and other kind of bureaucracy, on the material, technical, scientific-methodological and staffing of the educational process in rural school. The analysis of these results will make it possible to concretize the directions for reforming education in the country.

The dynamic balance of cardiomyocytes and neurons is essential to maintain the normal physiological functions of heart and brain. If excessive cells die in tissues, serious Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases would occur, namely, hypertension, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke. The regulation of cell death plays a role in promoting or alleviating Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent new type of cell death that has been proved to occur in a variety of diseases. In our review, we focus on the critical role of ferroptosis and its regulatory mechanisms involved in Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases, and discuss the important function of ferroptosis-related inhibitors in order to propose potential implications for the prevention and treatment of Cardio-Cerebrovascular Diseases.
