The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Pericampylus glaucus extract on plasma glucose concentration and lipid profile in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The ethanolic extract were administered orally at three different doses (400, 600 and 800 mg/kg) and glibenclamide (20 mg/kg p.o.) for 21 days after 72 hours of streptozotocin injection. During the short- and long-term studies, the extract was found to possess significant (p<0.01, p<0.001) anti-diabetic activity in normal and diabetic rats compared with untreated normal and untreated diabetic group. It also caused reduction in the level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL etc. and improvement in the HDL level compared with untreated diabetic rats. Reduction in the fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, triglyceride, urea, LDL, creatinine levels and improvement in the HDL by P. glaucus indicates that plant has anti-diabetic activity along with anti hyperlipidemic efficacy and provides a scientific rationale for the use.

The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of aqueous extract of Thymus serpyllum on lipid profile and some liver enzymes level in the diabetic rabbit. Rabbits were made diabetic with a single intravenous injection of alloxan and were divided into groups. Group 1 and 2 served as normal and diabetic control, respectively. Group 3 and 4 were given standard drugs glibenclamide and acarbose respectively while Group 5 was treated with 500 mg/kg of extract for 30 days. Blood samples were taken on day 0 and 30. The extract significantly reduced the level of serum cholesterol, triglyceride, LDLs, VLDLs, alkaline phosphatase and transaminases without affecting the HDLs level. Total cholesterol/HDL-cholesterol ratio was significantly reduced as compared to diabetic control. It is conceivable that T. serpyllum possesses antihyperlipidemic and hepatoprotective effects in diabetic rabbit.

This study was conducted on broiler chickens to investigate the effect of Marticaria chamomilla flowers extract on some physiological properties. One day age Fawbro birds (Average weight 55g) were used in this study, they fed ad libtum until 7weeks age. (60 chickes) were divided into three groups (each group has 20 birds ).1-treatment one: administrated orally the aqueous extract of Marticaria chamomilla flowers at concentration 50mg /kg body weight .2-treatment two: administrated orally the aqueous extract of Marticaria chamomilla flowers at concentration 100mg /kg body weight3-control group: administrated distilled water .At the end of experiment blood samples were taken from brachial vein for ten birds of each group for hematological and bio chemical examination ,the following parameters are used:- serum glucose concentration, serum cholesterol concentration ,hemoglobin concentration ,packed cell volume ,body weight and food intake. Results showed significant decrease (p<0.05) in glucose concentration in treatments groups compared with control, and significant decrease (p<0.05) in cholesterol concentration in treatments groups compared with the control. While there was no significant effect on hemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, body weight and food intake in treatments groups compared with the control
