The article considers the phenomena of unified and plural rationality, and hence the possibility or its absence to unify experience, culture, politics, economics, etc. To illustrate the problem, it is suggested to consider the differences between the modern and postmodern eras. It is attempted to deduce the ontological basis of cultural differences and the dynamics of knowledge development in general. Author of the article reflects upon contemporary challenges related to the instability of the state of knowledge, and propose possible solutions of modern social and philosophical problems on the basis of phenomenology.

Al Qur'an which is called idiom sālihu likulli zamān wa al-makān and Al Qur'an as hudan li al-nās should be able to be a solution for all aspects of life. On the other hand, the term monotheism is often only interpreted as a theological function that seems so sacred and final. Meanwhile, in the modern context, especially in a state, Al Qur'an is required to answer problems related to issues of the state, especially in Indonesia. By using Farid Esack's Hermeneutic theory, the researcher wants to interpret the verse of Tauhid QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 20-21 and trying to apply it to the life of the state, especially in Indonesia to realize progressive Muslims. Based on the analysis carried out, the results show that the interpretation and application of QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 20-21 in the perspective of Farid Esack's hermeneutic theory. If departing from the moral ideal of QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 20-21 are orders to worship and be grateful for Allah's blessings. So looking at the context in a state, especially in Indonesia, there are three manifestations of the interpretation and application of QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 20-21. First, tauhid means carrying out all the commands of Allah and staying away from all the prohibitions of Allah. second, in the context of Indonesian citizenship, monotheism should accept and respect all racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural differences in Indonesia. Third, tauhid in the context of Indonesian citizenship should take part in public spaces to promote and maintain the unity and welfare of the unitary state of Indonesia. Keywords: Tawheed, Hermeneutics, Progressive Muslims.

Worldly knowledge system can be termed as an integration of Knowledge economy, information technology, library system as a knowledge facilitator, and e-databases in the epoch of modern globalization. Users across the globe perceived it as a commodity and are paying the price of e-databases. Users and knowledge facilitation centers, libraries and information centers are spending substantial part of their proposed expenditure in order to purchase information products in terms of e-databases globally. Global information industry has touched $381billion in 2007. In India, except National Informatics Centre (NIC), rests of the e-database players are private and majority of them are MNCs and monopolist competitive market’s leaders. The State of Delhi has become a reputed e-database market in India and its players are globally aligned and locally well versed with governments and most of them are cropping government resources for their promotion of marketing. Whether they are really a promoter of knowledge development oriented activities or profit maximization agencies only?  Is increasing subscription rate of e-databases becoming a threatening issue for users and libraries and information centers and their establishments? Is nature of market and marketing of e-databases pricing models benefiting the consumers/users/Libraries and Information Professionals (LIPs)? How will the increasing subscription of databases be precipitated in term of development of knowledge economy a, users, libraries and information centers in the State of Delhi in near future? How should users and LIPs react?  This paper is a humble effort to deal with these pertinent questions. Keywords: E-databases, Library Information Personals (LIPs), Pricing, Market Structure

This article analyses photo elicitation workshop encounters of Arab and Jewish students in an academic college in Israel. Focused on family albums, the workshop, facilitated by the author, examined family histories of migration shared by both peoples in ways insufficiently addressed in scholarly, educational and daily discourse. The encounters were informed by a critical pedagogy approach, with emphasis on recognizing cultural differences and silenced personal-political histories, and producing new knowledge through critical discussions. One central theme that emerged in the workshop was official and silenced knowledge on migration and uprooting. Distinct from the official knowledge provided by the state curriculum, the alternative knowledge elicited from the albums challenges the divisiveness of national narratives. It has the potential of developing critical and empowered awareness and identity and of promoting social change.

This secondary analysis based on a previous study by the author of 14,834 men and women in the state prison system in Georgia shows that cultural differences for youth exhibited in frequency of rule conformity by white and nonwhite inmates did not appear among the middle-aged inmates.

Abstract Innovative development is impossible without the support of scientific research capable of forming fundamentally new technological approaches. The process of knowledge development cannot be fully formalized, therefore, management decisions are made in conditions of uncertainty. The models developed on the basis of self-organization are the most effective for predicting the development of knowledge in the innovation system. On the basis of the developed recurrent neural network, the analysis of the influence of the state scientific and technical policy on the formation of the strategies of the actors of the national innovation systems of the BRICS countries is carried out. The determinants of the influence of the state scientific and technical policy on the development of knowledge in the innovation system are revealed.

This chapter offers some historical and conceptual orientation to readers of the Oxford Handbook of Entertainment Theory. Departing from a brief review of ancient roots and twentieth-century pioneer works, we elaborate on the state and challenges of contemporary entertainment theory and research. This includes the need to develop a more explicit understanding of interrelationships among similar terms and concepts (e.g., “presence” and “transportation”), the need to reflect more explicitly on epistemological foundations of entertainment theories (e.g., neobehaviorism), and the need to reach back to past, even historical reasoning in communication that may be just as informative as the consideration of recent theoretical innovations from neighboring fields such as social psychology. Finally, we offer some reflections on programmatic perspectives for future entertainment theory, which should try to harmonize views from the social sciences and critical thinking, span cultural differences in entertainment processes, and keep track of the rapid technological progress of entertainment media.

The author describes how the anti-alcohol campaign of Mikhail Gorbachev not only was a failure, but also accelerated the breakdown of the Soviet empire, by undermining the legitimacy of the state apparatus. The reasons for this were many. The state lost most of its tax income leading to an ever-accelerating inflation; black market and illicit distillation expanded leading to criminalization and increased supply of low quality alcohol; and a well-organized hoarding economy developed, as the shortage of commodities increased, beginning with sugar and yeast. The anti-alcohol campaign therefore acted as an important element in the disintegration process, made possible by perestroika and glasnost. Another main factor was the growing strength of ethnicity, which became an explosive political force underlining the significant cultural differences between the wine consumers in the southern regions and the northern vodka-drinking Russians. National liberation movements in the Soviet Republics such as Moldavia and Georgia were fostered by the fact that the grapevine, their national pride, was defiled. Gorbachev's campaign was therefore doubly counterproductive: the system broke down – but King Alcohol remained the true ruler over the Russians.

The Indonesian Constitution offers many interesting insights to a German constitutional scholar. The most striking feature is the balance between the unitarian state and the natural diversity of Indonesia. In Germany, the state architecture reflects regional diversity in its federal framework, whereas Indonesia combines the unitarian state with various decentralising elements. This balance between unitarianism and regional diversity is probably the most conspicuous feature of the Indonesian Constitution and appears to be a suitable compromise between the conflicting aims of stabilising the state and the nation on the one hand and accommodating the geographic, demographic and cultural differences within the country on the other. Another striking feature is the presidential system, which is quite the opposite of the parliamentary system of the German Constitution. Other points that, from the perspective of German constitutional law, invite comparison are the constitutional provisions about the legal system,Indonesia’s constitutional monotheism, which is quite the opposite of the German idea of the state being strictly neutral in religious affairs, and human rights.
