eamwork is becoming increasingly important to wide range of operations. It applies to all levels of the company. It is just as important for top executives as it is to middle management, supervisors and shop floor workers. Poor teamwork at any level or between levels can seriously damage organizational effectiveness. The focus of this paper was therefore to examine whether leadership practices consist of team leader behavior, conflict resolution style and openness in communication significantly influenced the team member’s satisfaction in hotel industry. Result indicates that team leader behavior and the conflict resolution style significantly influenced team member satisfaction. It was surprising that openness in communication did not affect significantly to the team members’ satisfaction.

International Data Corporation (CIO, 1997) surveyed 283 top executives across three vertical industries: finance, manufacturing, and retail/wholesale. They found “a strong correlation between the effectiveness of the IT department (IS organization) and the relationship between the CIO and the CEO”. “We suspect that this relationship, if it is close, permits the CIO to develop the IT department (IS organization) into a service that delivers competitive advantage for the company, thus enhancing the careers of every IT professional in the organization.” In other words, “a certain amount of mutual esteem will help IT (IS) function as a business partner”.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of gender and ethnicity of CEO and audit committee members (directors) on audit fees and audit delay in the US firms. Design/methodology/approach – Audit-related corporate governance literature has extensively examined the determinants of audit fees and audit delay by focusing on board characteristics, specifically board independence, diligence and expertise. The authors provide empirical evidence that gender and ethnicity diversity in corporate leadership and boardrooms influence a firm’s audit fees and audit delay. Findings – This study finds that firms with female and ethnic minority CEOs pay significantly higher audit fees than those with male Caucasian CEOs. The authors also find that firms with a higher percentage of ethnic minority directors on their audit committee pay significantly higher audit fees. Further, the authors find that firms with female CEOs have shorter audit delay than firms with male CEOs and firms with a higher percentage of female and ethnic minority directors on their audit committee are associated with shorter audit delay. Results indicate that female CEOs and both female and ethnic minority directors are sensitive to the market pressure to avoid audit delay. Research limitations/implications – The results suggest that gender and ethnic diversity could improve audit quality and the firms’ overall financial reporting quality. Practical implications – This study provides insights to regulators and policy-makers interested in increasing diversity within a firm’s board and top executives. Recently, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the European Commission have been pressing publicly traded companies to improve diversity among their directors. This study provides evidence and perspective on how diversity can enhance financial reporting quality measured by audit fees and audit delay. Originality/value – Previous studies have not given much attention on the impact of racial ethnicity in addition to gender characteristics of top executives and audit committee directors on audit fees and audit delay.

The aim of this paper is to investigate if top executives’ turnover affects the performance of a company and if it differently impacts the performances of a healthy and a restructured company. In order to investigate the impact of the renewal of both members of the board of directors and CEO impacts on company profitability, we performed a quantitative analysis based on a sample of 144 Italian companies using a logit model. The findings show that management changes influence the performance of a company. However, the results show a different impact for healthy and restructured companies. The renewal of the board of directors negatively affects the performances of a healthy company while influences positively the probability of a future increase in performances for restructured companies, suggesting useful implications for scholars and practitioners. This analysis confirms that the renewal of top executives can affect the probability of an increase of company performances, especially for distressed firms, contributing to existing literature which is still limited and focused only on few countries.

This paper explores the relevance of marketing communications for buyer-seller negotiations. Although a broad body of knowledge has been developed around marketing communications concept evolution, as well its relevance for all types of organizations, for awareness, knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of consumers, or generally, for managing relationships, a little attention has been devoted to revealing MC contribution to some other business related fields, such as negotiation process. The empirical research presented in the paper confirms the scope and intensity of the impact of MC tools (advertising, sales promotion, personal selling, direct marketing, public relations and publicity, communication aspects of products/services and prices, word of mouth and digital marketing) on preparation for negotiation process: the definition of a zone of possible agreement, the best alternative to negotiated agreement, and the determination of negotiation strategies. The survey was conducted with online based questionnaire with 108 top executives of companies from different industries, in different countries.

Basing on a series of in-depth interviews with top executives of Russian innovation companies, the paper analyzes qualitative effects generated by the support from the state development institutions. Non-financial impacts, in particular, changes in firms’ innovation behavior, turned out to be quite significant. At the same time, tightening of formal control of the development institutions increases the risks and costs faced by the supported companies. We have identified two models of firms’ innovation behavior associated with different demand for public support instruments. These models are conditioned not so much to firms’ characteristics, but rather by the values of top managers and their views on appropriate forms of state intervention in innovation processes.

Competing in global marketplace has pressured managers respond to shifting market trends by increasing product quality, business process reengineering, and decreasing time to market for new products. Within emerging economies top executives have realized that adoption of appropriate information technologies such a decision support systems (DSS) and group decision support systems (GDSS) have led to changes in the existing organizational structure and communication mechanisms. This paper explores the advantages and constraints of DSS and GDSS in formulating manufacturing strategies in emergent economies. We argued that to fit appropriate information technology to organizational design top executive would benefit from strategic information systems planning process. This process enables top executives to invest in appropriate information system that fits their structural arrangements and organizational culture. Moreover, we explored the impact of DSS and GDSS on executive decision-making capabilities. We also explored the methodology for implementation of appropriate information systems in manufacturing firms in emergent economies.

Leaders play a critical role in the success or failure of their organizations. Leaders can be effective in implementing changes, building their organization's capabilities, and improving its performance, or the opposite, they could be ineffective. In this systematic review, the authors aim to summarize the findings of previous quantitative research, published between the period from 2000 to 2018, to identify the effect of various leadership styles on organizational Knowledge management (KM) capabilities and activities. The authors reviewed 50 articles found in well-known databases included Emerald, ScienceDirect, Taylor and Francis, Ebsco, Google Scholar, and others, concerning the impact of leadership when implementing KM in business organizations. The review revealed that transformational, transactional, knowledge-oriented leadership, top executives, and strategic leadership have evidence of their constant and positive effect on the KM process. The authors encourage organizations to use a combination of those styles to maximize the effect of leadership on KM. The authors also recommend conducting further studies on the effect of the remaining leadership styles, such as the ethical and servant leadership styles on KM and the other specific KM activities.

This study examines the linkage between a heightened managerial discretion due to an environmental change on executive compensation. Specifically, we consider the impact of deregulation on three facets of executive pay: structure, level and the degree of disparity among the top executives. The results indicate mixed support for previous findings on the effects of an environmental shift on executive incentive system
