Given the high incidence of keratoconjunctivitis in Iran (approximately 3.6–53.9%) and low efficiency of clinical diagnostic measures, application of laboratory tests for detection of different keratoconjunctivitis/conjunctivitis causes and determination of their accurate prevalence is essential. In this research, conjunctival samples were collected from 100 patients with keratoconjunctivitis signs referred to an eye hospital of Iran. After DNA extraction, PCR was carried out for detection of Chlamydia psittaci and Chlamydia felis. PCR positive products were further subjected for DNA sequencing. In this study, one sample was Chlamydia psittaci positive and none was positive for Chlamydia felis. There wasn’t a statistically significant relationship between working in the field of veterinary medicine or keeping a pet and Chlamydia psittaci prevalence (P>0.05). This study showed a low rate of chlamydial keratoconjunctivitis and therefore further studies for detection of other causes are necessary.

Turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and its distribution and volume remain—with the exception of flow velocity—the most important cause of the low efficiency of fish passes. Thus, it is important to define the reasons and mechanisms that explain the distribution of characteristic features of this parameter, as presented in the paper. This publication presents the spatial distribution of TKE for two models of bolt-type fishways. The paper shows details related to characteristic features of TKE distribution and intensity scale in a bolt fishway. The presented research results for the bolt fishway were obtained from laboratory tests using a physical model. Measurements were taken of three temporary components of flow velocity in the indicated measurement sections. It was established that differences in the TKE volume and distribution are a consequence of the state of the stream that leaves the slot’s section or the orifice’s section. This state is defined by the determination of the stream’s potential. A low potential results in high TKE values in the area of the main flow. Thus, considering various structural features of fish passes, one can assert that the potential remains a characteristic feature attributable to a particular type of facility.

Malaria is one of the health problems in Indonesia, especially West Sumatra. Determination of the description of Malaria disease in an area is needed to determine the spread and severity of the disease. This study aims to determine the frequency distribution according to age, sex and place of residence, description of the types of Plasmodium causes of Malaria and hematological features in Malaria patients at Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018. This type of research is a descriptive observational study with an approach or design cross section (cross sectional). The frequency distribution of Malaria sufferers in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 according to the highest age was in the age group 21-30 years as many as 28 cases (36.8%), the highest sex among men was 46 (60.5%) and the highest number of residences was found in Koto Tangah sub-district there were 31 cases (40.8%). The type of Plasmodium found in Malaria cases in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 was P. vivax (73 cases (96.05%)) and P. falciparum (3 cases (3.95%)). The results of laboratory tests on Hb, hematocrit, platelet and leukocyte levels in Malaria positive patients in Siti Rahmah Padang Hospital in 2018 were in the normal range.

This work entailed the development, optimization, validation, and application of a novel analytical approach, using the bar adsorptive microextraction technique (BAμE), for the determination of the six most common tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs; amitriptyline, mianserin, trimipramine, imipramine, mirtazapine and dosulepin) in urine matrices. To achieve this goal, we employed, for the first time, new generation microextraction devices coated with convenient sorbent phases, polymers and novel activated carbons prepared from biomaterial waste, in combination with large-volume-injection gas chromatography-mass spectrometry operating in selected-ion monitoring mode (LVI-GC-MS(SIM)). Preliminary assays on sorbent coatings, showed that the polymeric phases present a much more effective performance, as the tested biosorbents exhibited low efficiency for application in microextraction techniques. By using BAμE coated with C18 polymer, under optimized experimental conditions, the detection limits achieved for the six TCAs ranged from 0.2 to 1.6 μg L−1 and, weighted linear regressions resulted in remarkable linearity (r2 > 0.9960) between 10.0 and 1000.0 μg L−1. The developed analytical methodology (BAμE(C18)/LVI-GC-MS(SIM)) provided suitable matrix effects (90.2–112.9%, RSD ≤ 13.9%), high recovery yields (92.3–111.5%, RSD ≤ 12.3%) and a remarkable overall process efficiency (ranging from 84.9% to 124.3%, RSD ≤ 13.9%). The developed and validated methodology was successfully applied for screening the six TCAs in real urine matrices. The proposed analytical methodology proved to be an eco-user-friendly approach to monitor trace levels of TCAs in complex urine matrices and an outstanding analytical alternative in comparison with other microextraction-based techniques.

Forty children with a diagnosis of Visceral Toxocariasis were evaluated prospectively from February 1982 to June 1989. Diagnosis was established by clinical, laboratorial and serological (ELISA - ES Toxocara canis antigen) evaluations. A great clinical polymorphism was found in our patients, ranging from unspecific or absent manifestations to an exhuberant symptomatology. The laboratorial findings were: leukocytosis, eosinophilia and elevation of serum gammaglobulin and isohemagglutinin levels. No significant relationship between clinical findings and laboratorial parameters was found. Serology (ELISA) was a method of great diagnostic support but did not show a correlation with clinical and laboratorial findings in this study. There was a significant relationship between pulmonary manifestations and the presence of signs and/or symptoms, when the patients were sent to us. Our findings, especially the high incidence of pulmonary manifestations, suggest that Visceral Toxocariasis has to be included in the differential diagnostic of children with pulmonary manifestations, characteristic epidemiological data and associated eosinophilia.

This study aims to determine the contribution of semantic mastery to the ability of the Archives, Library and Information Science (IIPK) students in comprehending the reading texts. The result of this study indicates that the semantic mastery has a positive and significant relationship (with a coefficient of determination of 0.524). This means that the reading comprehension of IIPK students of UNP is 25.4% determined by mastery of semantics, and the remaining 74.6% is determined by other factors. Keywords: semantic mastery, reading comprehension, contribution
