ABSTRACTThe selection of Preliminary Investigation Areas (PIAs) to be considered in the siting procedure for a Japanese High Level Radioactive Waste (HLW) repository, will require Site-specific Evaluation Factors (SSEF) to be considered. Evaluation of these factors requires a methodology for taking into account various kinds of uncertainties in varied types of literature data. The study described here evaluated the application of Evidential Support Logic (ESL) for this purpose. The approach involves constructing hierarchical process models. Uncertainties are then propagated from the lowest processes, corresponding to data or information, through intermediate processes, to some top level process of interest, such as “assessing the existence of an active fault”. To evaluate the usefulness of ESL a hypothetical site was assessed. The results demonstrate the value of the approach to support decision-making in the selection of PIAs.

The high level radioactive waste was decided to the geological disposal in Japan. In addition, operating body and capital management body were decided. However, the place in the repository site has not been decided yet. The selection process in the waste repository is already advanced in Finland and Sweden. In England, some municipalities have expressed interest in HLW. The word used in publicity materials is analyzed, systems in each country are compared, and some good idea for Japanese HLW repository site selection process is studied.

In the process of selecting Indonesian Workers (TKI) based on quality at PT. Adila Prezkifarindo Duta is classified as still manual, where there is not yet a system for selecting quality migrant workers so it requires a long time for its assessment and the selection process is less effective. To support decision making in the selection of qualified Indonesian Workers (TKI) to make it easier by using a decision support system. One method used in the selection of qualified Indonesian Workers is the Profile Matching method. The profile matching method is a decision-making mechanism by assuming that there is an ideal level of predictor variables that must be met by applicants, rather than the minimum level that must be met or passed. In the profile matching process a process will be compared between individual competencies into standard competencies so that different competencies can be identified (also called Gap). The smaller the gap produced, the greater the weight value. In matching this profile, the selected TKI candidates are Indonesian Workers who are closest to the ideal profile of a qualified TKI.

Private companies, government agencies and educational institutions are still experiencing difficulties in selecting employees / employees who are in accordance with their needs and experts in their respective fields. With the increasing number of workers who have different abilities, recruiting new employees requires selection of prospective employees at Ekasakti University, because if this is done manually, it will make it difficult for the staff to receive and also be prone to mistakes in decision making. The decision making system method (Decisions Support System) can be used to help the selection of new employee recipients with the AHP Method. Selection of new employee admissions by the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method can help solve the case of selecting employee recruitment. The model of applying dynamic logic applied in the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) has the advantage that the selection process provides very flexible results

The unmanned systems have been seeing a significant boom in the last ten years in different areas together with technological developments. One of the unmanned systems is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). UAVs are used for reconnaissance and observation in the military areas and play critical role in attack and destroy missions. These vehicles have been winning more features together with developing technology in todays world. In addition, they have been varying with different features. A systematic and efficient approach for the selection of the UAV is necessary to choose a best alternative for the critical tasks under consideration. The multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches that are analytic processes are well suited to deal intricacy in selection of alternative vehicles. This study also proposes an integrated methodology based on the analytic hierarch process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to evaluate UAV alternatives for selection process. Firstly, AHP, a MCDM method, is used to determine the weights of each critical factor. Subsequently, it is utilized with the TOPSIS approach to rank the vehicle alternatives in the decision problem. Result of the study shows that UAV-1 was selected as the most suitable vehicle. In results, it is seen that the weights of the evaluation criteria found by using AHP affect the decision-making process. Finally, the validation and sensitivity analysis of the solution are made and discussed.

Requirement engineering is the first phase of software engineering. In requirement engineering, the first phase is requirement elicitation (RE), which is the most critical and error-prone activity. In this phase, the requirements are extracted from various sources; after extraction, they are analyzed and documented for a specific purpose of software development. In RE, process requirements from stakeholders are gathered, upon which the entire software product failure and success are dependent. In order to accomplish the goal of requirement elicitation, various techniques are used. However, the selection of these techniques is a very challenging task, as one technique may suit a situation but may not be suited for other situations. Besides this, project attributes such as documentation culture of organization, degree of relationship among stakeholders, and familiarity to domain also have a great impact on the process of technique selection. The reason is that there is no empirical value of the techniques that provide help in techniques selection to analyze the basis software project attributes. This study proposed the analytic network process, which is one of the multicriteria decision making processes for the elicitation technique selection process with respect to criterion attributes of project. The motivation toward the use of the ANP approach for the selection of requirement selection technique is that there are dependencies existing among attributes of the project elements. So, the ANP approach is capable of dealing with such situations where dependencies and complexity occur. Results of the proposed study demonstrate that the technique helps in complex situations where decision making is difficult based on the alternatives.

Selection of qualified faculty is a key success factor for any university. The aim of this paper is to support adequately the decision making process for those connected with the faculty selection process. The steps of fuzzy TOPSIS technique are considered, incorporating a new concept for the ranking of the alternative candidates. The candidates are judged on the following criterias such as strategy formulation/strategic decision making capability, change management /change adaptability, communication/interpersonal skill, leadership, risk/crisis management, knowledge of software/software tools , professional experience , and educational background. Five candidates with different skills are taken for the judgment of their fate. They were asked to answer a set of questionnaires made by the experts and after that they were evaluated by the experts board. The real life application on the selection of any executive member/post shows the practical utility of this method.

In the year 2000, the Japanese geological disposal program for high-level radioactive waste (HLW) moved from the phase of generic research and development into the phase of implementation. Following legislation entitled the “Specified Radioactive Waste Final Disposal Act” (hereafter “the Act”), the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan (NUMO) was established as the implementing organization in October 2000. The assigned activities of NUMO include repository site selection, developing relevant license applications and construction, operation and closure of the repository. To initiate the first stage, NUMO has chosen an “open solicitation” approach for finding candidate sites in the belief that the support of local communities is essential to the success of this highly public, long-term project extending over more than a century. Based on this concept, NUMO announced the start of open solication for volunteer municipalities for selection of Preliminary Investigation Areas to the public on December 19, 2002. This paper describes NUMO’s open solicitation of volunteer municipalities for a potential disposal site.

The selection of students who excel academically is a measure of the quality of education in an educational institution. In the implementation of education, student achievement becomes a measure of the success of education at the institution. Achievement is the result of hard work by following the rules given by a certain person or institution with certain criteria and conditions to determine if someone is eligible to be chosen as an award recipient. This research uses the Mamdani Fuzzy method or Fuzzy inference system and Sugeno Fuzzy, to design this decision-making system is to design the decision results from the rules compiled using Matlab software for testing. The South Aceh Polytechnic holds outstanding student elections every year, the selection of students with achievements that are carried out every year only focuses on the GPA value in academic achievement without looking at the determining factors which are more precise. In the research that will be conducted the selection must meet the eligibility criteria as a student who gets an award or as an outstanding student at the South Aceh Polytechnic involving variables in the form of Cumulative Achievement Index, Final Project value, Extracurricular, and Attendance. Research is expected to be a tool in the selection process for candidate participants who compete in the selection of outstanding students at the South Aceh Polytechnic so that relevant departments in universities can determine the eligibility of prospective students as award recipients as students with the best achievement scores by considering the appropriate determining factors. The expected output using the Mamdani and Sugeno fuzzy method can become an intellectual property system so that this system can be selected as a guideline by the South Aceh Polytechnic academic for determining outstanding students. The results of the research that have been obtained show that the level of truth is 86.82% for the Mamdani method while the implementation of Sugeno Fuzzy logic is obtained a level of truth of 71.88%

AbstractAccurate decision-making requires estimating the uncertainty of perceptual events. Temporal attention is known to enhance the selection of a stimulus at a relevant time, but how does this selective process affect a decision’s confidence? Here, we adapted an “Attentional blink” paradigm to investigate the effect of temporal attention on confidence judgments. In a RSVP stream of letters, two targets were cued to induce two successive attentional episodes. We found that the confidence ratings given to an item systematically followed the probability with which this item was reported. This coupling made confidence oblivious to selection delays usually observed when the two targets were separated by long intervals (249ms to 747ms). In particular, during this period, confidence was higher for more delayed item selection. One exception to this relationship between confidence and temporal selection was found when the second target appeared soon after (83ms) the first attentional episode. Here, a strong under-confidence bias was observed. Importantly, however, this early confidence bias did not impact confidence sensitivity in discriminating correct and erroneous responses. These results suggest that temporal attention and confidence can operate at different time scales, a difference which seems to reflect high-level heuristic biases rather than segregated processes for decision and confidence evidence.

The central role of R&D centers in the advancement of technology within industrial enterprises is undeniable and clearly affects their strategies, their competitiveness and their business sustainability. R&D centers assume responsibility for technology recognition, collection, acquisition, development and transition. Among their activities, the efficient choice of emerging technologies in the Technology Management Process is becoming a real challenge. In such heterogeneous scenarios, Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) models are commonly proposed as an appropriate decision-making approach. Multiple research works address the selection of particular technologies in industrial applications, but very few references can be found related to research institutions, and R&D centers in particular. Therefore, a decision-making model is provided in this study following the MIVES multi criteria method for the assessment of one or more technologies. The model is then applied to two case studies related to the selection process of new technologies at a Spanish R&D Center specialized in manufacturing.
