Botia fish (clown loach) growth is relatively slow, taking 4-5 months to reach marketable size (2 inch) and 3 years to achieve initial gonad maturation in female and 1 year in male fish. Environmental degradation and overfishing are factors triggering the production of newly potential broodstock. This study aimed to observe the growth response of potential broodstock through rearing technique with and without shelter. Fish were kept inside the aquaria sized 80x40x30 cm with 20 cm water height on the recirculation system. Fish used for shelter treatment were: Total length ± 7.7 cm, height ± 2.09 cm, and weight ± 7.33 g; for no shelter treatment were: Total length ± 6.7 cm, height ± 1.88 cm, and weight ± 4.59 g. Fish were stocked 10 fish / aquarium and fed 3 times / day by at satiation method. Parameters observed were total length, height and weight improvement also water quality. The results showed that growth and feed efficiency had better value when reared with shelter than without shelter.

Sandfish (Holothurai scabra) and seaweed Gracilaria sp are marine commodities that have economic value and have good prospects in the market. These two commodities, if rearing together, will certainly provide added value to farmers. This research aims to determine the potential of sea cucumber polyculture, (H. scabra) and Gracilaria sp. which is maintained in culture. This research was conducted in April - May 2018 in the coastal of Rat village, Southeast Maluku Regency. Sea cucumbers are weighed and stocked on Pen-culture (measuring 4 x 3 meters) with a density of 40 individuals / Pen-culture. Gracilaria seeds are taken from young thallus which are tied into one clump and ditagging. After that, Gracilaria was weighed and spread in Pen-culture of 20 clump / Pen-culture. Observation of growth and survival of sandfish and Gracilaria sp done once a week. At the same time, predator control is carried out on pen-culture and water quality measurements. The results showed that sea cucumbers experienced absolute growth and survival rates of 18.20 g and 92.5% respectively. Gracilaria sp which is maintained does not experience growth, while the percentage of survival of Gracilaria sp is 20%. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that Polyculture of sandfish, H. scaba and seaweed, Gracilria sp is not effective if Gracilria sp is stocked on the basis of Pen-culture.

The surface water system of Amsterdam is very complicated. Of two characteristic types of water systems the influences on water and sediment quality are investigated. The importance of the sewer output to the total loads is different for both water systems. In a polder the load from the sewers is much more important than in the canal basin. Measures to reduce the emission from the sewers are much more effective in a polder. The effect of these measures on sediment quality is more than the effect on water quality. Some differences between a combined sewer system and a separate sewer system can be found in sediment quality.

The concept of water security implies concern about potentially harmful states of coupled human and natural water systems. Those harmful states may be associated with water scarcity (for humans and/or the environment), floods or harmful water quality. The theories and practices of risk analysis and risk management have been developed and elaborated to deal with the uncertain occurrence of harmful events. Yet despite their widespread application in public policy, theories and practices of risk management have well-known limitations, particularly in the context of severe uncertainties and contested values. Here, we seek to explore the boundaries of applicability of risk-based principles as a means of formalizing discussion of water security. Not only do risk concepts have normative appeal, but they also provide an explicit means of addressing the variability that is intrinsic to hydrological, ecological and socio-economic systems. We illustrate the nature of these interconnections with a simulation study, which demonstrates how water resources planning could take more explicit account of epistemic uncertainties, tolerability of risk and the trade-offs in risk among different actors.

<p>Most fish farmers in Malawi culture unimproved fish strains whose growth is slow and mature while still small. Four strains of <em>Oreochromis</em>, namely; selectively-bred/improved <em>O. shiranus</em> (F8), two reciprocal F1 <em>Oreochromis</em> hybrids, and <em>O. karongae</em> as a control (mean weight 2.5 ± 0.7 g) were stocked at a density of 5fish/m2 in 9m2 hapas replicated three times, and cultured for 90 days at Bunda Fish Farm. Fish were fed twice a day with feed formulated using maize bran and soybean containing 30% crude protein throughout the experimental period. The final mean weights were significantly different (p&lt;0.05) across the treatments whereby; hybrid <em>O. shiranus</em> (male) X <em>O. karongae</em> (female) was 12.09g, hybrid <em>O. shiranus</em> (female) X <em>O. karongae</em> (male) was 9.72g, improved <em>O. shiranus</em> (F8) registered 9.23g, and <em>O. karongae</em> was the least with 9.00g. Apparent food conversion ratio was also statistically different (p&lt;0.05) across the treatments whereby; <em>O. karongae</em> was 3.63, hybrid <em>O. shiranus</em> (female) X <em>O. karongae</em> (male) was 3.25, improved <em>O. shiranus</em> (F8) was 3.16 and hybrid <em>O. shiranus</em> (male) X <em>O. karongae</em> (female) was lowest with 2.26. There were no significant differences on the water quality parameters across the treatments throughout the experimental period and were within the required ranges for growth and survival of tilapias fish species. The results suggest that <em>Oreochromis</em> hybrids may be suitable candidates for aquaculture in terms of production as they performed better than the improved <em>O. shiranus</em> and the control <em>O. karongae</em>.</p>
