OBJECTIVE: to know the main elements of social representations about elderly people and old age among adolescents at a public high school. METHOD: 172 adolescents between 14 and 19 years of age participated. The free evocation of words technique was applied through the terms elderly and old age. RESULTS: The main elements of the representations significantly designed for elderly people were: respect and disrespect, 78; experience, 49; care, 32; wisdom, 23; fragility, 19. For old age: disease, 51; retirement, 27; experience, 27; wisdom, 19; wrinkles, 17. The social representations of adolescents are strongly marked by physical, psychological and social aspects, with positive and negative aspects about old age. CONCLUSION: Participatory health education activities are needed to make adolescents critically reflect on and the condition of elderly people in contemporary society.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the social representations of healthy eating and to analyze the relationships established with health. Method: an exploratory and descriptive study, with qualitative approach that applied the Social Representations Theory. A semistructured interview was conducted with 31 adolescent students, aged 10 to 13 years, from a municipal school in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from September to November 2013. The Alceste software was used to analyze the two classes of greater statistical significance. Results: adolescents choose foods with higher fat content, with faster preparation time and more sugar. They care about health, but they prioritize pleasure and taste. They establish a relationship between diet, body weight and health, understanding that fat people are more prone to diseases. Conclusion: healthy eating is conceptualized by what adolescents consider good or bad for their health, but this evaluation is not directly related to their eating practices. The contradictions between knowledge and practice are evidenced in order to guide propositional interventions with this population group.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the social representations of the elderly on aging and experiences related to health involved in this process. Methodology: the qualitative methodology was applied; data collection was carried out through participant observation, semi-structured interviews and field journal. The interviews were recorded, and a signed a free and clear consent form was obtained, with seven elderly volunteers in Franca – São Paulo, Brazil. The study was approved by Uni-FACEF´s Research Ethics Committee (035/2009). Results: from the analyses of the interviews, three social representations were found among which health constituted the center of discussion: (1) Life silencing: a stigmatized old age where health is determined by declining physical and mental capacities; (2) New identity: an active old age where health is what provides freedom and independence; (3) A natural process: old age is an expected stage and health is spiritual well-being. Conclusions: these results show that social representations of old age are associated to the current redefinition of health; to a positive concept of health; and to the individual’s responsibility for health, that is associated with the aging reprivatization. RESUMO Objetivo: compreender as representações sociais do idoso acerca do envelhecer e das vivências relativas à saúde implicadas neste processo. Metodologia: utilizou-se a metodologia qualitativa, a coleta de dados foi realizada por meio da observação participante, entrevistas semi-estruturadas, e diário de campo. Após a assinatura dos termos de consentimento livre e esclarecido, as entrevistas foram gravadas com sete idosos voluntários na cidade de Franca – SP. Para preservar a identidade dos participantes, todos os nomes utilizados neste artigo são fictícios. O projeto de pesquisa foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Centro Universitário de Franca (protocolo 035/2009). Resultados: a partir das análises das entrevistas, emergiram três RS acerca da velhice, nas quais a saúde constituiu-se em eixo de discussão: (1) A vida silenciando: uma velhice estigmatizada, em que a saúde é marcada por declínios nas capacidades físicas e mentais; (2) A Nova identidade: uma velhice ativa em que a saúde é aquilo que dá liberdade e independência; (3) Um Processo natural: a velhice é uma etapa esperada, e a saúde é o bem-estar espiritual. Conclusões: tais resultados demonstram que as RS da velhice estão associadas à atual ressignificação da saúde; a um conceito positivo de saúde; e à responsabilização individual pela saúde, a qual se associa à reprivatização do envelhecimento. RESUMEN Objetivo: comprender las representaciones sociales de las personas mayores sobre el envejecimiento y las experiencias relacionadas con la salud implicada en este proceso. Metodología: se utilizó una metodología cualitativa, la recolección de datos fue realizada por medio de la observación participante, entrevistas semi-estructuradas y diario de campo. Las entrevistas fueron grabadas, firmados los términos del consentimiento libre e informado, con siete voluntarios de la ciudad de Franca – São Paulo, Brasil. El estudio fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación de la Uni-FACEF. Resultados: a partir del análisis de las entrevistas, reveló tres representaciones sociales sobre la vejez, donde la salud se constituyó en un eje de discusión: (1) La vida silenciando: una vejez estigmatizada, donde la salud se caracteriza por la disminución de la capacidad física y mental, (2) La nueva identidad: una vejez activa, donde la salud es lo que concede libertad e independencia, (3) Un proceso natural: el envejecimiento es un paso esperado y la salud es el bienestar espiritual.  Conclusiones: Estos resultados demuestran que las representaciones sociales de la edad están asociadas con la actual resignificación de la salud; con un concepto positivo de la salud, que se asocia con la reprivatización del envejecimiento. En el presente trabajo analizamos la función social de la Educación Física y el deporte respecto a las personas mayores. Se trata de una relación mediatizada por las representaciones sociales que los agentes implicados poseen sobre la vejez, el cuerpo, la salud y el deporte, no exentas de estereotipos y prejuicios que condicionan sus prácticas sociales. Constituye un problema social y a la vez un reto para las instituciones erradicar las prácticas sociales de exclusión a que dan lugar. Para ello resultan imprescindibles dos pasos. En primer lugar denunciar los contenidos de las representaciones sociales sobre la vejez y las actividades físico-deportivas que favorecen la exclusión social, especialmente desde el Sistema Educativo y los medios de comunicación. En segundo lugar promover los medios materiales y condiciones estructurales necesarias para el cambio social.Palabra clave: Vejez, deporte, educación física, representación social, función social.Abstract: In the present work we analyzed the social function of the Physical Education and the sport with respect to the elderly people. One is a relation hyped by the social representations that the implied agents own on the old age, the body, the health and the sport, nonfree of stereotypes and prejudices that condition their social practices. It constitutes a social problem and simultaneously a challenge for institutions to eradicate the social practices of exclusion to that they give rise. For it two steps are essential. In the first place to denounce the contents of the social representations on the sport old age and activities physical that favor the social exclusion, especially from the Educative System and mass media. Secondly to promote the average materials and necessary structural conditions for the social change.Key words: Old age, sport, physical education, social representation, social function.

The relevance of the study is due to the role that social ideas play in the regulation of behavior and the formation of a system of relations among subjects of the educational environment in conditions of special attention to the safety of the educational environment of the school, provoked by destructive precedents among young people (school shooting, near-football, bullying, anarchism, neo-Nazism, etc.). J. Abric’s “Central system, peripheral system” concept was the theoretical framework of this study of ZhK. Aprica. The research hypothesis was based on the idea that violations of the psychological safety of the educational environment are caused by the problem of correlating nuclear and peripheral social representations about safety among different participants in educational settings. We use the prototypical analysis of P. Verges to study social representations of safety. The study sample was 137 students of the 7th grade (72 male, 65 female), 416 students of the 8th grade (201 male, 215 female), 490 students of the 9th grade (201 male, 289 female), 154 students of the 10th grade (84 male, 70 female), 117 students of the 11th grade (50 male, 67 female) and 20 teachers (1 male, 19 female). The results of the study demonstrate that 1) according to social representations about safety, students and teachers have diametrically opposed views on the role of the teacher in ensuring a safe educational environment; 2) students, who highly assess the safety of the educational environment, have active external and internal protection social representations about safety; students who rate the safety of the educational environment, have social representations in the context of passive protection; 3) the analysis of three age categories shows a tendency of the social representations about safety from the norm (students in grades 7-8) through external protection (high school students) to the internal individual resources (high school students and teachers). The new research data obtained on the peculiarities of representations about the safety of students and teachers can become the basis for understanding the growing tension in the field of the safety of the educational environment and the frequent incidents of its violation.

Objetivo: apreender as representações sociais de jovens estudantes sobre a prevenção em HIV/Aids. Métodos: trata-se de pesquisa exploratória, qualitativa, guiada pela Teoria das Representações Sociais, em três escolas de Ensino Médio da rede pública, com 70 estudantes, de ambos os sexos e idades entre 18 e 29 anos. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se instrumento baseado na técnica de associação livre de palavras, com termo indutor “prevenção em HIV/Aids. As evocações foram lematizadas, codificadas e processadas pelo software EVOC, versão 2005. Resultados: os dados apontaram um número maior de jovens do sexo feminino (57,14%), negros (84,28%), heterossexuais (92,85%) e que já tinham iniciado a atividade sexual (95,71%). O núcleo central apresentou os termos “camisinha, doença, prevenção e sexo” como estruturantes das representações sociais dos jovens acerca da prevenção em HIV/Aids. Conclusão: a ideia de prevenção situa-se no uso do preservativo, enquanto tecnologia disponível, frente a doenças transmitidas pela prática sexual desprotegida. Logo, espera-se que as práticas sexuais entre jovens aconteçam de forma segura, prazerosa e responsável.

AbstractThe development of social gerontology has led to the emergence of its own terminology and conceptual armoury. ‘Ageism’ has been a key concept in articulating the mission of gerontology and was deliberately intended to act as an equivalent to the concepts of racism and sexism. As a term, it has established itself as a lodestone for thinking about the de-valued and residualised social status of older people in contemporary society. Given this background, ageism has often been used to describe an overarching ideology that operates in society to the detriment of older people and which in large part explains their economic, social and cultural marginality. This paper critiques this approach and suggests an alternative based upon the idea of the social imaginary of the fourth age. It argues that not only is the idea of ageism too totalising and contradictory but that it fails to address key aspects of the corporeality of old age. Adopting the idea of a social imaginary offers a more nuanced theoretical approach to the tensions that are present in later life without reducing them to a single external cause or explanation. In so doing, this leaves the term free to serve, in a purely descriptive manner, as a marker of prejudice.

The social representations that high school students in the "eastern" region of Mexico City construct of civic culture, political culture, and power relations in daily coexistence, are limited and restricted to legal citizenship, because the principles and values ​​of democracy have not been founded on the basis of a democratic political culture, to build full citizenship from childhood, generating spaces for reflection and listening back and forth, but above all, living a democratic life that enhances power -do, over power-over others.   Las representaciones sociales que los estudiantes de bachillerato de la región "oriente" de la Ciudad de México construyen sobre la cultura cívica, la cultura política y las relaciones de poder en la convivencia cotidiana, son limitadas y restringidas a la ciudadanía legal, porque no se han fundamentado los principios y valores de la democracia a partir de una cultura política democrática, para construir una ciudadanía plena desde la infancia, generando espacios de reflexión y escucha de ida y vuelta, pero sobre todo, viviendo una vida democrática que potencie el poder-hacer, sobre el poder-sobre los demás.

A ESPERANÇA INDÍGENA ATRAVÉS DE POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS BRASILEIRAS INDIGENOUS HOPE THROUGH BRAZILIAN PUBLIC POLICIES LA ESPERANZA INDÍGENA POR MEDIO DE POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS BRASILEÑAS RESUMO Estima-se que os povos indígenas no Brasil contavam com uma população em torno de 2 a 5 milhões de habitantes na época do descobrimento. Atualmente há cerca de um milhão. Há o desânimo e a falta de perspectivas nesses povos muitos dos quais vivem em regiões afastadas nas matas O objetivo do artigo é desvelar as representações sociais associadas às perspectivas desses povos e a sua possibilidade de melhoria. Realiza-se uma pesquisa na qual se verifica as representações sociais por meio de entrevista, no ano de 2017, em graduandos de um curso de Licenciatura Indígena. Verificou-se nos entrevistados, a presença do senso comum que aponta para a necessidade da educação dos povos indígenas. Observou-se a esperança para melhoria das condições desses povos que vem através dos cursos de Licenciatura Indígena que têm ajudado a preservar aspectos histórico-sociais, culturais e possibilidades futuras uma vez que os licenciados voltam para suas aldeias para trabalhar a educação básica nos jovens. ABSTRACT It is estimated that indigenous peoples in Brazil had a population of about 2 to 5 million inhabitants at the time of discovery. There are now about one million. There is discouragement and lack of perspective on these peoples, many of whom live in remote regions of the forest. The purpose of this article is to unveil the social representations associated with the perspectives of these peoples and their possibility of improvement. A research is carried out in which the social representations are verified by means of interviews, in the year of 2017, in undergraduates of an Indigenous Licentiate course. It is verified among the interviewees, the common sense that points to the need of education of indigenous peoples. It was observed the hope for the improvement of the conditions of these peoples that come through the courses of Indigenous teachers formation that have helped to preserve historical-social aspects, cultural and future possibilities once graduates return to their villages to work on basic education of young people. : The present essay intends to make known the social representations of women in old age in the fashion world, with the purpose of understanding this social phenomenon little investigated and of great social relevance. For this study we used a qualitative approach, with sampling of multiple cases, in the Porto Metropolitan Area and of interviewees in Lisbon - Portugal, with the participation of 14 women: elderly women over 65 (consumers) and fashion professionals (fashion design, shopkeeper, dressmaker, social events company) of notorious social recognition. The interviews were conducted based on a semi-structured script, in order to capture the social representations of elderly women and the contribution of fashion professionals in the face of the phenomenon studied. The work includes the following approaches: socio-historical aspects about fashion; the space of women in old age in the fashion world; theoretical assumptions about aging and fashion; methodology used; and, finally, the narratives of women in old age in the Portuguese context. Although elderly women do not understand the phenomenon of fashion in aging, they point out their social representations about fashion in this age group.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the representational content about HIV/AIDS among seropositive elderly people. Method: a qualitative study carried out from April to May 2017, in the city of Recife/PE, with 48 seropositive elderly people, through a semi-structured interview. The Social Representations Theory was used as theoretical framework and the method of lexical analysis through IRAMUTEQ software. Results: it was observed that the social representation of HIV is structured around the proximity of death and that it is a disease of restricted groups, leading to feelings of sadness. On the other hand, it is evident a transformation of the representation linked to the reified knowledge, leading to the process of naturalization of the disease. Final considerations: it is concluded that the elderly living with HIV, when they undergo a process of reframing about the disease, become more flexible to deal with their condition of seropositivity.
