This paper summarizes and analyses the landing data collected at Santos, Brazil, during the 12 months period, July 1958-June 1959. These data are given in terms of weight landed of the more important fish and shrimp and also in terms of value. The distribution of the landings of each of the more important species is shown both according to the type of fishing gear used and fishing area. The fishing area is given in the form of statistical rectangles of 60 miles square. The landings are broken down to obtain a figure for the landing per hour of fishing for each species, for each gear and for each rectangle fished. This figure of landing per unit fishing time is used to compare one area with another, one gear with another, and one month with another for each of the important species. In this way, comparisons of the available density of a species by time, area and fishing gear are made.

The utilization of fish resources by fishermen in the waters of Bone Bay uses different fishing gear and patterns as well as different utilization and management policies. This can affect the sustainability of existing fish resources, one of which is in the Bone Regency area. This study aims to analyze the technical aspects of purse seine and fishing gear used by fishermen in the waters of Bone Bay, especially in Bone Regency. Furthermore, the technical aspects of the vessel and fishing gear as a result of the calculation are compared with the provisions stipulated in the PERMEN-KP Number 71 of 2016 to determine the zone of the fishing area. This research was conducted in Panyula Village, which is the fishing base area of purse seine fishermen and the waters of Teluk Bone, starting from November 2016 to March 2017. This research uses a combination of survey methods and case studies. The type of data used consists of primary data and secondary data. Based on the technical aspects of purse seine vessels, ring trawl fishing gear and FAD fishing tools, purse seine units should be operated on Fishing Route II and Fishing Route III in accordance with Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 71 of 2016.

Polybius henslowii Leach, 1820, a Portunid crab distributed from the British Isles to Morocco and the Mediterranean Sea is caught in high densities by many types of fishing gear and frequently thrown back to the sea. Along the northern coast of Portugal, P. henslowii is an important species discarded in beam trawl fishery. There are no quantitative estimations of discards and very little is known about its biology, information that is needed to value this species. The present work was conducted from March 2007 to December 2010 in order to improve the current knowledge of the reproductive biology of P. henslowii. By-catches were registered aboard commercial vessels that volunteered to participate in the study. In that period P. henslowii represented 57.3% of the total catch and was present in all hauls analysed. The target species, Palaemon serratus (Pennant, 1777), represented 1.2% of the total catch, showing the low selectivity of the fishing gear and the need for suppression of this gear to catch this shrimp species. Differences in size between sexes were found, with males being larger and heavier than females. Mature females occurred mainly in autumn and the carapace width at which 50% of the females reach maturity was estimated to be 37.8 mm, which could be set as the minimum landing size of this potential exploitable resource. A macroscopic ovarian maturity stages classification was proposed, allowing a rapid field assessment of female sexual maturity. This study fills a gap in the knowledge of a very important species discarded in beam trawl fishery that may be basis of further work.

Terubok (Tenualosa macrura Bleeker, 1852) is an important fish commodity in Bengkalis, Riau Province. The terubok resosurce in Bengkalis is heavily degraded due to the high exploitation even fishing limitation was applied in term of species conservation. Conservation efforts through fishculture are constrained by the availability of live terobuk fish as both parent and adult fish. This paper present the results of fishing trial of double-net fishing gear for catching alive terubok fish. Fishing trial was conducted in 2015-2016 periods in Bengkalis strait waters and its adjascent. The results shown that the dominant fish catches of doublé net were Shorthead hairfin anchovy (Setipinna breviceps) and bombay duck (Harpodon sp). Double gill net catch rate for terubok were between 0,7 -2,6 fish/setting. Number of alive terubok fish was 27,1% of total terubok catches, length of first capture (Lc) value of terubok by using doublé net was 17.4 cm FL.

Abstract In recent years, about one-third of the cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) catches in Icelandic waters have been obtained with longline. Although longlining has been regarded as a conservation-oriented fishing method, a serious drawback of this fishing gear is the high catches of undersized fish. Our purpose was to locate areas where catches of undersized fish are high and consider if it may be feasible to close them permanently for longlining. Extensive length measurements used in the analysis were made by official inspectors on-board longliners during 2005–2013 in the main fishing area around Iceland. We found that the percentage of undersized cod (<55 cm total length) and haddock (<45 cm) in those samples decreased in relation to both depth and distance from shore. Our results suggest that permanent closures of large nearshore areas for longlining is a feasible option to reduce catch of undersized cod and haddock.

Purse serne is the main fishing gear of small pelagic fisheries and lhe most impoftant Eeat for flsheries resoufces exploitation in Java sea. since 1976, purse selre has spread out quickly and thc selners were able to extend their exploitation area outsicle the Java sea. ln 1994, it itldicated lhat fishing area has .eached the naxinium point. The purpose of this study is lo explain catch develapment of petagic fish in the Java sea based on catch data of purse sei}e that landed in Pekalongan fror', 2002-2007- Ihe rest//fs show that sca.rs (Decapterus sppJ species still provided the main target of the exploitation and reprcsents 52% of the total catclt. Thts condition was found similafly ilt 1985' 1992. The fishing trip of yesse/ decrease d significantly iti Navember 2005due ta tlte increase of fuel price. The day at sea increased up to 2 monlhs. Calch per unit of eflotl tllso decreasecl from 1,000.7 kg per day in 2OO4 becoming 4Og kg per day in 2OO7. This catch per unit ol effoft was significanUy stnaller than lhe resutts in 1992-1996 that reached 2,387 kg per day. From lhe seven fishing areas of waters around lhe Kangean archipelago provided the highest catch per unit af effott, of ahout 9 50 kg per day.

The success of fishing depends on sufficient knowledge of the overall behavior of the fish, which is the basis for the development of existing methods. Utilization of Fishery Potential Activities in Pangkep Regency waters still depends a lot on simple fish catching technology. One of the factors for the success of catching fish with a chart is light. Light is a tool to help collect fish to the fishing area. Toli-toli village, Tekkolabua sub-district, Pangkep district is geographically located between 04º79'07.71 "- 4º79'14.35" LS and 119º43'75.13 "- 119º44'02.01" East Longitude (Figure 4). The administrative area is included in the North Liukang Tupabbiring District, Pangkep Regency. The production of tembang fish (S. gibbosa) caught with fixed-line fishing gear occurred in 2012 as much as 927.70 tons and the lowest was in 2009 as many as 50.30 tons. The level of utilization (TP) and level of cultivation (TPu) of fixed-line fisheries in Pangkep waters according to the Schaefer model for 8 years has exceeded the allowable utilization rate (JTB), namely in 2011, 2012, 2013, and in 2008, 2009 , 2010, 2014 and 2017 are still in an underexploited condition. Based on the analysis of the sustainable potential of tembang fish using the Schaefer model, the allowable amount of tembang fish catch (JTB) is 80% of the MSY value, it is recommended that the number of fish catches allowed in Pangkep Regency is 409.36 tons with a maximum number of fishing effort units of 26 units / year.
