Sustainable development is a concept that is constantly evolving, being discussed at the global, national, and local levels, not only among individuals but also within organisations. However, the importance of this concept lies in its complexity. The article's main goal is to identify the approaches of selected Czech companies to promote the concept of sustainable development and evaluate the basic factors that impact competitiveness. The data were obtained based on quantitative research (questionnaire survey of data collection) in selected organisations (n = 179) and additional qualitative research in the form of individual interviews with representatives of agricultural enterprises (n = 8). Data were processed using chi-square tests and factor analysis to identify latent variables. Key approaches to promoting the concept of sustainable development include an emphasis on process approach, non-financial business performance, and sector stability. The basic factors for competitiveness are quality relationships with stakeholders and the implementation of an integrated management system.

Increasing environmental, social and economic problems, born by unceasing economic growth, have transformed our approach to the development concept. The 1980s saw the appearance of the sustainable development term and, during the 1990s, sustainability notion was implicitly framed as an integrated concept, frequently, termed as the ‘triple bottom line’ approach. Among several initiatives and efforts to balance our economic and societal pursuits with environmental challenges the, lately, introduced United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) refer to a remarkable evolution, which came to strengthen and establish sustainability conception as an integrated social, economic and environmental triptych. International shipping, as the major carrier of world trade and significant contributor to environmental degradation has, definitely, a vital role to play in facilitating the UN’s sustainability venture. Although there is a great amount of legislative instruments, codes and guidance to address sustainability in shipping, though, limited research has been devoted to identify how the tanker and dry bulk maritime sector has responded to such recent cohesive attitude to sustainable maritime development. Through a quantitative research approach this empirical study aimed to investigate maritime industry’s insights and attitudes in relation to the, newly, introduced triple bottom line approach to global sustainable development. Research data were collected via a questionnaire survey conducted to 50 tanker and/or dry bulk shipping companies. Pearson’s chi-square test of independence and Spearman’s correlation coefficient measures were utilized to test our three formulated hypotheses. Findings highlighted increasing awareness and adaptation of the maritime sector to the triple bottom line approach and, subsequent, sustainability absorption under the auspices of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) business model. Introduction of sustainable development in an integrated manner appears to have influenced the extent that statutory maritime regulations occupy to the formulation of marine safety management systems. To sum up, the integrated management system model turned out to be the most rated tactic to manage sustainability and, as such, a conceptual CSR framework was proposed to facilitate such an objective.

Abstract This article is the result of a conceptual design methodology for the development of a sustainable strategy of sustainable corporate social responsibility (SCSR) in the context of the HCS model 3E formed, as a co-author within the stated grants and dissertation. On the basis of the use of propositional logic, the SCSR procedure is proposed for incorporation into the corporate strategy of sustainable development and the integrated management system (IMS) of the industrial enterprise. The aim of this article is the proposal of the concept of development and implementation strategy of SCSR in the context of the HCS model 3E.

Recognising that implementing an agricultural enterprise impacts the state of the environment, its ecological stability, and the self- regulatory capabilities of ecosystems, the aim of this paper is to acquaint the professional and lay public about the attitudes of Slovakian agricultural enterprises towards environmental protection and sustainable development. The paper draws attention to present methods, techniques, and tools that enterprise management are applying for the purpose of meeting and overcoming environmental challenges. The data for this research were obtained from controlled interviews and a questionnaire survey conducted across more than 90 agricultural enterprises. Based on the data outcomes, research premises and formulated research hypotheses put forward are verified by using Friedman, Wilcoxon, Kruskal–Wallis, and Pearson chi-square tests. Discussion of the findings points out that although Slovakia is not yet one of the most polluting countries, promoting the application of environmental protection approaches for sustainable development is of the essence. The most important agriculturally related step, mitigating environmental degradation, is to promote changes in the moral values of agricultural enterprises and the society through enhanced environmental awareness and application practices.

The aim of the project was to optimize the company's inventory management and to suggest measures to minimize inventory and costs and maximize production in an effective and sustainable way. The effectiveness and sustainability of the logistics processes was focused on streamlining of inventory management through the actualization and improvement of existing system Kanban. In the context of sustainable development we propose the Kanban method because its principles are to eliminate waste and to ensure employees satisfied. In the centre of attention is the employee and the company should care for its satisfaction by means of enhancement of workplaces. The objective of this paper is to present characteristics of the Kanban method in theory and practice; it addresses actualization and improvement of the Kanban system and recommendations for future sustainable Kanban system. Organizational innovations of the integrated management system for hospitality and tourism companies is now an essential factor in the economic competitiveness of firms. The study of innovations in the service sector is still in its infancy, as the first studies did not appear until the late 1990s, and it is difficult to find a reliable theoretical basis for studying innovations in this sector. It becomes even harder to find when applied to firms working in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Tourism is currently one of the most promising industries in the world, and there is an urgent need for a better understanding of innovation in this sector. This study addresses a common question: how to explain innovations in the tourism sector. In seeking an answer to this question, the work has two objectives: 1) to discuss what innovation in services is, taking into account a study of innovation in hospitality and travel firms, along with a literature review; 2) to develop a case study for an international group on hospitality. The results support the hypotheses that the implementation of an Integrated Hotel Management System is an important innovation in the sense that it mainly promotes organizational innovation, while firms use sustainable development policies as strategies of innovation and differentiation from competition. At this time, tourism firms are to be managed in three ways: economic, social and environmental. The advantages defined by the hotel are: optimization of work processes, with an impact on productivity, sustainable development of the company, strengthening of its corporate image, creation of an organized structure, reduction of environmental impact and risks inherent in the activity, and increase in customer satisfaction. Finally, we present a number of conclusions that allow a better understanding of innovation in tourism and are aimed at expanding the theoretical debate as well as knowledge on this topic.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 is the United Nations development agenda for developing the economy, society, and environment. Moreover, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an emerging topic in the business world. The paper aims to pursue business students’ knowledge and perception of CSR activities linked to SDGs. The quantitative research design and descriptive research analysis were used. The data were collected from business learning students of three public universities in Bangladesh. CSR’s perception-related items positively correlated with Spearman’s Rho’s formula. The descriptive statistics revealed perceptions of CSR activities among respondents, which are directly and indirectly related to SDGs. In addition, the two-tailed Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test showed a variation of perceptions among groups. The findings of this study showed respondents had an acceptable knowledge level on CSR activities. There was a positive perception of respondents on economic and social dimensions of SDGs and mainly included in philanthropic and economic fields of CSR. Besides, their consciousness of the environmental dimension related to ethical and legal activities of CSR concepts was comparatively low. Finally, favourable knowledge and perception of business studying students in CSR activities are imperative for the successful implementation of SDGs.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are key contributors to the South African economy. In order to survive the current volatile economy, SME leaders need to implement leadership styles that are good for the survival of businesses in the manufacturing sector. The manufacturing sector in South Africa is growing at a slower pace in comparison to other sectors due to high labour and production costs. However, implementing a management system, such as, suitable leadership style creates the competitive advantage necessary for survival. The aim of the study was to identify the leadership styles used by SMEs in the manufacturing sector within Msunduzi Municipality and to determine the effectiveness of leadership styles on enterprise success and survival. Managers and other people in authority in organisations adopt certain leadership styles in order to communicate with their subordinates with regard to the execution of tasks. Adopting unsuitable leadership styles impacts negatively on business performance. The study was conducted at SMEs in the manufacturing sector within the Msunduzi Municipality in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal. This project emphasised the context of leaders of SMEs and the amount of influence or non-influence that leadership has on the survival of the business. A quantitative research design was adopted for the study; a structured closed-ended questionnaire based on the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) developed by Avolio, and Bass (2004) was used to collect data from the sample respondents. The target population comprised 686 SMEs. A random sampling technique was used and a sample size of 200 was drawn. A response rate of 68% was successfully achieved. The researcher used personal and email methods of data collection. The data collected from the sample respondents were captured on Microsoft Excel and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0. Several hypotheses were formulated and tested using the Pearson’s Chi-Square. Results revealed that applying a transformational leadership style in managing a business tends to increase the length of business survival. The opposite is true regarding the laissez-faire leadership style. The study further revealed that there is no evidence to suggest that a transactional leadership style has any effect on the survival length of SMEs in the manufacturing sector. Tentative recommendations suggest that leadership in SMEs should adopt a leadership style that is best for the survival of the business.

The article presents a strategy for renovation in the riverside area: improvement of water protection functions; rehabilitation of disturbed territories; the use of recreational and urban planning potential of such territories for creating a recreational framework on the waterfront; integration of eco-clusters into the structure of riverside territories and the development of an integrated management system for waterfront zones. As a result of the research, the necessity of rethink the attitude to urban planning within the riverside areas is formulated. Possibilities of sustainable development of riparian territories are determined. Stages of rehabilitation of communal warehousing and industrial territories for sustainable development and rehabilitation of urban areas are proposed. A formalized model of structural renovation of the exploring areas are being built, on the basis of which the identified principles of rehabilitation are being tested. The significance of the obtained results for urban science lies in the development of new approaches to the identification and formation of the structure of territories in the area of interaction with the water area. In the formulation of the basic principles underlying the structural and planning transformations of riparian areas.

<p>Although integrated management system (IMS) is known as an approach that can systematically and progressively integrate requirements of multiple stakeholders into the business processes, there is surprisingly a dearth of research on the adoption of this approach for the implementation and integration of stakeholder oriented concepts such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its related concepts, namely corporate sustainability (CS) or sustainable development (SD). This literature review is intended to support future research on this topic by providing a comprehensive overview of the past research on IMS frameworks that were developed for CSR and CS/SD as well as an analysis of twelve different IMS frameworks for the implementation, integration and management of these concepts. Although CSR and CS/SD are concepts that are often used synonymously, different approaches were adopted for the implementation of both concepts. Our analysis of the frameworks revealed that there is a tendency to adopt only specific international standards such as SA 8000, ISO 26000 or AA 1000 in the IMS approaches for the implementation of CSR. However, in the case of CS/SD, a combination of different management systems standards (MSSs) was incorporated into the IMS approaches for the implemention of the three dimensions of CS/SD.</p><p><br /><strong></strong></p>

The article substantiates the necessity to introduce modern mechanisms of interaction between the state and business, and between business and society as well in order to ensure sustainable economic growth in Ukraine. Today agricultural enterprises more and more often appear under pressure to solve social problems, realize the harm they do to the environment in their supply chains, and need to find ways to solve critical socio-economic and environmental challenges set in accordance with the goals of sustainable development. The evolution of schools of thought developing the concept of corporate social responsibility is studied, as well as those of the economic system and industrial transformations, which were actively developing in the twentieth century society. It has been found out that the impact of social responsibility on the welfare of the population was considered through the prism of three areas: business ethics, business and society, and social aspects of management. It is substantiated that corporate social responsibility is an umbrella term for various theories and practices, admitting that corporations are responsible for their impact on society and the environment, sometimes even beyond compliance with the law and the responsibility of individuals; companies are responsible for the behavior of others with whom they do business (for example, suppliers in the supply chain); companies should handle their relationships with society at large. The peculiarities of the approaches of large farms (collective farms) to the socio-economic development of rural areas in the planned economy in Soviet times are outlined. It has been found out that collective farms provided a wide range of support to rural communities and household plot owners, namely, by providing the following: full employment, rural social infrastructure, resources and services on homesteads. The peculiarities of European approaches to the development of social responsibility have been studied. The relationship between the social responsibility of agricultural enterprises and the revival of rural areas has been established.
