This thesis anticipates that inner city car parking buildings will become vacant as new car ownership models, such as car sharing, reduce the number of cars parked in cities. “Collaborative consumption” is changing the way that consumers own goods to a shared method where ownership is outsourced and goods become cheaper and more efficient to use. Car sharing is one such service where technology provides the basis for it to operate. High demand for housing in the Wellington CBD and a current housing stock shortfall provides an opportunity to adaptively re-use this vacant infrastructure for time share housing for transient workers, using the collaborative consumption model. This research proposes that the conversion of carparking buildings into shared housing schemes is valid, and explores this by investigating what the consequences of car sharing might be on the city and how people interact with this infrastructure at a street scale. The thesis then explores the architectural possibility of how housing can make use of existing infrastructure for a new use. It explores the pedestrian reclamation of the parking building while acknowledging the architectural heritage of the car parking typology.

In the middle of the 20th. century began the revaluation of the historical centers in Spain, especially those cities linked to the history of the country, seeking to develop their tourist potential as a key piece to improve the national economy and to offer a modern image abroad. In this work it has special function the Section of Ordination of Cities of National Artistic Interest, organism dependent of the Directorate General of Architecture, whose architects are in charge of designing projects of improvement and urban beautification, which were generally complemented by other interventions in monumental buildings by other institutions (such as the Directorate General of Fine Arts). Through this study we intend to analyze the interventions undertaken in the city of Jaén during the decades of the ' 60s and ' 70s, urban projects carried out following other examples in the province as the reforms undertaken in Úbeda and Baeza a decade before, and which sought to beautify so emblematic as the Square of St. Mary and the historic district of the Magdalene.

This study examines the available documents relating to the ancient mosque in Fallujah and considers what they can reveal about the important historical status of the building. In particular, these archival documents provide details about the planning and architectural construction of the mosque, and considers its claims to being one of the most important mosques in the Islamic world. Our limited understanding about the cultural importance of these documents and the architectural heritage they pertain to, coupled with the lack of formal organizations to protect and preserve them, puts them at risk, along with the buildings themselves many of which were damaged during the period of American occupation and are in need of restoration. The construction and design of the Fallujah mosque displays a number of similar principles to the main mosques in Bagdhad, Mosul and the largest mosque in Anna, including the external uncovered praying house and the internal praying house divided into two galleries. This paper provides details of the architectural details and discuses the ways in which the mosque’s construction and design were influenced by economic and social circumstances at the time of construction as well as the surrounding inheritance of ancient architecture. Keywords: Architecture, Endowments, Fallujah, Kathem Pasha, planning
