AbstractSince the first years of high school instruction in the Principality of Serbia, various Ministers of Education, principals and first gymnastics teachers had been thinking about physical education instruction. Better political, economic and cultural situation in Serbia together with the influences and ideas arriving from culturally developed European countries gave rise to several initiatives related to physical education instruction which were introduced into high school curricula.Persons with different qualification levels were engaged as physical education teachers (gymnastics teachers) and they remained at that position for a few years. The aim of the paper was to establish who the PE teachers were in High School of Užice since its establishment until the beginning of the First World War (1839-1914). Historical method was used in this paper. From 1839 until 1878 there were no organized physical education classes (physical exercise and gymnastics) because the first teachers in this school were not interested, or experienced about this type of instruction. By the written approval, the Minister of Education appointed in September 1878 the first gymnastics teacher Steva Trifunović, teacher of painting and calligraphy. In the next period the classes used to be realized by teachers of Serbian language, geometry and algebra, geography or officers and sometimes even all other homeroom teachers.Regardless the fact that those were all people who had acquired basic knowledge on physical exercising in military schools or in gymnastic societies, it was still not enough for professional work in PE education and its further promotion. The solution to the problem was initiated only in 1910. when Josef Jehlička came, at the invitation of the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Serbia, together with a group of Czeck Sokol leaders who had been sent to work in High School of Užice and improved quality of physical education classes in that school thanks to his professional competence. That led to the conditions for the PE classes in High School of Užice to become more significant in the system of general education of students.

Physical educators have critical roles to play in assisting communities and schools to increase physical activity for all citizens. They can assist classroom teachers in increasing physical activity in the academic school day and can serve as school wellness directors to increase the amount of physical activity students and school staff members receive during the day. Additionally, physical educators can implement innovative approaches to physical education curricula to enhance students' opportunities to be active and to learn concepts to assist them to be physically active now and for a lifetime. When implementing evidence-based approaches to physical education, teachers need to teach the curriculum coherently and with fidelity. New programs such as Science, PE, & Me! and the Science of Healthful Living provide opportunities for students to examine the effects of exercise on their bodies in a physically active, learning-oriented approach to physical education.

Abstract The article deals with studying the process of forming physical education teachers’ pedagogical mastery in the context of native and foreign scholars’ views. It has been indicated that the problem of pedagogical activity and pedagogical mastery efficiency has been raised in the works of a number of scholars who developed the principles and criteria of such activity. Thus, such native pedagogues as D. Dmytrenko, S. Krysyuk, I. Maslikova V. Putsov, A. Volovychenko studied the organization and evaluation of pedagogical and methodical work of teachers as well as the measuring of teaching management effectiveness. We have concluded that the forming of future physical education teachers’ pedagogical mastery should include the analysis of the education content (syllabi; general, psychological and pedagogical, special subjects; their comparison and volume, etc.) and the study of future physical education teachers’ personality. It is based on the use of general approaches, namely, historical, theoretical and descriptive, experimental, qualimetric (sociological) and is carried out within the diagnosis of a more general concept – a level of professional training (professional competence, the ability to obtain and generate new knowledge, to creatively solve pedagogical problems).

The conducted study was triggered by the problem of transition from a body-oriented approach to a personality-oriented approach inyoung people’sphysical education. The personality-oriented paradigm underlying training and retraining of teachers for students’ physical education was selected as the research methodology, and the model of improving such training of the teaching staff was suggested as a tool for implementing this paradigm. The presented model reflects the most important structural elements that we wished to test during the pedagogical experiment – improving future teachers’ motivation for their own physical activity and assessing the efficiency of a number of elective subjects. The modelis based on the assumed target of implementing activities by a health culture physical education teacher and reflects the actual system of knowledge concerning health and personal responsibility for teachers’ own health and that of students under their care. Also, the stages of building teachers’ professional competence and basic academic disciplines that will make the greatest contribution towards the achievement of the set goals are provided. The outlined stages represent a single process of physical and spiritual education to build future teachers’ knowledge and skills in the field of health culture. As a way to achieve these goals, it was proposed to introduce new elective disciplines for future teachers of physical education, namely: Pedagogical Anthropology, Personality-Oriented Physical Education and Creative Valeology. The conclusion is made that application of the personality-oriented approach to train future physical education teachers and the model of their training and retraining based on this approach would promote building their health culture education in the quickly changing world aimed at physical perfection of its individuals.

The article presents the results of testing the practice-oriented technology for the formation of professional competencies of future physical education teachers. Strengthening the practical orientation of modern education is considered by researchers as a key change in the educational space. The greatest difficulty in the process of forming professional competencies is the search for mechanisms for preparing students to implement the requirements of the standard of general education for meta-subject learning results in a specific subject area – physical culture. The aim of the research was to develop and experimentally substantiate a practice-oriented technology for the formation of professional competencies necessary for the implementation of the requirements of the general education standard for students with a major in physical culture. The study was conducted for 2 years, and involved 45 third-year students majoring in physical culture. The research methods were analysis and generalization, independent pedagogical experiment, testing, observation, survey methods, and methods of mathematical statistics. The developed technology is aimed at mastering students’ professional competencies, including the skills of forming students’ universal educational actions in physical education classes. The technology is based on including students in professional tests, bridging the gap between theoretical and practical training, learning and gaining experience on the basis of a step-by-step formation of competencies. The technology includes three modules: 1) goal-setting for individual educational tasks and various didactic cycles; 2) selection and programming of physical education methods; 3) implementation of practical activities. A system for monitoring and evaluating the level of professional competence formation using interactive methods and techniques was developed for each module. During the experiment, problem areas, typical difficulties and students’ mistakes were identified and classified. As a result of the research, a significant increase in the qualitative values of the level of professional competence formation of future physical education teachers has been established. At the same time, the most significant changes in the level of readiness to solve professional tasks have been noted in the third module, in which professional tests were implemented. The results of the research show that the implementation of the practice-oriented training technology (which involves students’ inclusion in professional tests, the use of activity and interactive methods, simulation and design, technology for solving situational problems and cases) has contributed to the formation of the main professional competencies in future physical education teachers.

The article analyzes the current state of formation of professional competence of future teachers of physical education in the field of eco-tourism confirmed the relevance and feasibility of the chosen research problem, its lack of theoretical development in pedagogical theory and practice. This is due to the fact that the specialization “Ecological and sports tourism” is absent in the curricula of future physical education teachers in higher education institutions of Ukraine. It is proved that professional training of future physical education teachers, able to use eco-tourism in professional activities at a high level, is one of the important conditions for increasing the interest of children and youth in physical culture, tourism and sports, providing necessary physical activity, development, preservation and strengthening their health. The following structural components of the formation of professional competence of future teachers of physical education in the field of ecological tourism have been identified and characterized: personal, cognitive, praxeological, reflexive. The practical significance of the obtained results is to provide educational and methodological support for the formation of professional competence of future teachers of physical education in ecological tourism, which covers: the author’s educational and methodological complexes of disciplines of specialization “Ecological and sports tourism” and their electronic content; training manual and guidelines; cross-cutting practical training programs; test tasks; program of work of the student tourist circle of Zaporizhzhia National University. The research materials were used in the process of modernization of professional training of future teachers of physical education in ecological tourism, in theoretical and experimental studies on the theory and methodology of vocational education, to improve the educational process in institutions of higher education. On the basis of secondary diagnostics of the level of professional competence of future teachers of physical education in ecological tourism, the results are obtained, which testify a significant positive dynamics according to all criteria. Analysis of the results has showed positive changes in the control group and the experimental group, but in the experimental group they have occurred more intensively. Thus, by the end of the experiment, the number of future teachers increased by 89% at the high level, by 2% at the sufficient level, and at the average and low levels their number decreased by 77% and 14%, respectively. The control groups also experienced positive changes, but at a high level they were not significant.Solving the objectives of the study made it possible to achieve its purpose – to substantiate scientifically the set of organizational and pedagogical conditions and conceptual model that ensure the effectiveness of the formation of professional competence of future teachers of physical education in eco-tourism.

This study consists of a secondary analysis of the qualitative data of interviews carried out with mentoring teachers (MT) in order to present their conceptions on the quality of appropriation of the professional competence of communication. In particularly on the components of the communication competence of students interns during the preparation course for professional life at the end of the initial training. To carry out this study, we developed a specific interview for this study. The content of the interview guide was the six components of communication skills drawn from the professional skills reference guide for teachers in Quebec.  Interview data was collected based on audio recordings provided using a Dictaphone. The content of each interview has been completely rewritten as verbatim. Interview processing consists first of transcribing the verbatim interviews and then analyzing them using the general inductive analysis procedure. The data collected from the interview intended for mentoring teachers (MT) revealed that they have the same vision with regard to the importance of the professional communication skills  of future physical education teachers and emphasize their weakness during educational interventions.
