The experience of the construction of buildings on permafrost in the city of Norilsk is considered, the main methods of construction under the given conditions are indicated, their advantages and disadvantages are revealed. The study of the localization of deformations in the building, the nature of the deformations shows their consequences. It is revealed that the main cause of mass destruction of buildings is the fi ssion of the soil under the building. The main possible causes of this process are indicated. The economic costs associated with the elimination of the consequences of destruction caused by the ground-breaking have been analyzed, and methods for solving this problem have been proposed.

The article presents a comparative analysis of fortification art monuments in such East countries from Ancient Egypt to medieval China. An attempt is made to identify the main stages of the fortification development from a stand-alone fortress (citadel, fort) to the most complex systems of urban and border fortifications, including moats, walls and gates, battle towers. It is shown that the nature of these architectural structures is determined by the status of the city or settlement, its natural landscape, building structures and materials, the development of military and engineering art. The materials from poliorceticon (Greek: poliorketikon, poliorketika), illustrate the main types of siege machines and mechanisms. The advantages and disadvantages of boundary shafts and long walls (limes). The most striking examples are the defensive systems of Assyria, New Babylon, Judea and Ancient China.

The water management of cities and villages faces many challenges. Aging infrastructure systems operate for many years after their theoretical lifetime (operation) with a very high need for reconstruction and repair. The solution is proper rainwater management. The investigated area is part of the cadastral area of the Nitra city. This article is based on the use of geographic information systems (GIS) as tools in proposing water retention measures that are needed to improve the microenvironment of the city. We proceeded in several steps, which consisted of area analysis, survey, surface runoff calculations in urbanized areas, proposal of a suitable solution for given location. For real possibilities of rainwater management procedures, a new site on the outskirts of the city was selected. In the given locality, it was possible to use water infiltration as a solution. The locality has suitable conditions of land ownership, pedological conditions, the slope of the area and also the interest of the inhabitants in the ecological solution. The outlined study indicates the need to continue research on the reliability of rainwater management practices.

The concept of "heat-island effect", its structure and features of formation over the city are given. The climatic and other features of the city that influence the formation of this phenomenon are mentioned.  The data on functioning in the city of the municipal production enterprise of the heat economy is indicated. The traditional method for determining the formation of the urban "heat-island effect" is described. The data and comparative graphs on the temperature regimes of the city and region are presented. The possibility of influencing architectural features of the city on the formation of the "heat-island-effect" is determined. According to the obtained results, further integrated researches are proposed for obtaining reliable results of the given question.

This research aims to explore how social inequality that occurs due to the advantages and disadvantages of an ethnic group so that it can affect individual attitudes that damage social capital. This research uses a case study approach with in-depth interviews and literature study as data collection techniques. The subjects of this study were ethnic Malay and Chinese female merchants in Pasar Hong Kong, Jambi city, Indonesia. This research found that social inequalities that occur among the female merchants of ethnic Malay and Chinese in Pasar Hongkong occur naturally, where both merchants and buyers have a high tolerance when interacting. Abstract. The paper presents a novel adaptive parametric documentation, modelling and sharing methodology, which aims to achieve a continuous holistic documentation, data processing and sharing process for cultural heritage community, such as architects, engineers, archaeologists, conservators, programmers, fabricators, contest creators, game developers, scholars and common citizens. Thus, the use of advance parametric and building information modelling software allows the processing and specification of all data by creating the 3D models needed for the multidisciplinary experts. Two Cypriot case studies from the medieval time period have been chosen for the development, and evaluation of our proposed methodology in order to investigate the process of modelling and sharing all the given metadata and 3D data. The first one is the Asinou Church, a UNESCO Heritage stone monument in the Troodos Mountains with a unique interior and the Kolossi Castle, a former Crusader stronghold on the west of the city of Limassol on the island of Cyprus.

The growth of number of patients suffering with chronic kidneys disease became a reverse side of increasing of population life-span during recent decades. The treatment of the given pathology places a heavy burden on state economics. Nowadays, the implementation of kidneys transplantation is the main and only one mode of treatment of this disease permitting both to prolong human life and to significantly ameliorate its quality. The actual problem is the evaluation of economic costs occurring under both successful and unsuccessful outcomes of transplantation. The last one results in returning patient to dialysis procedure. The assessment was applied to direct and indirect expenses of kidney transplantation surgery and post-operational monitoring of patient, including application of dialysis. The expenses of treatment of patient with chronic kidneys disease per one person made annually up to: 1 266 967,88 rubles using dialysis therapy; 1 665 110,19 rubles using transplantation with positive outcome; 2 922 078,07 rubles using transplantation with unsuccessful outcome. Besides, in case of unsuccessful outcome of transplantation total amount of economic losses increased more on 91 343,77 rubles annually at the expense of decreasing of tax levy and increasing of disability compensation.

New approaches to the treatment of meniscus lesions is currently a hot topic in traumatology and orthopedics. Meniscus resection and suture issues are widely discussed and studied in modern literature. Current trends in the care of meniscus pathologies are aimed to restore the structure of the damaged segment by stitching it using various techniques. A classification scale plays an important role in the treatment of any disease because it allows to uniformly describe the main criteria of pathology and to define a treatment tactics. The given review describes modern classifications of meniscus lesions with their advantages and disadvantages.

This paper presents a set of arguments claiming that construction of the quarry near Flamborough, Ontario proposed St. Mary’s Cement Inc. should not be permitted. First, the quarry would violate local citizens’ property rights, compromise community health and safety, and incur excessive economic costs. Precautionary measures are insufficient, such that the quarry is expected to irreparably damage drinking water and quality of life. Second, the area proposed for aggregate extraction is mostly undeveloped, containing unique, valuable natural features and ecological linkages. Despite regulation and monitoring according to the provincial Aggregate Resources Act, rehabilitation of the site after aggregate extraction would be inadequate in returning the land to its former condition. This will result in habitat fragmentation and loss of high quality farmland. Furthermore, the construction of the quarry is not permitted under current City of Hamilton zoning regulations; the City of Hamilton, along with the city’s Public Health Services, filed an official objection against construction. Finally, a GIS study has selected a more suitable alternative site for aggregate extraction near Carlisle, which meets the geographic, topographic, and mineral needs of St. Mary’s Cement Group without disturbing habitat or nearby communities.

The selection of a design for the given product is a critical problem in product design development. Focuses of the designers and customers on the design are not identical. In order to bridge the gap and provide a more relaxing way to select the design, a new method based on quality function deployment (QFD) is proposed. In such a method, customers are required to give their linguistic preferences on the design with respect to the customer requirements (CRs). In the rating of the weight of CRs, they are allowed to provide incomplete linguistic weight information and the objective optimization model is proposed to derive the exact linguistic weight information. Designers are required to rate the correlation between design requirements (DRs) and the relationship between the CRs and DRs to construct the house of quality. Opinions given by the customers are translated into the opinions with respect to the DRs based on the QFD. Afterwards, the priorities of the designs and design requirements are determined. The assessment results not only show the contribution of each design requirement to the customer satisfaction but also show the advantages and disadvantages of each design from the designers’ perspective clearly and directly. An example is provided to validate the applicability of the proposed method.
