We report about new observations of solar 'drift pair' (DP) bursts by means of the UTR-2 radio telescope at frequencies 10-30 MHz. Our experimental data include both 'forward' and 'reverse' bursts with high frequency and time resolution. The records of 301 bursts, observed in 10-12 July of 2015, are investigated. The main properties of these bursts (frequency bandwidth, central frequency and others) have been analysed. In this report our main attention is paid to the comparison of our observations with the similar observations of decametre DPs performed earlier during 13-15 July of 2002 in the same frequency range. Common features of DPs in the two different pieces of data samples have been found. This may indicate the possible presence of stability in the frequency-time properties of decametre DPs from one cycle of solar activity to another.

Femtosecond VIS-pump-IR-probe experiments (time resolution: 300fs, detectable absorption change: 5.10-5 , frequency range: 1000–1800 cm-1) were applied to the ultrafast photo isomerisation of azobenzene and the protonated Schiff base of retinal. The energy of the pump photon heats the vibrational system of the molecule, leading to pronounced anharmonic frequency shifts which are dominated by the anharmonic coupling between the investigated high frequency modes to hot low frequency modes. A model taking into account this intramolecular anharmonicity and assuming a well defined intramolecular temperature gives a good fit of the experimental data.

In this work magnetoimpedance (MI) behaviour was studied experimentally for Fe19Ni81(175 nm)/Cu(350 nm)/Fe19Ni81(175 nm) sensitive elements deposited by rf-sputtering. A constant magnetic field was applied in plane of the sandwiches during deposition perpendicular to the Cu-lead in order to induce a magnetic anisotropy. Sandwiches with different width (w) of FeNi parts were obtained. The complex impedance was measured as a function of the external magnetic field for a frequency range of 1 MHz to 700 MHz for MI elements with different geometries. Some of MI experimental data are comparatively analysed with finite elements numerical calculations data. The obtained results can be useful for optimization of the design of miniaturized MI detectors.

The dynamic response of railway track to lateral forces is investigated. Experimental data in the frequency range 50–1500 Hz suggest that track laid on wooden sleepers is adequately represented as a beam (the rail) on a damped elastic support (the ballast). For concrete-sleepered track the railhead appears to move significantly on the lateral flexibility of the web, and a simple continuous model is developed from which its lateral dynamic response may be found.

The article deals with the study of the source of the Persian story “Talisman of the city of darkness” by Reza Marzban. This story is largely inspired by the story of M. Gorky “Danko’s Burning Heart”. The main attention is paid to the problem of close plots, similar images of the place and common features of the characters, etc. Many elements, such as the features of the characters and people’s disappointment in the goal, have significant similarities in both works. Thus, the author of the article makes an attempt to prove that R. Marzban’s story was written under the direct influence of M. Gorky’s story.

The dynamic response of railway track to longitudinal forces is investigated. A model is presented of the rail as a uniform infinite bar resting on a continuous support. There is good agreement in the frequency range 50–1500 Hz between experimental data and the response calculated using this model. The support is significant up to a frequency of about 200 Hz, above which the rail is effectively a dashpot. The discrete nature of the support on sleepers is relatively unimportant. The track moves very much less under longitudinal forces than it does under vertical forces at these frequencies.

Two types of special hearing aid have been developed recently to improve the reception of speech by profoundly deaf children. In a different way, each special system provides greater low-frequency acoustic stimulation to deaf ears than does a conventional hearing aid. One of the devices extends the low-frequency limit of amplification; the other shifts high-frequency energy to a lower frequency range. In general, previous evaluations of these special hearing aids have obtained inconsistent or inconclusive results. This paper reviews most of the published research on the use of special hearing aids by deaf children, summarizes several unpublished studies, and suggests a set of guidelines for future evaluations of special and conventional amplification systems.

This article discusses various ways to attract attention through advertising texts. A comparative analysis of phonetic means in the slogans of English, Arabic and Russian advertising is carried out, and the most effective of them are highlighted. The main attention in the work is paid to such phonetic means as: alliteration, assonance, rhyme and onomatopoeia.

The main features of shallow cracks fracture are considered, and a brief analysis of methods allowing to predict the temperature dependence of the fracture toughness KJC (T) for specimens with shallow cracks is given. These methods include DA-method, (JQ)-method, (J-T)-method, “local methods” with its multiparameter probabilistic approach, GP method uses power approach, and also two engineering methods – RMSC (Russian Method for Shallow Crack) and EMSC (European Method for Shallow Crack). On the basis of 13 sets of experimental data for national and foreign steels, a detailed verification and comparative analysis of these two engineering methods were carried out on the materials of the VVER and PWR nuclear reactor vessels considering the effect of shallow cracks.

Abstract A new simple computational tool is proposed for the synthesis of multi-section coupled-line filters based on combined modified planar circuit method (MPCM) and transmission line method (TLM) analysis, referred to as MPCM-TLM. Due to its fundamentally simple architecture, the presented tool offers significantly faster optimization of coupled-line filters – for exactly the same initial simulation set-up – than other costly commercially-available tools, giving equally reliable results. Validity and accuracy of the proposed tool have been verified through the design of 3rd, 5th, and 7th order coupled-line filters and comparative analysis between results obtained from the proposed approach and the high-frequency structure simulator. A remarkable 99% time reduction in the analysis is recorded in the case of 7th order filter using the proposed tool, for almost identical results to HFSS. Therefore, it can be confidently claimed that the proposed technique can be used as a reliable alternative to existing complex, costly, processor-intensive CAD tools.
