Due to the demographical changes and the currently booming health industry, the medical tourism sector has a great future potential. This paper provides an analysis about the medical tourism market itself and gives an insight in the field of marketing opportunities in the medical tourism development. Therefore, to give a basis for the further development of marketing strategies, the consumer behaviour will be analysed. In addition, a theoretical overview about used and useable Marketing methods in the medical tourism industry will be out-lined. The used scientific methods within this research work are as the following: content analysis, graphical analysis and synthesis, reference methods, logical and abstract constructive methods.

Gastronomy tourism can be a pull factor for many tourism market segments and the role of Gastronomy Tourism in promoting Jharkhand as a Tourist Destination is beautifully presented by Mohinder Chand, Ashish Dahiya and Lata S Patil. Issues of effective teaching and learning in tourism education by Toney K. Thomas reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of the application of skills in the industry. Joby Thomas and P. Pakkerappa in their article highlight the crucial role of HRD in airline industry to cope UP with the challenges of advancement in technology, changing market scenario, industry restructuring and more competitive business environment. Aim. The presented study aims to analyze the current state of the Russian tourism industry in times of crisis.Tasks. The author identifies systemic contradictions in the development of Russian tourism; determines factors affecting the tourism sector; formulates the problems of tourism development during the crisis; proposes ways out of the crisis for Russian tourism.Methods. Over the course of the study, the author uses general scientific methods of cognition, such as comparison, deduction and induction, analysis, generalization and systematization.Results. The identified systemic contradictions in the development of Russian tourism and factors affecting the development of tourism in the Russian Federation allow the author to formulate the problems hindering the development of Russian tourism, such as underdeveloped infrastructure, lack of consideration for the environmental burden on tourist attractions, low innovative activity in the tourism sector, low recognition of Russian tourist brands in foreign markets and domestically, inefficient tourism management system at the national and municipal level, poor training of personnel in the field of tourism, lack of social tourism, insufficient government support under crisis conditions. That said, the solution to each problem is of nationwide significance.Conclusions. Today, Russia has great potential for the development of both domestic and inbound tourism. However, the reality of the economy and international relations, especially during a crisis, leads to Russia’s tourist potential being largely unfulfilled amid strong competition from the foreign tourism market. The proposed solutions to the problems of domestic tourism outlined in the study make it possible to facilitate the development of the tourism sector and enhance competitive potential.

The article analyzes the impact of tourism on improving investment climate in the region. The main factors of investment attractiveness of the developing areas of tourism are considered, among which the ability of the tourism industry to develop on almost any site with a variety of conditions and resources of activity that is related to diversity of tourist activities; and the multiplier effect of tourism development which contributes to the development of related sectors of activity. The article presents the results of a study of various aspects of the formation of the national innovation system for the development of tourism. In particular, characterized are the features of the implementation of the cluster approach to the development of tourism in the territories of the Russian Federation, among which the most outstanding are: the lack of experience in the implementation of the cluster approach or unsuccessful attempts to copy foreign experience; priority areas in the development of only one type of clusters — the territorial-production; imperfection of the regulatory framework. These problems, according to the authors, exist along with the typical problems of tourism clusters, which include inadequate specialized infrastructure and services; the poor state of the key tourist sites; failure to comply with quality standards (or their absence) for services offered to tourists. According to the analysis of the legal documentation in the tourism sector of the Russian Federation and monitoring of the development of tourist areas in the article substantiated is the conclusion about the need to tough public policy, defining legal boundaries and strategic guidelines for the development of tourism on the innovative type, as well as the need to adjust the existing practice of tourism territories, which currently does not increase the investment attractiveness of regions.

Experience from many countries shows that tourism contributes greatly to the economic growth that can improve the welfare and quality of citizens’ lives. To enhance the role of the tourism sector to improve the economy, increasing the competitiveness of this sector is the key. For Indonesia, which has great potential in the tourism sector, tourism development strategies are needed to improve the competitiveness of the tourism industry. The purpose of this study is to determine the position of competitiveness in Indonesia’s tourism sector, especially compared to some major ASEAN countries, and propose appropriate tourism development strategies. After mapping the condition of Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness compared to some other major ASEAN countries, this study uses STP (segmenting, targeting, and positioning) to find appropriate tourism development strategies. This research utilizes secondary data. The results show that compared to some other major ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand), Indonesia's tourism competitiveness in some aspects is low, although this condition has improved in recent years. However, given the demands of the dynamic tourism market, the competitiveness needs to be improved continuously. This necessitates special strategies, so that the efforts match with the target. Tourism development often does not pay attention to the preservation of natural resources and local culture which are also affected by tourism development and considers that the tourism industry is an industry whose existence is interrelated. This research is descriptive research in the form of written or oral words from people and observable behavior and to be able to better identify the variables to be examined in relation to them and aims to present a structured, factual, and accurate description of the facts -fact and the relationship between the variables to be studied. From the results of the study there are positive and negative impacts that arise. Both environmental, socio-cultural, and economic impacts on local communities who are the main actors who feel the impact of tourism development. The community has felt the positive impact provided by the tourism sector. Although there are still negative impacts that are also felt.

Purpose This paper aims to address and identify the major stakeholders in the medical tourism industry, based on their participation in medical tourism activities and their support for medical tourism development. Design/methodology/approach This paper systematically reviews the content of medical tourism studies from literature to identify key stakeholders and address the roles they play in the medical tourism industry. Findings This study shows that the key stakeholders in the medical tourism industry are eight, namely, medical tourists, health-care providers, government agencies, facilitators, accreditation and credentialing bodies, health-care marketers, insurance providers and infrastructure and facilities. These stakeholders strongly influence medical tourists’ decision-making process in seeking medical treatment abroad. Besides, a successful medical tourism development depends greatly on the excellent partnership between all stakeholders. Practical implications This paper sheds light on the crucial role of these stakeholders that can be an important consideration in medical tourists’ decision-making process and industry growth. The study can facilitate policymakers in designing and developing policies to improve medical tourism practices. Originality/value This paper expands the knowledge about medical tourism literature by identifying and explaining the significant role of each stakeholder in the industry. The results of this paper are quite revealing to all practitioners in terms of the potential strategies and medical tourism growth. The study establishes a foundation for future medical tourism research in the rapidly growing industry.

The article is devoted to deepening the theoretical foundations of medical tourism development in Ukraine and substantiation of the multiplier effect of medical tourism. To this end, the four main motives of medical tourism in the world are considered (lower cost of treatment and diagnosis in another country; more modern medical technologies abroad; highly qualified medical care and service; time factor (with a long wait for medical treatment in their country)) main directions of medical tourism (inbound medical tourism and outbound medical tourism). It is established that at this stage of development of our country there is no regulatory regulation of medical tourism. There are only certain non-governmental organizations whose activities are aimed at: 1) development of medical tourism and involvement in the field of medical tourism of doctors interested in its development: Medical Tourism Association (UAMT) (established in 2013); 2) search for a clinic for a potential patient and provide such clinics with proposals to attract the best price experience and conditions to solve a problem (Medical Tourism Exchange, established in 2015). The reasons for the rapid development of the medical tourism industry in Ukraine are presented, the structure of outbound tourism in Ukraine by service providers is studied. Trends in the development of inbound medical tourism are analyzed. The analysis of the state of outbound and inbound medical tourism helped to generalize and highlight the main trends in the medical tourism market in Ukraine and the prerequisites for further development of its own segment of medical tourism, as well as to identify existing limitations and issues. Effective tourism strategies of a developing country can create revenue generating opportunities (tax revenues) and provide sustainable employment for semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Such tourism development strategies require systemic thinking and comprehensive investment portfolio strategies regarding the tourism industry as a whole, i.e. going beyond investing in hotels, but also including transportation infrastructure, catering, restaurants, safe water, financial system etc. In other words, the destination countries need to review their tourism value & supply chains and identify structural impediments to the full utilization of their tourism assets and facilities. This chapter shows how Least Developed Countries (LDCs) can define their tourism sector development and suggests a framework which can be used by a LDC to assess its tourism development potential. It can also be used by potential investors interested in investing in an LDC's tourism sector who need to understand the broader context of doing business in LDCs.

Tourism industry provides economic growth in all over the world. In the same time Ukrainian tourism industry going through hard times. The purpose of the study is to identify and assess the existing risks of the tourism industry in Ukraine, excluding the East of Ukraine, and explore the preconditions for avoiding or reducing these risks. Being that it is necessary to strengthen the image of Ukraine as a reliable state for travel in the foreign tourist’s eyes. The object of a study is the process of managing the risks of the tourism industry at the state level. The main hypothesis of the study is that the growth of the contribution of tourism to the country's GDP depends on the risks of the tourist enterprises and the level of the tourist’s risks in Ukraine. The theoretical base of risks in tourism and the dynamics of Ukrainian tourist arrivals and amount of tourist enterprises were considered in the study. The model of risk management in tourism is developed in the paper. The methodological basis were the following scientific methods: analysis and synthesis (for identification and evaluating types of touristic hazards in Ukraine), theoretical search and abstract-logical (for analyzing a risk management approaches), expert method (for identification and assessing an influence of tourism risks); graph method (to describe arrivals number and to forecast amount of enterprises in Ukraine); the method of least squares was used for the forecasting of the number of tourist enterprises in Ukraine; the principal component analysis method for grouping risks in Ukraine. The analysis of the future risks of the tourism industry of Ukraine was conducted. According to the results of the investigation, the recommendations about measures which should be taken by the state to manage and prevent risks were proposed.

Purpose This paper aims to examine challenges and prospects of the Malaysian Islamic medical tourism sector and suggests strategies to leverage the strengths and opportunities as well as overcome the weaknesses and threats. Design/methodology/approach A series of semi-structured interviews were conducted with the Islamic hospital managers. Information collected was transcribed and content analysis was used to group the variables into the four SWOT categories. Findings The SWOT analysis identified several strengths (e.g. great hospitality, country’s characteristics and development of Islamic compliant hospital), weaknesses (e.g. low international certifications), opportunities (e.g. growing Muslim populations, Sept 11 incidence) and threats (e.g. competition from major medical tourism market and non-uniformity of Islamic medical tourism standards). Research limitations/implications This paper could provide understanding of the sector and fundamental on the Islamic medical tourism market. Yet the SWOT analysis does not indicate how to achieve competitive advantage and result may become obsolete, with the dynamic environments. Practical implications This paper could serve as a guideline for the industry stakeholders to have better understanding in their business environment. Originality/value This paper is the first of its kind to integrate SWOT analysis and Islamic medical tourism industry. Hence, the findings could broaden knowledge on Islamic medical tourism industry and facilitate firms in tapping the growing market.
