Introduction: Fibromyalgia is a non-inflammatory rheumatic syndrome of unknown etiology manifested in the musculoskeletal system through diffuse and chronic pain and presence of tender points, which may be associated with fatigue, anxiety, muscle stiffness, skin sensitivity, pain after exercise, functional impairment and sleep disorders. Objective: This study aimed to perform a systematic literature review in order to check which physiotherapy resources are mostly used today and what are the most significant results in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Method: An integrative literature review was conducted by searching electronic databases of indexed data such as Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences (LILACS), MEDLINE/ PubMed and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). Randomized clinical trials were selected in the period from January 2001 to June 2013 published in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Methodological quality was assessed using the Jadad Quality Scale. Results: Overall, 522 studies were reviewed in full and only 13 were included after application of the exclusion criteria. Among these, articles that addressed the use of electrotherapic resources (n = 4), hydrotherapy (n = 3), conventional therapy (n = 3), physical exercise (n = 2) and multidisciplinary treatment (n = 1) were identified, with diversified results, protocols and application times of each methodology. Conclusion: It has been found that there are a small number of studies with scientific relevance published in the last 10 years evidencing techniques that have obtained better results in the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia. Further studies with better design aimed at obtaining more conclusive results should be conducted.

In recent years there has been a lot of talk about toothpastes with a particular chemical compound: stannous fluoride (SnF2). Its presence is currently still highly controversial, as the latter could have negative health effects. The different companies that produce toothpastes express its dosage in ppm. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to analyze all randomized clinical trials in the literature over the last 10 years and to draw clear results on the function of stannous fluoride, for this purpose the authors performed a Mann–Whitney U Test. Materials: The first analysis of the literature produced a number greater than 800 results, subsequently applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and following a manual analysis of the results, 26 manuscripts have been obtained. Results: From the results analyzed in this review, it could be shown that stannous fluoride does not present important contraindications, if not those commonly reported for fluorine. A meta-analysis on enamel loss has been conducted, it shows that SnF2 products provide better results with a p < 0.05 value. Conclusion: This compound could have significant effects in favor of erosion and recalcification of the enamel, on the biofilm formation, gingival inflammation, and in addition, it could be an important aid in the removal of tooth stains and halitosis.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this literature review about malocclusion was to identify epidemiologic instruments which are being used in Public Health, as well as to bring information regarding the occlusal alterations more prevalent in children and adolescents. METHODS: Information presented in previous studies was reviewed, in articles published in period 1997-2007, considering the production registered in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences, Scientific Electronic Library Online, International Database for Medical Literature and Brazilian Dentistry Bibliography. RESULTS: The total of 191 identified references, 170 had been eliminated after the implementation of the exclusion criteria and 21 articles met the proposed inclusion criteria and had served of base for this work. The use of different criteria made difficult the comparison of studies in literature and did not offer parameters that can guide the scientific evidences. CONCLUSION: The most used epidemiologic indices were Dental Aesthetic Index and Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need and it was observed predominance of open bite in the deciduous dentition and crowding in the mixed and permanent dentitions.
