Aim. To assess the clinical and immunological features in patients with chronic opisthorchiasis, depending on the duration of the infection. Methods. The first group consisted of 19 patients with the duration of the infection up to 1 year, the second group consisted of 21 patients with the duration of the infection between 1 and 5 years, the third group was formed of 23 patients with the duration of the disease more than 5 years, the control group 20 healthy individuals. Immunological research was carried out at the Clinical Diagnostic Center. Statistical processing was performed using Microsoft Excel 2010 and Statistica 6.0 software. The statistical significance of differences was determined by using the MannWhitney test (U-test) at the level of significance of p 0.05. The correlations were assessed by calculating Spearman's rank correlation coefficients. Results Clinical features of chronic opisthorchiasis were revealed in the disease duration groups of up to 1 year, from 1 year to 5 years, more than 5 years: the subclinical course was most common in the group of up to 1 year; cholangiohepatitis prevailed in the group of between 1 to 5 years, allergic skin syndrome, cholangiocholecystitis and pancreatitis dominated in the group of more than 5 years. The immune response in chronic opisthorchiasis was characterized by: up to 1 year lymphocytosis, increased levels of immunoglobulins M (IgM) and circulating immune complexes (CIC), a decrease in the number of T-lymphocytes (CD3+), as well as an increase in bactericidal activity of leukocytes (BAL); between 1 and 5 years monocytosis, increased levels of immunoglobulins M, immunoglobulins G and circulating immune complexes, a decrease in T-cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD8+) and nitro blue tetrazolium (NBT test), as well as an increase in NK cells and phagocytic activity of monocytes, more than 5 years eosinophilia. Conclusion. Common features of rearrangement of the immune system in opisthorchiasis: inflammatory changes in the hemogram, activation of humoral immunity with parallel suppression of the cellular component of the immune system, and increased phagocytosis.

The results of the studies on the infl uence of Selenium and Germanium nanoacqualates complex on the content of immunoglobulins and circulating immune complexes in quail’s are presented in the article. It was found that the level of immunoglobulins is the main indicator of the state of humoral immunity. According to the results of the studies the content of immunoglobulins A, M, G in the quail’s serum was 0.80 ± 0.03 mg/ml, 0.30 ± 0.01 mg/ml, and 5.82 ± 0 , 06 mg/ml, accordingly. That are 31.1%, 20.0% and 6.0%, respectively, comparing with data of the control group. Inthe serum of fi ve days old quail’s Ig A content was 0.84 ± 0.02 mg/ml, Ig M 0.54 ± 0.03 mg/ml and Ig G 6.87 ± 0.04 mg/ml, that consisted 29.2%, 42.1% and 5.0%, respectively, comparing with the control group. The content of circulating immune complexes (CEC) in theblood serum of one- and fi ve-days old quails was 1.5 and 1.6 times, respectively lower than in the birds of the control group. The content of low molecular weight CECs in the serum of one- and fi ve-days old quail, decreased signifi cantly in both groups(in 2 and 1.1 times, respectively). This probably characterizes the overall effi cacy and balance of the immune system's responses in quails exposed to Selenium and Germanium nanoacqualates at used doses of 0.05 μg/kg and 5.0 μg/kg, respectively. We consider that as a positive eff ect on the immunity of quails in the early post-embryonic period. Therefore, the use of Selenium and Germanium nanoacqualates complex has a complementary eff ect and helps to increase the immunoreactivity of young animals by maintaining the activity of the immune system. Key words: Selenium nanoacquachelate, Germanium nanoacquachelate, quails, immunoglobulins, immunity.

The influence of the chronopharmacological scheme of treatment with the use of exogenous Melatonin in the form of the Melaksen drug on the immunity status of psoriasis patients has been studied. The study of the immunity status consisted in determination of the main Manchini classes of immunoglobulins A, M, G, the level of circulating immune complexes by the method of selective precipitation in 3% polyethylene glycol. In addition, we determined the subpopulation of lymphocytes carrying CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16, CD 25, and CD72 antigens by the immunofluorescent method. In has been found that Melatonin in psoriasis patients exerts the immunomodulatory action on the immune system at the combined treatment (due to an increase in the number of -lymphocytes with cytotoxic-suppressive properties at obvious signs of immune disbalance in the form of the increased ratio of Т CD4+ and CD8+).

Abstract Using a double-beam spectrophotometer, we investigated the clinical utility of a nephelometric method for assaying immune complexes. The complexes were concentrated from serum by precipitation with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and assayed by reaction with C1q. Testing of more than 100 sera showed a Spearman's rank correlation (p) between the present assay and the C1q-binding assay of 0.57, and 0.39 between the Raji cell assay and the present assay. Clinical sensitivity of the methods was not statistically different (p less than or equal to 0.5). Twenty-four of 30 patients with symptoms of disease showed increased concentrations of immune complexes by the present assay; only one of 38 normal individuals showed an increase. In a longitudinal study, we found that the concentrations of immune complexes paralleled clinical changes, indicating good clinical utility. The use of this assay with single-beam analyzers is limited because of the poor aqueous solubility of the PEG precipitate. Ongoing investigations designed to circumvent this problem are described.

The aim of the study was to conduct a comparative assessment of the optical density of bone tissue of the alveolar process of the jaws of rats in supraocclusive relationships of individual teeth in the age aspect. Materials and methods: The study was performed on 60 white laboratory rats. Rats were divided into control (30 individuals) and experimental (30 individuals) groups. According to the age of rats each group was divided into 3 subgroups (10 animals): young, mature and senile. In the experimental group, the state of supraocclusion was modeled by increasing the height of the lower right second molars placing a seal 1 mm high. Experimental animals were removed from the experiment on the 15th day through decapitation. The lower jaws were skeletonized, jaw blocks were sawn in the molar area. Bone mineral density was determined using optical densitometry. The statistical processing defined the average (M) and its error (m). The statistical significance of the difference in two independent groups was performed according to nonparametric criteria (Mann-Whitney U-test and W-Wilcoxon test). Statistical processing was conducted with the help of integrated package of statistical program AtteStat 12.0.5 for MS Excel. Differences at p≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Statistical discrepancy is present in rats of mature and senile age, as well as between the indicators of all rats of the control and experimental groups (≤0.05). No significant difference was observed in young rats, but the indicators of the experimental group were 3.82% worse than in the control group. In senile rats, the density of the alveolar process decreased by 26.6%, in adult rats by 17.5%. Conclusions: The presence of supraocclusive relationships of individual teeth causes a decrease in bone density of the alveolar process of the jaws in rats. The greatest loss of density among age groups in elderly rats.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the second most common subtype of stroke, and it is often associated with a high mortality rate and significant morbidity among survivors. Recent studies have shown that bilirubin, a product of heme metabolism, can exhibit cytoprotective, antioxidant and, anti-inflammatory properties. However, little is known about the role of bilirubin in combating several pathophysiological pathways caused by intracerebral bleeding in patients with ICH. In this study, data were collected retrospectively on 276 patients with ICH who were admitted to a university hospital between 5 January 2014 and 31 December 2017. We assessed the relationship between levels of total, direct, and indirect serum bilirubin and assessments of initial stroke severity and clinical outcomes by using Spearman’s rank correlation and Kruskal-Wallis H tests. A secondary examination of the carrier protein albumin was also undertaken. Our study found that higher levels of direct bilirubin were correlated with worse admission Glasgow Coma Scales (GCS) (rs = −0.17, p = 0.011), worse admission ICH Scores (rs = 0.19, p = 0.008), and worse discharge modified Rankin Scales (mRS) (rs = 0.15, p = 0.045). Direct bilirubin was still significantly correlated with discharge mRS after adjusting for temperature at admission (rs = 0.16, p = 0.047), oxygen saturation at admission (rs = 0.15, p = 0.048), white blood cell count (rs = 0.18, p = 0.023), or Troponin T (rs = 0.25, p = 0.001) using partial Spearman’s correlation. No statistical significance was found between levels of total or indirect bilirubin and assessments of stroke severity and outcomes. In contrast, higher levels of albumin were correlated with better admission GCS (rs = 0.13, p = 0.027), discharge GCS (rs = 0.15, p = 0.013), and discharge mRS (rs = −0.16, p = 0.023). We found that levels of total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, and albumin were all significantly related to discharge outcomes classified by discharge destinations (p = 0.036, p = 0.014, p = 0.016, respectively; Kruskal-Wallis H tests). In conclusion, higher direct bilirubin levels were associated with greater stroke severity at presentation and worse outcomes at discharge among patients with ICH. Higher levels of albumin were associated with lower stroke severity and better clinical outcomes. Future prospective studies on the free bioactive bilirubin are needed to better understand the intricate relationships between bilirubin and ICH.

Lichen planus is considered as a multifactorial disease. Various factors play a role in the development of lichen planus of the oral mucosa: genetic, dental materials that are used for restoration, prosthetics of teeth, Helicobacter pylori, viruses, psychological stress, somatic pathology and others. The pathogenesis of oral lichen planus is based on an autoimmune process. The aim of the study was to determine the immunological reactivity in patients with various clinical forms of lichen planus of the oral mucosa. The study carried out clinical, laboratory examination of 75 female patients aged 29 to 75 years old with red lichen planus of the oral mucosa. All patients were divided into three groups depending on the clinical form of the disease. The control group consisted of 30 women aged 39 to 70 years old without red lichen planus of the oral mucosa. The phagocytic activity of neutrophils, the level of immunoglobulins of classes A, M, G and circulating immune complexes in the blood serum were evaluated. The humoral link of immunity in patients with exudative-hyperemic form of OLP was characterized by hyperimmunoglobulinemia of classes A, M, G, an increase in circulating immune complexes, in patients with erosive-ulcerative form of hyperimmunoglobulinemia of class M against the background of hypoimmunoglobulinemia A, G and an increase in circulating immune complexes. In patients with a typical form of OLP, only an increase in the level of circulating immune complexes was noted. When assessing the immune reactivity in patients with OLP, the relationship between the manifestations of the "dysphagocytosis" syndrome, disorders in the humoral immunity system with various clinical forms of the disease was established. This fact allows us to conclude about the pathogenetic role of an imbalance in the system of mechanisms that ensure the elimination of pathogens, including infectious nature in the occurrence of a disease with the formation of an autoimmune component.

Background. Breastfeeding is the most common way of feeding infants. Human milk contains nutrients which are necessary to provide proper growth of a child. Nowadays there aren't any recommendations to follow elimination diet in order to decrease the risk of allergy or baby colic. Only the occurrence of health problems such as lactose intolerance or cow's milk protein allergy in breastfeeding mother or infant should be a reason for eliminating dairy products from diet. It seems to be important to explore the reasons and the frequency of following milk-free diet by breastfeeding women. Objectives. The main purpose of the study was to find the reasons for following milk-free diet by breastfeeding women and making an assessment of their nutrition knowledge and food habits. Material and methods. Thirty-three breastfeeding women following milk-free diet took part in the project. The women were interviewed by the Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) method with an original questionnaire. The results were developed with Spearman's rank correlation, Chi2 test and the gamma coefficient. The statistical significance level for the p-value was <0.05. Results. The main reason for following milk-free diet by the breastfeeding women was the occurrence of hypersensitivity reactions of the children's gastrointestinal system after consuming milk by mother (72% responses). After excluding milk from diet only 42% respondents declared consuming new food products or dietary supplements in order to refill the potential deficiency of nutrients. The majority of respondents also eliminated from diet highly processed food products, fast-food and the carbonated drinks. The most often declared source of information about lactation was Internet (85%). Only 12% respondents asked a nutritionist in order to get the information about breastfeeding. Conclusions. It's necessary to promote a specific nutritional advice about following milk-free diet in breastfeeding women group in order to decrease the health risk connected with low calcium diet.
