The article presents the results of clinical and microbiological studies and immunological features of the state of periodontal tissues in patients with moderate periodontitis, which developed as a complication of orthodontic treatment. It was found that at the later stages of orthodontic treatment with the development of periodontitis, a complex of persistent changes in the periodontal tissues at different levels of pathogen-esis was revealed in patients. In this connection, in order to plan the complex treatment of patients with periodontitis, which has developed as a complication of orthodontic treatment, and to predict the course of the disease, it is necessary to influence the established and mutually supportive links and indicators of pathogenesis.

Orthopedic and orthodontic treatment of 49 patients aged 6 to 17 years with dentition defects in the frontal area was examined and performed to conduct and determine the state of the masticatory muscles in children with dentition defects. Patients were divided into two groups depending on the period of formation of the dento-maxillaire system and each of the groups was divided into two subgroups depending on the method of treatment and the mechanism of fixation of the orthodontic appliance in the oral cavity. When comparing the indicators between groups I A and I B, we can state that there were more qualitative and dynamic changes in electromyographic indicators in children of group I B than group I A. When comparing the data received after orthopedic and orthodontic treatment of children in group II, we can state that quantitative and qualitative indicators of electromyography for group II B were better than those of children in group II A. In children who were treated with removable appliances, these indicators improved, but remained at a worse level than in those treated with non-removable appliances.

Subject. At the present stage of society development cancer incidence remains among the most pressing medical and social problems. In the structure of oncopathology a special place is occupied by malignant neoplasms of lymphoid and hematopoietic tissues which include chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). In some patients, the disease can appear with dental symptoms associated with a decrease in local immunity of the oral cavity — the appearance of aphthae, plaque on the oral mucosa, angular cheilosis, bleeding gums, dry mouth. It is diagnostically significant that such oral symptoms may precede general clinical symptoms, that is, they can be considered as early symptoms of CML. In addition, their severity often prompts a patient with CML to see a dentist. Thus, the importance of the professional knowledge of the dentist in general clinical and dental symptomatology of CML, the correct routing of the patient for further clinical and laboratory examination, treatment and observation by a hematologist is undeniably high. The goal is to study and identify the features of the dental status of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia. Methodology. The work carried out a comprehensive assessment of the state of the oral cavity and the need for dental treatment of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in which patients with preserved systemic status and patients with chronic myeloid leukemia took part. Results. According to the results of a complex dental examination and the calculation of the main dental indices, patients with CML were found to have serious disorders in the state of their oral health. Conclusions. Patients with CML showed a high need for various types of dental care, primarily in conservative oral cavity sanitation, periodontal treatment and rationalization of oral hygiene protocols (professional and individual).

Gastrointestinal parasites of wild birds in a tropical riverine urban ecosystem in Heredia, Costa Rica. In urban ecosystems, rivers provide various ecosystem services, among them, serving as interurban biological corridor, allowing birds to move and shelter in the middle of the city. However, high levels of pollution expose them, and even humans, to several health problems. Hence the importance of performing environmental diagnoses that allows to identify alterations and mitigate them in a timely manner. This study provides a first diagnosis of the parasitic situation of wild birds along the Pirro river which is located in an urban environment, fragmented and with high levels of surface water pollution. The sampling was carried out at the upper and middle part of the Pirro river in Heredia, Costa Rica. Mist-nets were used to capture the birds, and a general objective exam (GOE) was conducted in order to evaluate their nutritional and hydration state, as well as their physical state. In addition, stool samples were collected in order to characterize the gastrointestinal parasites (GPI). This procedure was carried out on 158 birds, belonging to 30 species, three PGI groups were identified: protozoa, nematodes and cestodes. The highest percentages of infection were represented by coccidia, with 97.6 %, followed by nematodes and cestodes with 2.4 %. Within the group of coccidios, it was possible to identify Eimeria spp., Isospora spp., in the nematodes: at the Strongylida group level and at the Capillaria spp., and for the cestodes: Choanotaenia spp. GOE resulted regular-to-good in all individuals captured, however, a general linear model was used to identify that the oral cavity and the state of the plumage could be the more linked variables with the percentage of infection by gastrointestinal parasites in birds, due to the fact that the oral cavity is the bird’s main route of ingestion, as well as the state of the plumage shows its vigor. Aim. To study the condition of the autonomic nervous system in groups of adolescents in the period of retention after active orthodontic treatment with non-removable equipment. Methods. Examined were 100 adolescents aged 13-17 years in the period of retention after active orthodontic treatment. The baseline autonomic tone was assessed according to the combined table of sympathetic and parasympathetic reactions (Wayne A., 1981) in the modification of N.A. Belokon’ et al. (1986) for children and adolescents, taken into account were the heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In order to evaluate the adaptation of the organism used was a mathematical analysis of the heart rhythm (cardiointervalography), determined was the mode (Mo), the amplitude of the mode (AMo), and the variational span (ΔX). Results. Revealed were two groups of patients with different variants of the course of retention: favorable course without recurrence (53%) and unfavorable course with recurrences (47%). In the group of patients with recurrences cardiointervalography most frequently showed a asympaticotonic (41.7%) or hypersympaticotonic (58.3%) type of autonomic reactivity. In all patients of the group with recurrences noted was a disturbance of the adaptation processes. The state of adaptation is regarded as unsatisfactory in 72.6% of cases, as the complete adaptation failure - in 27.4%. Conclusion. A recurrence during the period of retention after active orthodontic treatment occurs significantly more frequently in the group of patients with high constraint and overload of the autonomic reactivity, with a mismatch of cardiac rhythm management processes, with a reduction of the adaptive capacity of the organism to the level of complete failure of adaptation; patients who have expressed sympathicotonia, are at risk for destructive periodontal disease and require special attention during the retention period.
