Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences Professor Sergei Viktorovich Anichkov (1892-1981) is a great Soviet scientist pharmacologist, the founder of Soviet neuropharmacology. Educated in Military Medical Academy, Kazan Medical Institute, Petrograd Woman’s Medical Institute. The famous Russian Professors I.P. Pavlov, V.N. Boldyrev, N.P. Kravkov and A.A. Likhachev were his teachers. Headed Department of Pharmacology in Military Medical Academy, Leningrad (1924-1937), Department of Pharmacology in Institute of Experimental Medicine, the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1948-1981). The main studies of S.V. Anichkov were devoted to pharmacology of chemoreceptors of the carotid bodies, cholinergic regulation of physiological functions, pharmacology of endocrine regulation, pharmacotherapy of neurogenic dystrophies, toxicology of military toxic compounds. Published more 250 papers including 10 monographs. Under his leadership, more 10 drugs (ethimizol, sygetine, metamizil, paramion etc) were developed and adopted for wide medical practice in the USSR. Founded one of the big scientific school in the field of pharmacology in the USSR. Laureate of Lenin and State prices of the USSR.

The article provides data on scientific research of the Moscow scientific school of academicians D.A. Zhdanov and M.R. Sapin in the field of morphofunctional organization of the lymphatic and immune systems. The historical materials and scientific research of their students and followers were studied. The biographical milestones in the life and professional activities of Academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences D.A. Zhdanov and his student, academician of the RAS M.R. Sapin within the walls of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical Institute (now – Sechenov University). The main scientific direction of D.A. Zhdanov taught about the lymphatic system. As a result of his research, the important role of the organs of the immune system in the formation of the body's response to antigenic effects was shown. Studying the professional and creative activities of M.R. Sapin showed that he was a fairly bright personality in the morphological community. A large number of his students and followers allows the scientific direction of academician M.R. Sapin live and develop today. New scientists-morphologists, using modern research methods, will continue and develop the teachings of M.R. Sapin, as in his time he continued and deepened the scientific direction of his teacher.

The publication is a translation of a Latin manuscript by N.L. Bidloo of 1710, the only copy of which is kept in the fundamental library of the Military Medical Academy. S. M. Kirov in Leningrad. The translation of the manuscript was done by Cand. philol. Sciences A. A. Sodomora and Dr. med. Sciences M.I.Dubovoy. The book is well illustrated. Images of surgical instruments belonging to Peter the Great were taken from the collection of the State Hermitage. Among the illustrations are stylized drawings of surgical operations, recreated on the basis of the text of the manuscript by Lviv artists - candidate med. Sciences AI Mendelai and associate professor GM Skubchenko. The book is superbly designed by the artist B.K.Krivitsky. In general, the publication is an example of the printing art.

In commemoration of the 125-th birth anniversary The creative pathway of Professor Haik Shakhbazian, including the stages of the formation and development of his personality from practical sanitary physician to scientific researcher, Director of the Institute and Head of the Department, as well as the WHO expert and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was investigated. The contribution of the scientist to physiology and labour hygiene, in particular to a new scientific direction –the hygiene of the industrial microclimate, founded by Professor Shakhbazian, has been analyzed. The stages of the scientist’s and teacher’s work at Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Labour Hygiene and Occupational Diseases and at the Department of Labour Hygiene and Occupational Diseases in the Bohomolets Kyiv Medical Institute were studied. Monographs, textbooks, teaching materials, lectures of the scientist and his social activities were analyzed. The glorious traditions of the Professor Shakhbazian’s scientific school were continued by his numerous students.

This study highlighted the main stages of the formation and development of surgery of bile ducts by the scientific school of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Professor Sergey Petrovich Fedorov. The current state of this area of surgery and its prospects are also considered. The works of S.P. Fedorov and his students opened a new page in surgery of that time: surgical treatment of patients with liver and biliary tract diseases. The results of research of the last three decades are the subject of particular pride in the successful continuation of the work of the founder of hepatobiliary surgery in our country. The scientific search and relay of the achievements of the scientific school of Professor S.P. Fedorov were performed in numerous publications, such as in periodicals, monographs, manuals, and speeches in our country and abroad, in a cumulated form, and this is presented in dissertations. In the study of the peculiarities of housing and communal services, both fundamental and applied aspects of solving this social problem of modern society are being developed. After the death of Sergey Petrovich, 17 candidate and 5 doctoral dissertations on the problems of biliary tract surgery were defended in the clinic of S.P. Fedorov Faculty of Surgery of S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. After over the past years, more than 200 articles, four monographs and manuals were published, and many messages were made at scientific forums in our country and abroad.

Shamov, Vladimir Nikolaevich (1882-1962) – an outstanding Soviet surgeon, neurosurgeon, transfuziolog, academician of the USSR (1945), honored scientist of the RSFSR and the Ukrainian SSR, General-Lieutenant of medical service, laureate of the Lenin prize (1962); awarded the order of Lenin (twice), red banner (twice), red banner, red Star and medals of the USSR. Born may 22, 1882 in Menzelinsk, Ufa governorate (now Tatarstan). In 1908 he graduated from the Military medical Academy. In 1911 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic: "the importance of physical methods for surgery of malignant tumors". From 1914 to 1923 V. N. Shamov – senior assistant in the Department of Fedorov. In 1919 he received isohemagglutinins serum for the determination of blood groups and for the first time the country produced a blood transfusion given group membership. In 1923, V. N. Shamov was elected as head of the Department of surgery of the Kharkov medical Institute and the surgical clinic of the Ukrainian Institute of experimental medicine. In 1926, he reported he developed a method of complete isolation from neural connections of the small intestine, derived under the skin, and transferring it to the blood supply of the subcutaneous vessels. In 1928, V. N. Shamov proposed and successfully conducted the transfusion of cadaveric blood. In 1930, he organized the second in the USSR and in the world Institute of blood transfusion and emergency surgery, and became its Director. In 1935 he was awarded the title of honored Worker of science. In the years 1939-1958 V. N. Shamov headed the Department of hospital surgery of the Military medical Academy, he was the scientific Director of the Leningrad Institute of blood transfusion (1939-1941). During world war II – General-Lieutenant of medical service, Deputy chief surgeon of the red Army, in 1945 – the chief surgeon of the Supreme command of the far Eastern front. In October 1945, he was elected a full member of the USSR AMS. Since 1947 – was also the Director of the Leningrad research neurosurgical Institute them. A. L. Polenov, surgeon-in-chief of the RSFSR. Since 1958 Professor-consultant of the Military medical Academy. In 1962, V. N. Shamov became a laureate of the Lenin prize for development and introduction in practice of the method of preparation and use fibrinoliticescoy blood. N. V.N. Shamov was a member of the Board of the all-Union society of surgeons and the International Association of surgeons, Chairman of the Surgical society. N.I.Pirogov, the Chairman of the organizing Bureau of the 24th all-Union Congress of surgeons, member of the scientific medical Council of Ministry of health of the USSR. More than 20 of his students became heads of departments of medical Universities. V. N. Shamov awarded the order of Lenin twice red banner (twice); the red banner of Labour, red Star, medals of the USSR. Died V.N. Shamov in Leningrad on 30 March 1962. In memory of academician V. N. The Shamov in St. Petersburg on the building of the Military medical Academy and Neurosurgical Institute. Professor A. L. Polenov installed a memorial plaque, a bust of Lieutenant General of medical service V. N. Shamova installed in the courtyard of the St. Petersburg blood transfusion center, one of the streets of the city of Menzelinsk were named after academician V. N. Shamova.

Outstanding representatives of the St. Petersburg medical dynasty from the Waldman family: V.A. Waldman, his son A.V. Waldman and sister A.A. Waldman made a huge contribution to the health care of our country. The founder and first head of the department of faculty therapy at the Leningrad State Pediatric Medical Institute, Viktor A. Waldman, is an outstanding therapist, cardiologist, rheumatologist, classic of domestic medicine, a successor to the best traditions of the Botkin school. Cardiovascular pathology was studied clinically and experimentally by him and his staff, the pathogenesis of various forms of rheumatism was studied, methods for its diagnosis and treatment were developed. He did a great job of creating the rheumatological service of the city, for the first time founded in Leningrad cardiac rheumatology rooms at large enterprises, and later on a cardiac rheumatology clinic. Arthur V. Waldman son of V.A. Waldman, a prominent pharmacologist, head of the department of pharmacology of the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute named after academician I.P. Pavlov, academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR made a significant contribution to the study of the mechanism of action of various pharmacological substances on synaptic transmission of excitation in the central nervous system. A large series of works by A.V. Waldman is devoted to the pharmacology of emotional stress, the problem of the experimental study of emotions and means of controlling them. Alisa A. Valdman sister of V.A. Waldman, a pathologist, an employee of the All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine, studied the role of nervous and hormonal regulation in the development of the infectious process, which she studied on a paratyphoid model for enteric infection in laboratory animals.

Mikhail israelevich was born on December 20, 1924 in Minsk. He lived in the cities of Borisov, Gomel and Vitebsk. With the beginning of the war he went to the Caucasus, where in 1941 he entered the North Ossetian medical Institute (Vladikavkaz), moving to study in Novosibirsk, Yaroslavl. From 1944 to 1951 he worked as an assistant of the departments of normal anatomy, topographic anatomy and operative surgery, hospital surgery of Yaroslavl medical Institute, doctor of the regional station of sanitary aviation. In the summer of 1947 he worked in the hospitals of Kologriv, Rybinsk. From 1954 to 1955-assistant of the Department of operative surgery and topographic anatomy of the 1st Moscow medical Institute, and then associate Professor at the course of surgery of pulmonary tuberculosis at the Department of tuberculosis of the Central Institute of advanced medical. From 1958 to 1962-head of the Department of surgery of the small circle of blood circulation in the research Institute of experimental biology and medicine of the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk), from 1963 thoracic surgery research Institute of clinical and experimental surgery of the USSR Ministry of health (now rsch RAMS), which led for 18 years. Perelman author of 24 monographs and books, 32 chapters in domestic and foreign manuals and books, 35 articles in encyclopedias, 250 articles in the Central domestic and foreign journals, author or consultant of 9 scientific and educational films, was the supervisor of 68 candidate and scientific consultant in the preparation of 25 doctoral dissertations. Mikhail was the editor-in-chief of the journal "problems of tuberculosis and lung diseases", Deputy editor-in-chief of the "medical referral journal", a member of the editorial Board of the multi-volume edition of "International Trendsin" General Thoracic Surgery", magazines of" world of Surgery"," Pulmonology "and"world of Surgery". In 2013, Mikhail Perelman died and was buried at Novodevichy cemetery.

Mayat Valentin Sergeevich - surgeon, doctor of medical sciences (1946), professor (1950), Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, Hero of Socialist Labor (1969), laureate of the USSR State Prize (1976, 1987).Mayat Valentin Sergeevich was born in 1903. After the termination of the 2nd Moscow University he worked in a hospital surgical clinic (since 1925), served in the Red Army (since 1939). During the Great Patriotic War - the leading surgeon of the Penza evacuation hospital No. 1649 (since October 1941), the chief surgeon of the evacuation hospitals in the Penza region (from August 1942 to August 1945). In 1949, V.S. Majat worked in the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the surgical department of the government hospital, while lecturing at Peking University. After returning from the PRC, he was elected the head of the Department of Hospital Surgery of the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute (1953), simultaneously (1952-1964) was deputy chief surgeon and then chief surgeon of the 4th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Health of the USSR (until 1974). He developed a new method of phalloplasty, the classification of gunshot joint injuries. He prepared 14 doctors and 47 candidates of medical sciences, published over 250 scientific papers, author of 3 monographs, including on the topic: "Carotid artery surgery" (1966), which was awarded the NN Prize. Burdenko. Honorary member of the Moscow (1973), Georgian (1976), All-Union (1978) scientific surgical societies, a member of the International Society of Surgeons. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labor, the Second World War, several foreign orders and medals.

The main milestones of the life and creativity of Professor S.R. Mirotvortsev are described in the article. Little-known facts from the professor's biography are noted. He was rewarded with two gold medals for his students' works: “Vessels and nerves of sinews of the human foot” (with his student V.P. Vorobyov) and “Dislocations of bones of the wrist.” Notably, during the Russian-Japanese war, S.R. Mirotvortsev spent 11 months in the besieged Port Arthur and remained with the wounded who were taken prisoner by the Japanese there. From 1905 to 1914, S.R. Mirotvortsev worked in the Military Medical Academy (Saint Petersburg), initially under the leadership of Professor S.P. Fedorov and then as assistant for Professor V.A. Oppel. From 1914 until the end of his life, S.R. Mirotvortsev worked in Saratov, in the Department of General Surgery; beginning in 1920, he was a member of the fa­culty of the surgical clinic. From 1922 to 1928, S.R. Mirotvortsev was the rector of Saratov University. In the period of the Great Patriotic War, he was the chief surgeon of Saratov and the Saratov region. S.R. Mirotvortsev published approximately 150 scientific works regarding questions of clinical and field surgery. In 1908, he demonstrated the first transplantation of ureters in the rectum and defended a doctoral dissertation (1909) on this subject. Broad popularity was gained by his work regarding malignant new growths, particularly sarcomas of tubular bones. S.R. Mirotvortsev developed methods of unilateral closure of the large intestine, determined the plasticity of the sealing gland of the meninx, and processed burn wounds with potassium permanganate solution. S.R. Mirotvortsev suggested the use of the hemostatic properties of catgut for local cessation of bleeding from parenchymatous bodies and channels within the meninx. His numerous works on field surgery provided statistical analysis of 180 000 cases involving gunshot wounds; these were especially valuable during World War I (1914–1918). Notably, the Department of Faculty Surgery of the Saratov Medical Institute, as well as a street in Saratov, carries the name of S.R. Mirotvortsev. He was awarded the Labour Red Banner, the Red Star, and numerous medals.

The article is dedicated to the memory of the famous military and civilian physiologist, hygienist, doctor Boris Savin. Savin was born on January 9, 1920, passed the Great Patriotic War, from 1946 to 1975 he served in the Kirov Military-Medical Academy, where he defended his PhD and doctoral dissertations, he received the academic rank of Professor and was justly recognized as one of the leading figures in aviation medicine, who devoted his studies to the problem of impact overloads and hyperosmotic on the central nervous system and the organism as a whole. In 1976 he headed the radiofrequency electromagnetic waves laboratory of the Institute of Occupational hygiene and professional diseases of the USSR Academy of medical Sciences and worked there for 20 years. During the years at the Institute, he has made a significant contribution to improving the hygienic regulation of electromagnetic fields occupational exposure to workers electromagnetic safety ensure. Developed under his leadership, the principles and criteria for electromagnetic fields standardization, control and protection against them, based on dose-effective dependencies of the factor's human health effects. These principles still serve as the basis for systematic solution to the problems of persons occupationally associated with electromagnetic fields sources maintenance and operation health state adverse changes prevention.
