AbstractMouthwashes are an effective complementary method in the biofilm prevention and chemical control, when the practice of mechanical removal is insufficient. Among the active compounds most used in antiseptics are chlorhexidine, cetylpyridinium chloride, triclosan and essential oils. In order to reduce undesirable effects, such as teeth and restorations staining and the supragingival calculus formation, observed mainly after use for long periods, natural products of plant origin have been extensively studied and incorporated into oral hygiene formulations. Commonly used as a functional food or spice in world gastronomy, Coriandrum sativum (C. sativum), popularly known as coriander, is a natural therapeutic resource with several properties, including antifungal and antioxidant ones. Thus, the objective of this study was to carry out a literature review of articles published in the last 10 years that relate natural products, dentistry and C. sativum, in order to understand the role of naturally occurring agents with potential therapeutic applications in the dental fields, as well as to evaluate the application of C. sativum in the treatment of oral diseases. Therefore, a bibliographic search was carried out in the ScienceDirect and PubMed databases, obtaining 20 articles. It was possible to confirm the antifungal properties and the mode of action of the essential oil from C. sativum in Candida species, as well as its relatively low cytotoxicity in human cells. These findings should encourage further studies for the development of mouthwashes based on C. sativum as an alternative to mouthwashes available on the market. Keywords: Dentistry. The present study was carried out to relate the role of natural products in the metabolism of an increasingly prevalent disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus. At present, in addition to the pharmacological resources, an attempt is being made to treat diabetes mellitus with natural products. We carried out a systematic review of studies focusing on the role of natural products on diabetes mellitus treatment. The bibliographic search was done through Medline (Pubmed) and Web of Science. From 193 records, the title and summary of each were examined according to the criteria and whether they met the selection criteria. A total of 15 articles were included; after reviewing the literature, it is apparent that the concept of natural products is ambiguous as no clear boundary has been established between what is natural and what is synthetic, therefore we feel that a more explicit definition of the concept of “natural product” is needed. Gut microbiota is a promising therapeutic target in the treatment of diabetes. Therefore, it would be necessary to work on the relationship between the microbiome and the benefits in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Treatment based solely on these natural products is not currently recommended as more studies are needed.

Introduction: The spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been described as a valuable neuromodulating procedure in the management of chronic and medically untreated neuropathic pain. Although, many studies have discussed the use of this technique, a question still remains regarding its efficacy in different medical conditions with different etiology in the long term. The aim of this paper is to discuss the risks, complications, cost-effectiveness and results of SCS in patients affected by chronic neuropathic pain based on the comprehensive literature review. Methods: Bibliographic search of references from 1950 to 2016 using the databases MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO, PubMed, and applied language as selection criteria, choosing preferably recent articles written in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Results: Based on literature review, SCS is a safe, reversible, adjustable and nondestructive surgical procedure demonstrating a significant effect in the reduction of pain intensity and improvement in quality of life in these patients. Furthermore, in spite of the initial high cost to its application, SCS has been associated with lower rates of complications and high rates of cost-effectiveness when compared to standard therapies. Conclusion: Although used in medical conditions with different etiology, the procedure is still an effective and a cost-effective approach to neuropathic pain, mainly in patients affected by failed back pain syndrome (FBSS) and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).

The psychosomatic term, report to the item of psychological origin of certain organic diseases, affective repercussions of the state of physical disease on the individual and studies of mind-body relationships with emphasis on the explanation of somatic pathology. The term can also be understood, as an ideology about health, falling ill and about health practices, is a field of research on these facts and, at the same time, practice. Thus, the objective of this work is to discuss, from a literature review, the psychosomatic manifestations that occur in the development phases in the context of the psychology area. The study is methodologically based on the literature review. For this work, the bibliographic search of articles indexed to the VHL Portal (Virtual Library in Saude) and in the Web of Science was carried out. The disease is often an escape from a conflict situation or appears due to the need for attention and affection, need to be cared for. The psychosomatic approach decreases treatment time, avoids unnecessary complementary tests and abbreviates the patient's suffering.

This article presents a survey on studies on salary floor and teacher remuneration between 2008 and 2021[3]. In this sense, the literature review on the salary floor of the magisterium is a fundamental piece. To this end, the methodology developed for bibliographic search is based on the scientific and careful use of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) theory – in Portuguese, Práticas Baseadas em Evidências (PBE). It is a state of the art that cuts out one of the most decisive factors for the transformation of the educational reality: studies on salary floor and remuneration of Brazilian teachers. In this study, another contradiction between emphatic or grandilohot discourses in defense of the valorization of teaching and the practices of political and educational authorities is exposed, also calling us the low production of monographs, dissertations and doctoral theses, in the academic world, on salary floor and teacher remuneration. Even with the proclamation of the appreciation of the teacher as a decisive factor for ensuring the quality of education, more than ten years have passed since the establishment of the salary floor, however, about 60% of Brazilian municipalities have not yet implemented it and this does not have the expected reverberation in academic studies.

Oral disorders of the dog represent for veterinarians a medical challenge and an important field of interest from the economical point of view. Although many epidemiological studies on dental diseases in beagles bred under controlled conditions have been realized, information on frequency of these alterations in populations of pet dogs, especially in Central Europe, is far from complete. The aim of our study was to assess the prevalence of the most common oral diseases in dogs in a Czech urban region. A total number of 408 dogs, presented at a private Czech urban veterinary hospital for different reasons, were analyzed. Site specificity and severity of dental diseases were assessed using modified indexing systems. Dental alterations could be found in 348 out of 408 dogs (85.3%). The most frequent diseases were (i) periodontitis (60.0% of 408 dogs), (ii) calculus (61.3%), (iii) missing teeth (33.8%), and (iv) abnormal attrition (5.9%). Furthermore, single cases of caries, tumors and enamel hypoplasia could be observed. Periodontitis occurred preferentially in the upper jaw of small dogs and increased with age. The labial/buccal side of teeth was affected more severely than the lingual/palatinal side. Differences between left and right side could not be observed. Malocclusion and insufficient oral hygiene care seem to predispose to periodontitis. As periodontitis, dental calculus occurred preferentially in small dogs and increased with age. The prevalence of calculus formation did not differ between left and right side. However, the upper jaw showed a higher degree of affection than the mandible. On the labial/buccal side of the teeth, a thicker calculus layer could be observed than lingually/palatinally. Interestingly, the degree of calculus formation and of periodontitis did not correlate in all cases, supporting the hypothesis that supragingival calculus per se is not an irritant. The pattern of tooth loss was the same between left and right side and between upper and lower jaw. Most commonly, the first premolars were missing followed by incisors and other premolars and molars. Tooth loss for other reasons than periodontitis and single cases of tooth agenesis has not been detected in our study. (Abnormal) tooth wear was detected only in older dogs and affected mostly canines and premolars of large breeds. Age estimation based on dental attrition should be carried out with care, because tooth wear depends on keeping conditions and feeding of the dog. Our study confirmed the high prevalence of oral diseases in dogs. Veterinarians could improve the effectiveness of treatment concentrating their diagnostic efforts on age groups and types of teeth at highest risk, as assessed in this and other reports.

AbstractAntiresorptive drugs operate in the bone metabolism modulation and are widely used in the treatment of bone metastases and bone losses related to hormonal deficiency. Although this therapy shows satisfactory results, there are adverse effects associated with its use, such as osteonecrosis of the jaws. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) is, therefore, a serious and challenging condition with important implications in dentistry. The aim was to conduct a narrative literature review on anti-resorptive drugs and their latest repercussions on the maxillary bones. The review was carried out through a bibliographic search using Decs/Mesh descriptors of interest, in Portuguese and English, in the PubMed, Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Scielo databases. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 33 studies were selected for analysis. It can be noticed that therapy with anti-resorptive agents is complex, especially in dental practice, since MRONJ is a complication that is difficult to manage. Regarding the therapeutic options, these are divided into conservative, surgical or adjuvant therapy, however, there are no protocols in the literature, and there is no consistency regarding the indication of the suspension of the drug administration - "Drug Holiday". Thus, it is important that the multidisciplinary team seeks strategies that minimize complications and promote control over the use of these drugs. In addition, there is a need for investigations that contribute with guidelines for the management and control of adverse effects resulting from therapy with antiresorptive drugs. Keywords: Bone Density Conservation Agents. Diphosphonates. Denosumab. Bisphosphonate-Associated Osteonecrosis of the Jaw.
