We conducted our study in the Common Tern colony (STH) located on an island in the middle Vistula River course, at the height of the city of Dęblin (km 393–394 of the waterway), in 2017. Our goal was to investigate some aspects of the biology and reproductive ecology of this species. Due to the fact that STH breeds both in single-species as well as in two- or multi-species colonies, in associations with Little Terns (Sternula albifrons), Black-Headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) (LAR) and/or Mew Gulls (Larus canus), we wanted to investigate whether the neighborhood of other species (in this case LAR) affected hatching success and chick survival in STH. Our results clearly show that the presence of breeding terns in the neighborhood of the LAR colony was not accidental and/or caused by the lack of space on the island and/or the possibility of nesting elsewhere. The height of nesting site, type of nesting habitat, clutch size, mean egg volume and mean egg mass of these STH pairs did not differ significantly from those that formed a single species colony, on the same island but several hundred meters away. However, STH nests in the neighborhood of the LAR colony were established much earlier and both the hatching success and chick survival of STH during the early-chick stage were twice as high. Thus, we can conclude that the LAR colony could provide an effective protection against predation of crows, magpies and gulls, dangers which accounted for the vast majority of STH nest failures in the year of our study.

The purpose of this chapter is to present a new development path towards greening the city center of Warsaw in the context of the increasing density of building development in recent years. After the process of urban sprawl, there has been a tendency to concentrate buildings, especially in the city center. Currently, a new idea and the need to improve the climate in the city is being born. The aim is to convert dispersed green areas into a continuous network of corridors and green spaces, comprising the city center on both sides of the Vistula River. The future structure of green areas in the central part of Warsaw will be built as an element of bioeconomy. According to this new pattern of urban greenery, larger green enclaves will be connected by corridors created out of necessity along densely built-up streets. Such elements as green walls, green roofs with decorative greenery and food crops, pocket greenery, as well as urban farms (e.g., algae energy generation) will complement buildings, foster healthy environment, and create the opportunity to enjoy pastimes.

At present, the problems of local urban regulation of the riverine territories are becoming increasingly relevant for Russian Federation. The article describes the main issues of organization the local self-government in Russia. The modern foreign experience of local urban regulation of the riverine territories in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Belgium (Walloon region, Flemish region and Brussels-Capital Region), the Netherlands and Poland are studied. Possible options for such regulation are described: governmental organizations, community projects, local development strategies. Strategies are carried out through the formulation and development of ideas at the local level and the filing an application in search of cooperation with the municipality and private business. Options for local participation in the development of riverine areas are considered. An example is given of the “Leader” method based on cooperation of the state, public, private and non-profit sectors, which form a local development group, a local action group for the development of territories along the river Göta älv in Sweden. Municipal strategy of landscape interests in the city and around the city of Aalborg (Denmark) is analyzed. A brief description is given to the Weser River Basin Community (The Flussgebietsgemeinschaft Weser (FGG Weser)) in Germany. Examples of existing inter-municipal non-governmental projects in Poland and activities aimed at unlocking the tourist and cultural potential of riverine areas of Vistula river are studied. Conclusions on the possibility of forming a single inter-municipal authority that will coordinate the development of the riverine territories are drawn.

The aim of the study is to present the implemented “smart” solutions and the developed indicators of their measurement in the context of the city of Częstochowa (Poland), as well as a participant in the “Benchmarking—we are looking for the best smart city solutions”. In order to achieve the assumed goal, a traditional review of the literature on the subject in the field of “smart city” was carried out. Then, the methodological assumptions related to developing a model set of indicators for cities participating in the program have been presented. In addition, a comparative analysis of the obtained indicators values for cities, Częstochowa and Bydgoszcz, has been carried out in the scope of one exemplary measure. The proposed research procedure can be used to analyze and evaluate cities in the country, as well as to select alternative solutions in the context of other urban features. Due to the fact that other cities in Poland will also participate in the study, the significance of this work will have a wide impact. The research presented in the article is only a part of an intended larger initiative in which several dozen Polish cities will take part.

This study presents research on communities of Pterostichus spp. beetles found in 2001 and 2003 in three types of wetland: elm and ash riparian forest (RF), poplar monoculture (P) and extensively managed meadow (M). All sample plots were located near the city of Bydgoszcz (53?, 9?N18?E) on the Vistula River floodplain. During both years, 11 species of genus Pterostichus spp. were found. In 2001, from all sample plots 886 beetles were collected; in 2003, 5 963. In both years, most specimens came from plot RF (636 in 2001 and 3 544 in 2003). From plot P, 1 862 specimens of Pterostichus spp. beetles were collected and from plot M, 807 specimens. No statistically significant influences of the marshland habitat type and year of research on communities of Pterostichus spp. beetles were revealed.

Every child has the right to survival in terms of the nation and state, children are the future of the nation and the next generation of the ideals of the nation so that they have the right to survive, develop, grow, participate and are entitled to protection from acts of violence and discrimination as well as civil rights and freedoms. The high rate of exploitation of minors in Pekanbaru is one of the things that makes us pay attention to the splendor of the development side of the city of Pekanbaru which leads to civility. The black side of exploitation of underage children makes as citizens we are obliged to socialize the existence of the Child Protection Act, especially on the threat of criminal acts of employing children. We can also socialize human rights to parents. Early prevention at the family level can reduce the effects of children becoming victims of exploitation. There is also a formulation of the problem raised in this research which is "What is the background of the formation of the exploitation of basic age children in Pekanbaru City?". The research procedure used in this research is a qualitative method by collecting information by associating as many as 15 informants, namely 7 key informants and 8 informants whose results from the study were analyzed using the Atlas application system. IT is useful for classifying information experienced in the field. The results that the author has are the presence of actors who are motivated to carry out exploitation, appropriate targets for exploitation and the lack of supervision regarding the exploitation of these children. And the aspects behind the formation of exploitation of minors are economic aspects, coercion from parents, culture and the absence of care. In order to minimize this problem, it is hoped that the related service and the Civil Service Police Unit will carry out patrols more often and residents will participate in overcoming these problems.
