Given the application of a multiple regression and artificial neural networks (ANNs), this paper describes development of models for predicting surface roughness, linking an arithmetic mean deviation of a surface roughness to a torque as an input variable, in the process of drilling enhancement steel EN 42CrMo4, thermally treated to the hardness level of 28 HRC, using cruciform blade twist drills made of high speed steel with hardness level of 64–68 HRC. The model was developed using process parameters (nominal diameters of twist drills, speed, feed, and angle of installation of work pieces) as input variables varied at three levels by Taguchi design of experiment and measured experimental data for a torque and arithmetic mean deviation of a surface roughness for different values of flank wear of twist drills. The comparative analysis of the models results and the experimental data, acquired for the inputs at the moment when a wear span reaches a limit value corresponding to a moment of the drills blunting, demonstrates that the neural network model gives better results than the results obtained in the application of multiple linear and nonlinear regression models.

Electrohydraulic forming of sheet metals is characterized by the usage of large transient hydraulic pressure generated in underwater current discharges. Pulsed power underwater discharges are often categorized as being non-repeatable in terms of pressure map replication. The work described here presents the improvements made in terms of pressure stabilization based on process parameter optimization pertaining to impact electrohydraulic forming. The work consists of a comparative study showing the differences obtained in terms of pressure fields, when discharges initiated by high-voltage breakdown (wireless discharges) and initiated by copper and aluminium wires at otherwise equal test conditions are compared, for a conical discharge chamber. Characteristic pressure maps belonging to the three analyzed discharge conditions are presented and the criteria for a quantitative comparison are set: maximum pressure value, relative pressure scatter and arithmetic mean deviation for a test pressure field. The maximum pressure value characterises the limitation in the sheet material thickness that could be formed at this pressure. For all 3 types of tests the obtained maximum pressure value is nearly equal with a little bit higher level for discharges initiated by aluminium wire. The relative pressure scatter provides information about uniformity of the pressure distribution along loaded area. While wireless tests showed low uniformity with average relative pressure scatter of 33 %, the application of copper and aluminium wire reduced non-uniformity down to 28 and 24 % respectively. The most important effect of the wire introduction has to do with the great increase of stability (repeatability) of pressure fields observed, characterised by a decrease of the arithmetic mean deviation of pressure along a pressure loaded area.

The Püspökladány statistical sub-region is geographically located in Hajdú-Bihar county’s south-west corner, in the area called Nagy-Sárrét. The tourism of the sub-region has been highly determined by the proximity of Hortobágy National Park and the presence of thermal water, one of the most important resources of the region. As Hajdú-Bihar county – especially Debrecen, Hajdúszoboszló and Hortobágy – possesses these attractive factors as well, in the Püspökladány sub-region rural tourism could be an important means of catching the interests of – mostly Hungarian – tourists. In the course of this research, my objectives were to introduce the rural hosts of the sub-region, the main features and problems of rural hospitality as an enterprise and the characteristics and activities of rural tourist – from the view of the hosts.I chose questionnaires as the method of the investigation, and evaluated them with the help of SPSS and Microsoft Excel software. During the evaluation, I calculated distribution, arithmetic mean, deviation and carried out significance-analysis.The investigations confirmed my presumption, i.e. rural tourism has not gained ground yet in the Püspökladány sub-region. This statement is proved by the fact that I completed only 8 questionnaires in a sub-region with 13 settlements, where rural host activity concentrates on 3 settlements. The results of the questionnaire-evaluation prove the aforesaid.

The impact of the height ratio of fine-grain abrasive disks and coarse grinding ones included in a combined tool upon roughness of the surface ground is considered. There are drawn dependence diagrams of the arithmetic mean deviation of the ground surface profile in the function of independent factors of the process. On the basis of the multi-factor experiment carried out there is defined a ratio of heights of grinding disks mentioned ensuring a minimum value of the micro-geometry of the surface worked.

The criteria of estimating the condition of the inner surface of water and wastewater pipelines are considered and appraised. In particular, the feasibility of using equivalent roughness Кэ coefficient as such a criterion is substantiated. Two main methods of determining Кэ parameter are presented and described: with the help of hydraulic experiments with subsequent processing of the results by Prandtl and Colebrook White equations direct measurement by a proficorder of the arithmetic mean deviation of the profile of the inner surface of the pipe from the midline Ra with the subsequent conversion to Кэ using the empirical dependence obtained by A. Ia. Dobromyslov. An assessment of the reliability of the results obtained by these methods is given. The feasibility of developing a standard regulating the procedure of determining the parameter Кэ and the mandatory in-process monitoring of it are considered.

Purpose. To investigate the structure and irregularity of the capsulotomy cutting edges created by two femtosecond (FS) laser platforms in comparison with manual continuous circular capsulorhexis (CCC) using environmental scanning electron microscopy (eSEM).Methods. Ten anterior capsulotomies were obtained using two different FS laser cataract platforms (LenSx,n=5, and Victus,n=5). In addition, five manual CCC (n=5) were obtained using a rhexis forceps. The specimens were imaged by eSEM (FEI Quanta 400, OR, USA). Objective metrics, which included the arithmetic mean deviation of the surface (Sa) and the root-mean-square deviation of the surface (Sq), were used to evaluate the irregularity of both the FS laser capsulotomies and the manual CCC cutting edges.Results. Several microirregularities were shown across the FS laser capsulotomy cutting edges. The edges of manually torn capsules were shown, by comparison of Sa and Sq values, to be smoother (P<0.05) than the FS laser capsulotomy edges.Conclusions. Work is needed to understand whether the FS laser capsulotomy edge microirregularities, not seen in manual CCC, may act as focal points for the concentration of stress that would increase the risk of capsular tear during phacoemulsification as recently reported in the literature.

Abstract The aim of this paper is the evaluation of capability of roughness measuring device SURFCOM 1900SD3. After elaboration of theoretical part of this paper, which is focused on literary study in the evaluation of measuring devices, experimental work was proposed in which conditions for measuring and evaluation of measured data are defined. After this definition of measuring conditions, experimental work was performed. For evaluation of roughness measuring device, 30 measurements on the gauge sample with exactly determined value of arithmetic mean deviation of the profile Ra was proposed. Evaluation was carried out using statistical methods, namely coefficients to define measuring device capability. The work contributed significantly to the assessment of capability of roughness measuring device SURFCOM 1900SD3, since it was required by practice.
