Background: The current COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to adopt online teaching for medical learning. While there are undoubtedly benefits that online learning provides, the sudden transition to online teaching presented different challenges to the students as well as the teachers. The aim of this study is to explore the perception and experiences of medical undergraduates on online classes in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 166 medical students in NEIGRIHMS who had exposure to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. A semi-structured questionnaire was distributed after getting informed consent. SPSS 21 version software for Windows was used for data entry and analysis.Results: Eight in 10 of the students do not prefer online learning. Moreover, they believe that practical skills will not develop through online learning. They cite internet connectivity, device-related and software- related issues as the main difficulties they faced during online classes.Conclusions: More than two-thirds of the students do not prefer online learning. The institution can be advised to provide the students with adequate skills and knowledge coupled with appropriate technology to address the issue.

Abstract Background Euthanasia is a topic of intense ethical debate and it is illegal in most countries at present, including Sri Lanka. The aim of this descriptive cross-sectional study of medical students and practicing doctors was to explore the acceptance of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide (PAS), and factors influencing this opinion. Methods A customised online questionnaire which explored opinions on euthanasia was administered to first and final year medical undergraduates in University of Colombo and practicing doctors with more than 5 years of work experience at The National Hospital of Sri Lanka. Attitudes on euthanasia and PAS were also assessed with the attitudes towards euthanasia (ATE) Scale, which is a 10-item questionnaire. Results A total of 425 individuals responded (males: 178, 42%, age: median – 27 years), which included 143 (33.6%) first-year medical undergraduates, 141 (33.2%) final-year medical undergraduates and 141 (33.2%) practicing doctors. More participants (200, 47.1%) favoured legalizing euthanasia than those directly opposing it (110, 25.9%), but a significant proportion (27%) remained undecided. The mean scores of ATE questionnaire from the whole sample were generally unfavourable towards euthanasia/PAS. Accepting euthanasia as an option for oneself (p =  < 0.001) was the strongest predictor of favouring euthanasia/PAS or supporting its legalization. Conclusion In this cross-sectional survey, more respondents supported legalisation of euthanasia in Sri Lanka than those openly opposing it. Yet, a significant minority that responded as “undecided” for legalisation, were more likely to have unfavourable ATE.

Introduction: Medical students are more prone to suffer from various physiological and psychologicalproblems but rather than seeking for formal health care, they tend to do informal consultation andoften practice self medication. Thus, this study aimed to find out the health seeking behavior ofmedical students. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was done among first and second year medicalstudents of a teaching hospital from September to November 2019 after taking ethical approvalfrom Institutional Review Committe. Total of 235 students were included in the study and selfadministered questionnaire was used. Data entry and analysis was done using Statistical Packagefor Social Sciences version 20.0. Results: Among 235 students who participated in the study, 172 (73%) reported having healthproblems in the last 12 months, and fever and headache were commonly reported by 21 (13%) and 18(50%) students, respectively. Total of 112 (65%) students visited hospital/clinic for health problemsand reason given for not visiting hospital/clinic was 12 (28%) thinking that the problem was minor.University hospital was the most preferred place 189 (80%) during health problem and parents werethe first people for consultation 116 (49%). Mean duration of absenteeism was 2.17±4.1 days and 167(88%) visited hospital more than five times. Conclusions: Health problems were common among students and most of them required multiplehospital visits. Many students seeked for health from hospital/ clinic but informal consultationswere also seen.

Introduction: The outbreak of coronavirus disease in Nepal led medical colleges to suspend in person teaching-learning activities and ultimately online platform was introduced to deliver the contents of medical education. The objective of this study was to describe the perception of medical students towards online teaching-learning introduced during the COVID-19 outbreak in Nepal. Methods: An online survey using a descriptive cross-sectional study design was carried out among 515 undergraduate medical students currently enrolled in medical colleges in Nepal. A semi-structured questionnaire in Google form was utilized to collect data. The link of the Google form was sent to the potential respondents through email and social media. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used to analyze data in SPSS vs20. Ethical approval was sought from Nepal Health Research Council to conduct this study, and digital informed consent was taken from study respondents. Results: The overall score of perception of online teaching-learning was 17.61±7.19, which indicated many problems in this method of teaching-learning. The mean score of perception of online teaching-learning was found to be different across sex, location of enrolled medical colleges, having a personal electronic device, having an internet connection at residence, having separate room/space for attending online classes, and self-rated computer skills. Moreover, only 28 (5.4%) of respondents had perceived online teaching-learning as a better method of delivering content of medical curricula. Conclusions: Surveyed medical students in Nepal were found to perceive many problems in online teaching-learning. Moreover, management and faculty members need to take the necessary measures for enhancing the online teaching-learning quality.

: The Global disease (COVID-19 pandemic) has impacted our lives in various ways. Online teaching is the strange routine for studying platforms to continue with the process of educating students, Online classes have become a key component in the continuity of education.: 1. This study aims to rank the usefulness of online teaching compared to classroom conventional teaching 2. Socioeconomic parameters related to online teaching in a medical college: The study is a cross-sectional study done on medical students. A questionnaire was prepared listing the various ways in which they discern online teaching trying to cope up during the pandemic.: After the institutional Ethics committee clearance, online cross-sectional study was done on the medical students where from the 2 and 3 year. This online survey was done between 10May 2021- 10 June 2021, A total number of 211 students participated out of 250, after completion of 18 months of online classes. A Set of 15 self -designed questionnaire based on 5 point Likert scale was given to the students to rank the effectiveness through online class usefulness levels and satisfaction levels on various parameters. Students were also asked about the demographic factors. The data was analyzed using software SPSS software The study results shows that online classes is less helpful in five parameters and equally helpful in five parameters but was not at all superior to conventional methods, we can come to the interpretation that students think that classroom teaching cannot be replaced by online teaching. We can conclude that online studies can only be a supplement and cannot be an alternate for the established order of learning

: COVID-19 is referred as pandemic due to its severity and fierceness also as the greatest global health crisis since after centuries in human civilization. This made many schools and colleges to remain shut down for an indefinite time as the only option left to prevent transmission of virus in the institutions. At the same time, teaching concepts have changed with a similar speed than the evolution of the Internet, social media and digital technology. In these circumstances online teaching has become the only option left to fulfill the academic necessities of the students. This study will help to find out the students' opinion and attitude towards online classes during COVID – 19 Pandemic. : An Anonymous Cross sectional study is conducted among undergraduate medical students of various colleges affiliated to DRNTRUHS, AP regarding their opinion and attitude towards online teaching classes conducted during Covid 19 pandemic period by sharing the link for Google document. 432 under graduate medical students were participated in the study. 313 participants (72.41%) opined that online teaching is helpful. Majority of participants opined that online teaching is helpful (72.41%); comfortable (61.63%); they are able to interact (73.7%). 68.74% of participants have troubles to attend online classes. Very less participants (13.79%) showed their preference for online classes after this period. All the participants strongly mentioned that their practical skills will be affected badly due to this type of teaching.The deadly and infectious disease Covid-19 has deeply affected the educational system globally. In our present study majority of students strongly opined that online teaching is helpful; they are also comfortable and able to interact with their faculty also. When COVID 19 resolves, transformative changes are expected in medical education through the use of emergent technology.

Abstract Background Medical students are supposed to utilize critical thinking (CT) to resolve problems in healthcare settings. And the complex clinical environment requires effective collaboration and communication. Students with higher emotional intelligence (EI) are more sensitive and can cope with the interpersonal communication better. Conflict is also inevitable in the medical workplace. This study aimed to evaluate the levels of CT, EI and conflict management modes (CMM) of the medical undergraduates, explore the correlation between CT and EI, CMM, and provide a theoretical evidence basis for the medical education. Methods A cross-sectional study of medical students from Jilin University was conducted using a questionnaire containing three parts: Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version (CTDI-CV), Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) and Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory-II (ROCI-II). Demographic data relating to gender, grade and specialty were also collected. Data was analysed using T-tests, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results A total of 282 (95.39% response rate) medical undergraduates participated in this study. Students had a positive level of CT (Mean (SD) =281.12(27.40)). There was a positive correlation between the overall CT skills and the overall EI competencies (P < 0.01). For each dimension of ROCI-II, the total CTDI-CV score was significantly positively associated with integration and compromise scores (p < 0.01), significantly negatively associated with domination and compliance scores (p < 0.01) but not with avoidance score. The integration, perceived mood, compliance, dominance, and self-emotional regulation were good predictors of overall CT (adjusted R2 = 0.355). Conclusions Our findings showed medical undergraduates’ CT had significant correlations with EI and CMM. In other words, it was possible that the development of EI and conflict management skills might improve medical students’ CT. Therefore, further study is needed to uncover how educators can effectively foster EI and conflict management abilities to enhance the level of CT. BACKGROUND: There has been a lack of data on injuries in young adults, including university students, in particular medical students. AIM: The current study was conducted to explore the percentage, and related factors of injuries among a group of medical students, who constitute an important risk group for accidents and injuries. METHODS: This exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted in Kasr Al-ainy Medical School. A convenient sample of medical students was chosen. 1300 survey questionnaires were distributed along all academic years, 807 from them were completely retrieved. The questionnaire form was adopted from “Health behavior survey among university students in low- and middle-income countries questionnaire.” Data entry and analysis were carried out using SPSS 21.0. RESULTS: One-quarter reported having a form of injury last year. Falling was the most nominated cause of injuries by the participant students (5,31.3%). Only those who “perceived” their general health as “well” reported being injured significantly more than those who perceived their general health as poor, with a p value = 0.006 and odds ratio of 1.6 (1.1–2.2). Taking drugs was the only factor significantly determining how the injury happened; whether it is intentional or unintentional with a p = 0.01 highlighting that about one-third (5, 31.3%) of those who were intentionally injured were taking drugs. CONCLUSION: Two factors were identified which will increase the understanding of public health of injuries in university communities to design programs for injury prevention programs specifically targeting medical students.

Aims: The aim of the current study is to find out the quality of life among the medical undergraduates who are addicted to cellphone use. Study Design: Cross-sectional study Place and Duration of Study: Study was conducted in private and public sector medical and dental colleges of Karachi from January 2019 to September 2019. Methodology: The data had been collected through a set of questionnaire, which was pre-designed. Those students were included who were using smartphones for pleasure, communication or study purpose The data was entered into the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. For numerical variables mean with standard deviation were calculated and for categorical variables frequency and percentages were calculated. Results: The mean age of the students surveyed was found to be 21.2 ±1.82 years. Majority of our research candidates were addicted to cell phone use. It was noted that more than 6 hours’ screen time daily was 29.75% while very unfortunate observation of less than 1-hour screen time was found in 6.25% of study participants. About 38.25% of our participants although addicted to screens agreed that this addiction is causing them to ignore their important things like study or family. Cell phone addiction is worsening day by day as 37.5% medical students confessed that they feel stressed when they do not use cell phones. About 76.75% medical students despite of being addicted to screens, confessed that this is causing them different health and social problems which they feel should be removed just by giving lesser time to the applications. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the medical undergraduates who are addicted to their cellphones, having poor quality of life which is negatively affecting their health as well as their studies. There is a need to accept the problem and find out the best solution for it. Students should be aware of the effects of cellphone addiction on the quality of life.

Background: COVID-19 pandemic has caused upheaval in all aspects of our lives and education system has also faced disruptions. Medical teaching is of paramount importance as it is preparing future doctors for such emergencies. Though online teaching by the institutions and faculties has continued but it is also equally important to know the learners’ perspective, i.e.., the undergraduate medical students who have to cope-up with the change in teaching practices. To assess the perceptions of medical students regarding online learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic. To understand the problems and apprehensions faced by these students.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate medical students of a medical college in Delhi. To ensure reliable results, a sample size of 50% was decided with equal representation from students studying in different professional years of MBBS. Results: Although medical students had used online learning earlier but it was not very preferable. Students faced challenges both due to unsatisfactory learning atmosphere at home and also technological issues associated with online learning. Students are also worried about lengthening of duration of the course and inadequate clinical exposure.Conclusions: Medical education system has to be prepared for blended learning by use of resources to overcome challenges associated with technological problems so as to facilitate learning of the students.
