In this study, I provide applied examples of using cut-up poetic inquiry as an arts-based research method for analyzing erasure poetry. The erasure poetry was composed by five poet-participants and me during a sensory ethnography that explored embodied experiences of a sexual educator training program. I first overview erasure poetics in the context of sexuality education. I explain how erasure poetry as method can interrupt authoritative proclamations of truth, while also providing a technique to grapple with complex, corporeal data – central topics in sex education research. I then theorize cut-up poetic inquiry as an additional form of erasure, asking and illustrating how the processes of cut-up can distill information to enable emergent analytic insights in the context of my research. Throughout, I meditate on how erasure poetry as an arts- based research method can contribute to discussions of language, discourse, and embodiment in sex education research.

This note overviews a class activity and an assignment for engaging poetic transcription. Poetic transcription is an arts-based research method commonly employed in the analysis and representation of qualitative data. The discussion provides some background on arts-based research, poetic inquiry, and poetic transcription as research practices within the qualitative tradition. Furthermore, it shows how utilizing poetry in the classroom can help develop empathy and analytical skills as well as facilitate collaboration, creativity, and student engagement. This teaching note includes an examination of the students’ impressions using poetic transcription and links poetic transcription to critical pedagogical practices for teaching and learning sociology. I conclude with a discussion that offers considerations for future practitioners.

In this paper, we explore our experiences working as team comprised of researchers, teacher, and founder and director of a sex education non-profit organisation, who have formed an intra-activist research and pedagogical assemblage to experiment with relationship and sexuality education (RSE) practices in England’s secondary schools. We draw upon phEmaterialism theory and socially engaged, participatory arts-based research methodologies and pedagogies to explore two examples of arts-based activities that have been developed to de-center humanist, male-dominated, phallocentric, penile-oriented RSE. We also demonstrate how these practices enable educators, researchers, practitioners and students to revalue and rematter feminine genitalia, and resist and refigure unsettling experiences of receiving unsolicited digital dick pics.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui penelitian tindakan kelas dengan melibatkan subjek sebanyak 39 orang mahasiswa jurusan Pendidikan Tenik Elektro Fakultas Teknik Unimed, menyangkut permasalahahan implementasi contextual teaching-learning melalui riset mini dalam perkuliahan metode penelitian pengajaran. Masalahnya adalah apakah implementasi kontekstual teaching learning melalui riset mini dapat meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa dalam membangun proposal penelitian?. Penelitian dilakukan dalam 5 siklus dengan target capaian yaitu 85% mahasiswa mencapai skor ≥ 80. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu ada peningkatan dari siklus ke siklus berikutnya, yaitu pada siklus I ada 12 orang mahasiswa (30,76%) mencapai target; pada siklus II ada 19 orang   mahasiswa (48,71%) mencapai target; Pada siklus III ada 24 orang mahasiswa (61,53%) mencapai target; Pada siklus IV terdapat sejumlah 28 orang mahasiswa (71,79%) yang mencapai target; dan pada siklus V terdapat 34 orang mahasiswa (87,17%) sudah mencapai target. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian disimpulkan bahwa implementasi contextual teaching learning melalui riset mini dapat meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa dalam membangun proposal penelitian.   Kata Kunci: Implementasi kontekstual teaching learning   Abstract: The research was conducted through action research involving subjects as many as 39 students of electrical education department of  technical faculty Unimed, concerning the problems of contextual teaching learning implementation through mini rsearch in education research method course. The formulation of this researh problem is “whether the implementation of contextual teaching learning through mini research can improve students' competencies in building research proposal?. The study was conducted in 5 cycles with a target achievement of 85% of students achieving a score of ≥ 80. The results are an increase of the cycle to the next cycle, the first cycle, there were 12 students (30.76%) targets; in the second cycle there are 19 students (48.71%) targets; In the third cycle there were 24 students (61.53%) targets; in the fourth cycle there are a number of 28 students (71.79%) to reach the target, and the cycle of V contained 34 students (87.17%) has reached the target. Based on the findings of the study concluded that the implementation of contextual teaching learning through mini research can improve the competence of students in developing research proposals.   Keywords: Contextual teaching learning implementation

Arts-based research (ABR) is a rapidly growing methodological genre. Arts-based research adapts the tenets of the creative arts in social research to make that research publicly accessible, evocative, and engaged. This chapter provides a retrospective and prospective overview of the field, including a review of some of the pioneers of arts-based research, methodological principles, and robust examples of arts-based research in different artistic genres. We include literary forms such as poetic inquiry and fiction, performative forms such as playbuilding, ethnodrama, ethnotheater and film, and visual forms such as photography, collage, art journaling, and mixed media. We note researches also use multiple art forms, and evolving and innovative forms of art. We provide suggestions for (contested) assessment criteria, such as utility, aesthetics, authenticity and valuing participatory and transformative approaches. The chapter closes with our thoughts regarding the future of the field, which includes ABR’s potential to improve public scholarship.

This article is supported by the author’s experience through a methodology created during her Ph.D. thesis ‘The experience of book’s place at the university’, also during COVID-19 restrictions. The student transformed public presentations into collaborative research workshops, where new interrelations and concepts occurred rooted in arts-based research methodologies, exploring art and education, in its scope. Cardography is an invented designation based on a/r/tography, as a creative living research methodology that uses cards as a device for a visual inquiry, considering that each book’s page is a card to be written or drawn (digital or paper), documenting the dialogic process during each research workshop. The research result contemplates an artistic object, which is displayed afterwards in university and art exhibitions. The reader is invited to follow a fil rouge alignment, inspired by a book structure, reflecting upon concepts and research methods not yet implemented at the art education doctoral course.

There is a new area flourishing within qualitative research based on methods using all forms of art: music, theatre, visual arts, and literature. In this paper we present an overview of the basic features of arts-based research; emphasizing on their meaning on education research, on the freedom of expression given to the participants in the research, and on the method the researcher applies to evaluate the collected data. We then present an arts-based research case study where the research questions relate to teachers’ reactions to the use of smartphones by students in the classroom. In this case study, teachers, especially those working on secondary education, are invited to portray their thoughts, emotions, and images that respond to these questions by painting them on a paper using markers. The findings show that the majority of the teachers are negative about the children using their smartphone in the classroom, along with evidence for teachers’ emotional response and how to confront the phenomenon.

Background : Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) plays an important role in preparing adolescents for safe, productive lives, and understanding about HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unwanted pregnancy, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and Gender inequality still pose serious risks to their well-being. Study Aim : Determine the method most instrumental in improving adolescents' knowledge about adolescent sex education and teens identify constraints in obtaining information on sex education. Methods : Stage approach to review the literature using framework Arskey and O'Malley. The framework used to manage with PEOS research questions so that the search strategy uses 5 databases, viz. Pubmed, Science Direct, Wiley, Proquest, And Ebsco with the identification of the relevant study according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Each method has its contribution in providing information and knowledge about sex education to adolescents, however the source of the greatest role in providing sex education information mostly came from digital sources both internet and TV media. The lack of role of parents and teachers to provide enough information about sex education is reflected in the results and the above discussion. Problems in adolescent sexual behavior that negatively due to inaccurate sources such as peer and the internet and added with minimal information from parents and teachers in which teenagers hoping to get information about sex education from parents and teachers.

This study aims to describe the representation of sex education in the film Dua Garis Biru by director Gina S. Noer. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research method uses Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis with two-way significance and the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth. The subjects of this study are Dara and Bima, the object of this study is a sign of sex education represented in scenes, dialogues, and characters in films. Methods of data collection by observation, literature study, interviews, and documentation. The film Dua Garis Biru tells the story of how Dara and Bima, two teenagers, must be responsible for the consequences that they did not think of before due to free sex. This film also illustrates the important role of parents in communicating information about sex to children. The results of this study indicate that there is a picture of sex education in the film Two Blue Lines. It was concluded that the side or form of sex education is displayed in scenes, dialogues, or characters that insert the importance of knowing sex education and knowing the consequences of every action related to sex. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan representasi pendidikan seks  dalam Film Dua Garis Biru karya sutradara Gina S. Noer. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Metode penelitian menggunakan Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes dengan signifikan dua arah dan pemaknaan denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Dara dan Bima, objek penelitian ini adalah tanda pendidikan seks yang direpresentasikan dalam adegan, dialog, dan karakter dalam film. Metode pengumpulan data dengan observasi, studi pustaka, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Film Dua Garis Biru bercerita tentang bagaimana Dara dan Bima, dua remaja harus bertanggung jawab atas konsekuensi yang tidak mereka pikirkan sebelumnya karena melakukan seks pranikah. Film ini juga menggambarkan pentingnya peran orang tua dalam mengkomunikasikan informasi tentang seks kepada anak. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat gambaran tentang pendidikan seks dalam film. Sisi atau bentuk pendidikan seks ditampilkan dalam cuplikan adegan, dialog, atau karakter tokoh yang menyisipkan pentingnya mengenal pendidikan seks dan mengetahui konsekuensi dari setiap perbuatan yang berhubungan dengan seks.
