This research was conducted to investigate the protective effect Polygonum minus leaves extract on the histopathological changes of kidney induced by mercuric chloride in mice (Mus musculus). Thirty male mice were divided into five groups and were administered via intragastric gavage with different treatments for 21 days. The treatment were C- (CMC Na 0.5% solution + aquadest), C+ (CMC Na 0.5% solution + 8 mg/kg bw of mercuric chloride), T1, T2, and T3 (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg bw of Polygonum minus leaves extract respectively + 8 mg/kg bw of mercuric chloride). The histopathological changes of kidney were examined by using Arshad Scoring method. Then the data was analysed using Kruskal Wallis and continued with Mann-Whitney test. The result showed Polygonum minus leaves extract could protect mice kidney from the damage effect of mercuric chloride. The best dose of Polygonum minus on this research was 400 mg/kg bw. Keywords: Polygonum minus, mercuric chloride, Mus musculus, kidney

This study was conducted to investigate the protective effect Polygonum minus leaves extract on the histopathological changes on aorta wall of mice (Mus musculus) induced by cadmium chloride. Thirty male mice were divided into five groups and were administered via intragastric gavage with different treatments for 21 days. The treatment were Negative Control (CMC Na 0.5% solution + aquadest), Positive Control (CMC Na0.5% solution + 8 mg/kg bw of mercuric chloride), Treatment 1, 2, and 3 (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg bw of Polygonum minus leaves extract respectively + 8 mg/kg bw of cadmium chloride). The microscopec examine followed analyzed by One Way ANOVA continued with Duncan test for counting the amount of foam cell and the histopathological changes of wall aorta were examined by using Ifora Scoring method was analysed using Kruskal Wallis and continued with Mann-Whitney test. The result showed Polygonum minus leaves extract could protect wall aorta of mice from the damage effect of cadmium chloride. The best dose of Polygonum minus on this research was 400 mg/kg bw.

Background: The usage of Cyclophosphamide (Cp) leads to infertility of reproductive system caused by acrolein. Acrolein can itself cause oxidative damage by depletion of cellular glutathione (GSH) by conjugation, leading to membrane disruption, DNA and mitochondrial damage and can exacerbate apoptosis, which may affect spermatogenesis. Zinc (Zn) which is constituents of superoxide dismutase, has a protective effect towards free radicals from physiological or pathologic effects to minimize the cell’s damage.  Objective: The purpose of this research was to know the effect of Zn on the spermatozoa count of Mus musculus that given Cyclophosphamide intraperitoneally (ip).Methods: In the present study, Cyclophosphamide was administered in saline 200 mg/kg 1x weekly for 5 weeks by ip route, whereas Zn was supplemented by oral route with doses of 25, 50, 100 mg/Kg/day for 5 weeks. The data were analyzed with Anova and followed by Bonferroni Test at a significant level of 5%.Results: The result of this research revealed that high Zn diet and Cp administration decrease sperm count simultaneously. It showed by the decrease of sperm count from 1490 (1 x 103)/ml sperm in control group becomes 240 (1 x 103)/ml sperm in treatment group with 100 mg/Kg of oral Zn and 200 mg/kg of CpConclusion: This research show that Zn supplement to prevent Cyclophosphamide toxic effect in spermatogenesis doesn’t have a protective effect, in fact its reduce sperm count by excess of Methallothine production and alter the spermatogenesis by reduce Cu intake from intestine.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of polypropylene residue on heated palm oil against histopathological changes of small intestine on male white rat (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain. Eighteen male white rats divided into three groups and were administered via peroral gavage with different treatments for five weeks. The treatment were Control (84 grams palm oil), P1 (84 grams palm oil with 2.3 grams plastic), and P2 (84 grams palm oil with 6.81 grams plastic). The histopathological changes of small intestine were examined by using Barthel Scoring method was analysed using Kruskal Wallis and continued with Mann-Whitney test. The result showed that were significant difference (p<0.05) between treatment groups. The worse damage of polypropylene plastic residue was 6.81 grams.

The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of arsenic trioxide on the DNA and histomorphology of testis, liver and kidney of Swiss albino mice, Mus musculus. Oral administration of arsenic trioxide induced DNA damage in the testis, liver and kidney marked by light pink staining of nuclei after Feulgen’s reaction with reduced fine chromatin. Simultaneously severe histological changes were noted like distortion of seminiferous tubules, disorganization of spermatogonia, spermatocytes and spermatids with cytoplasmic vacuolization and nuclear pycnosis in testis. There was almost disappearance of sinusoids due to disruption of hepatic plates, inflammatory cellular infiltration around central veins and cytoplasmic vacuolization in hepatocytes with large irregular nuclei in liver of treated mice. Disorganized glomeruli with distorted Bowman’s capsules and mild to severe multifocal cloudy and hydropic degeneration with necrosis of tubules were observed in the kidney of treated mice. Inference drawn from the study indicated that arsenic induced both genotoxic histotoxic lesions.
