With huge pressures from a rapidly growing population, Jakarta suffers from an increasingly low Environmental Quality Index (IKLH). In 2016 and 2017 it was the only province in Indonesia with the IKLH index “alert” according to the Ministry of Environmental and Forestry. Improving the quantity and quality of Green Open Space (GOS) is one way to counter this issue, and this initiative is undertaken by the DKI Jakarta Government to improve the quality of its environment. However, land limitations remain a challenge. The solution of the DKI Jakarta Government is to create multifunction GOS that combine various interests and facilities. The purpose of this study is to identify potential educational benefits from multifunction GOS, using qualitative analysis via literature study. The results suggest that the GOS provide economic, social and educational improvements. Most of the articles said that education through GOS is the second benefit that people can get. This study concludes that GOS can serve to improve environmental awareness in visitors, via indirect educational methods. The reality, must be faced by DKI Jakarta as the National Capital of Indonesia is population. The estimation  data from the Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2025, will be 11,034,000 people. This population is quite dense resulting in increased utilization of Natural Resources, and   declining the Jakarta Environmental Quality Index (IKLH). The 2016 IKLH is 38.69 and 2017 is 35.78 and this is the lowest IKLH among 33 Indonesian Provinces. The Provision Green Open Space Program is one of the methods used by the DKI Jakarta Government to maintain the environmental quality of DKI Jakarta.  For 2017 and 2018 did not reach the target for this program so it needs to be evaluated for the program that has been carried out in order to obtain in-depth findings. This research uses the evaluation method as Context, Input, Process Product (CIPP). Result: For the Context and Input components are in accordance with the expectations set while the Process and Product components do not meet the expectations set. Conclusion: Success of the program can be achieved if using innovative and creative ways and program evaluation must be done thoroughly by involving various supporting parties to find out the obstacles of program implementation

In flat environments, housewives are most found staying throughout the day. They use existing open spaces in housing project to interact with other residents. To find out, discover and analyze the correlation between the pattern of open space utilization and the pattern of activity of housewives at flats, this research was conducted using descriptive analysis method bases on case studies on some flats in urban areas, namely Kebon Kacang Flat (KK), Kemayoran Flat (K), Taman Surya Flat (TS) and Pasar Jumat Flat (PJ). Subjects were housewives (residents of the flats); sampling is taken by stratified random sampling. The survey was conducted by interview to obtain data on activity patterns of the mother. Subsequently, observation was conducted to get an overview of the activity patterns of mothers and use of open space including non-physical and physical data of these open spaces. The implementation was done in three stages: preparation (literature study and data collection by remote sensing), interpretation, field test and re-interpretation (width, location, quality of open spaces and activities, professions of women at these locations), and result presentation.

The quality of the environment and basic needs of the community as long as it is a matter of concern and need to be improved. This study aims to measure the effect of environmental quality on the fulfillment of basic needs. Mixed methods of Quantitative (with questionnaires) and qualitative (by interview) are conducted in data collection and analysis. The results showed that all environmental quality indexes were correlated with the fulfillment of basic needs, except for the biodiversity index. Based on the correlation test it is found that all environmental quality index have positive effect on the fulfillment of basic needs. This means, if there is an increase in air quality, water quality, land cover, biodiversity, public health, and environmental health then the fulfillment of basic needs will increase, and vice versa. The air quality index and land cover have the largest constants among the other indices. Thus, an increase of that value will have a greater impact on the increase in basic compliance, and vice versa.

Summary Geographic differences in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) prevalence suggest the possibility that environmental exposures contribute to EoE pathogenesis. We aimed to examine the association between environmental quality and risk of EoE, using the Environmental Quality Index (EQI), which provides quantification of environmental quality in five domains: air, land, water, built, and sociodemographic for all counties in the United States. To do this, we performed a case–control study in a large pathology database. EoE cases were defined by ≥15 eosinophils per high-power field with other pathologic diagnoses excluded; controls did not have EoE. The pathology data were geocoded and linked with the EQI by county of residence. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratio (OR and 95% confidence interval [CI]) of EoE with overall EQI and for each domain, after adjusting for sex, age, and proportion minority race or ethnicity at the county level (higher EQI score indicates worse environmental quality). Of 29,802 EoE cases and 593,329 controls analyzed, odds of EoE were highest in the worst quintile of EQI (OR 1.25; 95% CI: 1.04–1.50), which was largely explained by poor scores in the water domain (OR: 1.33; 1.17–1.50). Conversely, odds of EoE were reduced with higher scores in the air domain (OR: 0.87, 0.74–1.03) and land domain (OR 0.87; 0.76–0.99). Poor EQI, mostly reflected by poor water quality, was associated with increased odds of EoE, while poor air and land quality were inversely associated with EoE. Additional work to identify specific water pollutants that may have an etiologic role in EoE may be warranted.

Economic development as a process of improving people's welfare in a country can also lead the declining of the environment quality. The degradation of the environment can be caused by the energy consumption required in the development process, as well as pollution. The main purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the impact of energy consumption and economic growth toward environmental quality which is measured by environmental quality index. This study employs the econometric model of panel data of 34 provinces in Indonesia along 2011-2016. The study finds the long-term relationship between energy consumption and economic growth on environmental quality in Indonesia.

Abstract Vegetation plays an important role in maintaining the environmental quality of urban areas. Increase in population and development of cities has led to land conversion with lesser vegetated areas. Land cover change analysis in urban areas is needed, especially for urban regional planning with green open space consideration. This research was conducted to analyze urban vegetation cover and its changes in two sub-districts of Medan between the years 1999 and 2019. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and change analysis were conducted in the research. The diversity of plant within this areas was observed. The results showed changes in vegetation cover areas in the mentioned years. In 1999, most of the areas were under a highly dense vegetation class while in 2019, they were under a low-density vegetation class. This indicates a decrease in vegetation cover due to changes to non-vegetation cover or land cover areas with less vegetation. There are a diverse of plants within the area such as paddy, cassava, corn etc and also many tree species. It is recommended to optimize the land by replanting in the area with no or less vegetation to maintain the environmental quality.
