Definitions of terms masticatory system and vocal organs are used as introduction to analysis of their relations. Articulation involves masticatory and respiratory systems the primary functions of which are different from generation of sounds and particularly speech. However, proper and consistent action of these systems is indispensable for generation of understandable words. The paper presents basic properties of structure and functions of masticatory system at various levels of its development. Particular attention was concentrated on all elements of mascicatory system (lips, dental arches, tongue, palate, and muscles of temporomandibular joints) on shaping mechanisms of speech.

Computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the temporomandibular joint are often not a routine part of a dental patient's pain and clinical evaluation. As a result, the most poorly understood region within the masticatory system is the temporomandibular joint foundation. Unfortunately, patient care and occlusal management are often compromised because of a lack of insight into the relationship between the anatomy of the temporomandibular joints and the occlusion. This chapter's four distinct sections review the key concepts about the temporomandibular joint foundation anatomical structures, detail structurally intact and structurally altered temporomandibular joint anatomy, clarify how structurally altered temporomandibular joints influence occlusal function, and classify the stages of temporomandibular joint structural degeneration. The concept of joint-based malocclusion is explored with numerous temporomandibular joint foundation anomalous software renderings, and sample CT and MR images, which together illustrate in detail how soft tissue and bony abnormalities in a structurally altered temporomandibular joint can create distortions in the occlusion. Lastly, the chapter addresses the specific requirements a clinician must technically master to perform a comprehensive CT or MR examination.

The aim of this literature review is to present the main advantages of pre-prosthetic preparation of the masticatory system with occlusal appliances. The possibilities for attaining muscle relaxation at the achieved centric condyle position in the temporomandibular joints are discussed. The advantages, in terms of hard dental tissue protection, the diagnostic value and the psychoprophylactic effect, are considered. The wide-ranging benefits of the use of occlusal appliances in bruxism- and bruxomania-related craniomandibular dysfunctions are indisputable and represent a current scientific interest.

This paper reviews previous publications and elaborates further mathematical analysis and mechanical analysis of biomechanical functions, explaining the characteristics of human mandible, Temporomandibular joints (TMJs), muscles based on clinical anatomy, and analysing the inter-relationship and inter-reflection between each component of this multi-body assembled organism.

A cranio-maxillofacial region contains several bones and serves to protect and support the area, from the brain to the masticatory system. In this paper the clinical and research aspects of craniomaxillofacial biomaterials have been highlighted to serve as a guide into the wide world of their reconstructions. After a quick look into the anatomy, the review focuses on the causes of large bone defects in this region, and how they influence the designing process of the implant. Since it is a large area to unfold, only the maxillary, the mandible and the temporomandibular joints are highlighted. Understanding the biomechanics of mandible and temporomandibular joints is quite important, as it strongly influences the choice of the biomaterial. Thus, the latest techniques implemented to understand the biomechanics of the mandible are also highlighted. Via the finite element analysis, a simulation can help to identify the forces and the movements of the mandible and to predict the possible outcome of the implantation influencing the choice of the biomaterial.

The author argues that social construction of international public good depends on many factors, for example, government economic policy. Aggregation technologies in the supply of global public goods are examined.

La musculatura del sistema masticatorio y la articulación temporomandibular (ATM) están protegidos por reflejos nerviosos básicos y sistema neuromuscular a través de la coordinación de fuerzas musculares, todo lo que produce sobrecarga muscular repetitiva como los hábitos parafuncionales (HPF) pueden ocasionar trastornos temporomandibulares (TTM)1. Los HPF se caracterizan por movimientos anormales a la función mandibular normal sin objetivo funcional, al estar alterados constituyen una fuente productora de fuerzas traumáticas caracterizadas por dirección anormal, intensidad excesiva y repetición frecuente y duradera (Rolando Castillo Hernández, 2001)4. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar la asociación entre la presencia de hábitos parafuncionales de la cavidad bucal y los TTM en adolescentes de la ciudad de Puebla. Estudio observacional descriptivo. Se incluyeron 258 adolescentes, 132 (51.2%) mujeres y 126 (48.8%) hombres, con una edad promedio de 12.5±.73 y quienes fueron diagnosticados con los CDI/TTM y los HPF fueron auto-reportados por los pacientes. Se encontró una prevalencia de los TTM del 39.9% y una prevalencia de HPF del 86%. Los HPF más frecuentemente reportados fueron la succión labial y la onicofagia. Se encontró una asociación significativa (x2=7.31, p=0.007) entre los hábitos parafuncionales y los TTM en adolescentes. Abstract The muscles of the masticatory system and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are protected by basic nerve reflex and neuromuscular system through the coordination of muscle forces, all that repetitive muscle overload occurs as habit parafunctional (HPF) can cause temporomandibular disorder TMD)1. The characteristics of HPF are abnormal jaw movements without a functional objective. Being the jaw movements altered, they constitute a source of traumatic forces with an abnormal direction, excessive intensity and long-lasting and frequent duration. (Rolando Hernandez Castillo 2001)4. Objective: was to identify the association between the presences of parafunctional habits of the oral cavity and TMD in adolescents in the Puebla city in Mexico. Material and methods: Is a observational study, we included 258 adolescents 132 (51%) females and 126 (48.8%) were men, mean age 12.5±.73 and who were diagnosed with CDI/TTM and HPF were self- reported by patients. Results: The prevalence of TMD was 39.9% and a prevalence of 86% HPF. The most frequently reported HPF were lip sucking and nail biting.
