AbstractCopper-sepiolites exchanged at different levels have been studied by ESR, IR, and TG. The results indicate that in the unheated samples the Cu2+ ions are located in octahedral edge positions. After dehydration, the Cu2+ ions occur in two positions with different environments. Some of the Cu2+ ions lose the two molecules of coordinated water in one step, at low dehydration temperatures, and adopt a square pyramidal geometry. Other Cu2+ ions lose the coordination water in two steps, at lower temperature than the natural sepiolite, and adopt a tetrahedral symmetry.

The paper deals with monitoring of pollution arising due to agrochemicals and pesticides manufacturing industries located along the Dombivali industrial belt of Mumbai, India. The study was carried for the period of one year from June, 2012 to May, 2013 to study the level of toxic heavy metals and the physico-chemical properties of waste water effluents discharged from the above industries. The average concentration of Cu, Ni, Cr, Pb and Zn was found to be maximum of 29.86, 0.90, 1.16 and 1.19 ppm respectively in summer season, while average Fe concentration was maximum of 51.10 ppm in winter season. The average pH value of the effluent was found to be maximum of 12.95 in summer season, while average conductivity value was maximum of 21085 µmhos/cm in rainy season. The majority of physco-chemical parameters like alkalinity, hardness, salinity, chloride, cyanide, phosphate, total solid, BOD and COD content were found to be maximum in summer season having the average values of 1918, 186, 4, 11.20, 0.07, 81, 6391, 685 and 2556 ppm respectively. The average DO content was found to be low of 4.5 ppm in winter season. It was observed that the concentration level of majority of the toxic heavy metals and physico-chemical properties were above the tolerable limit set for inland surface water. The results of present study indicates that the existing situation if mishandled can cause irreparable ecological harm in the long term well masked by short term economic prosperity due to extensive industrial growth

Gelatin has been widely used as an additive in food industry pharmaceutical, and  cosmetic. The similar physical appearance between bovine and porcine gelatin causes an issue for some communities like a Muslim due to awareness of halal food. This study aims to produce gelatin from femur bones of bovines with acid hydrolysis and their characteristics compared to standard gelatin of bovine and porcine. Bovine and porcine bones were soaked in 5% HCl for 10 days and every 2 days a HCl solution was replaced to get ossein. Ossein is hydrolyzed by gradual heating at 65, 75, and 85oC. Gelatin  confirmed by  the physico-chemical characters, FT-IR and analysis amino acid with HPLC.The results showed that the yield of bovine gelatin was 4.33%. The physico-chemical characters of bovine gelatin resulting from isolation and bovine gelatin standards are in conformity with porcine gelatin standards and meet the requirements of SNI 06-3735-1995 and GMIA. Therefore, bovine gelatin is specifically capable of substituting porcine gelatin for application in the pharmaceutical field. The FTIR spectrum of bovine gelatin shows the presence of amide A, amide I, amide II and amide III groups. The amino acid characters of gelatin were identified as glycine (13.57%) and proline (1.62%) for bovine gelatin and glycine (0.51%) and proline (0.09%) for porcine gelatin.

Pot experiment is carried out at the greenhouse belongs to the college of Education-university of Al-Anbar during Winter season 2013/2014 to investigate the effect of application of different levels of bat guano (0, 4 and 8gm) on some yield  traits for two bread wheat Triticum aestivum L. Cvs, one is local cv. (Aliz) another one is imported from Australia (Eratom). The experimental treatments are distributed according factorial experiment arrangement using completely randomized blocks with three replicates. Some traits are measured as spikes no per plant, spike length, spike weight, grains nos. per spike and grains weight per pot. Results reveal that bat guano application of 8gm is significantly superior in the average of. It thus could be concluded that the application of bat guano at 8gm alone is the better than 4gm in some traits. However, the genetic affinity of local cv is dominated with 4gm application and of imported cv is to 8gm application. Therefore, it could be recommended to test the application of bat guano on the two cultivars across field environment

Background: Spent hen meat is considered as poor because of comparatively higher toughness and chewiness. The present study was envisaged to find out the effect of barley flour on the quality characteristics of restructured spent hen meat blocks.Methods: Barley flour (1:1 hydration, w/w) was incorporated at the levels of 4, 6 and 8% by replacing the lean meat in pre-standardized restructured spent hen meat blocks (RSHMB) formulation and evaluated for physico-chemical, sensory and textural quality.Result: Product yield was significantly higher (P less than 0.05) and at 6 and 8% level of barley flour as compared to control. Fat percentage and shear force value of RSHMB was significantly lower (P less than 0.05) at 8% level of barley flour as compared to control. There were no significant differences in the scores for general appearance, texture, binding, juiciness and overall acceptability of RSHMB of control as well as those incorporated with different levels of barley flour. Texture profile analysis revealed that the hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness of RSHMB with 8% barley flour were significantly lower (P less than 0.05) than that of control. Optimum incorporation level of barley flour for the preparation of restructured spent hen meat blocks was adjudged as 8%. The production cost of RSHMB with 8% barley flour reduced by Rs. 18.4/Kg than that of control. The developed restructured spent hen meat blocks with 8% barley flour can be utilized as texture-modified nutritious soft food products.

Physico-chemical (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, hardness, nitrogen, heavy metal, etc) and bacteriological (coliform bacteria) characteristics of water were studied in samples collected from Sundarijal reservoir and its main feeding streams: Bagmati, Nagmati and Shyalmati in 2003 and 2004 AD. Human activities near the water bodies and sanitary condition of the residential areas of watershed were also examined. Although public awareness and proper management of watershed and reservoir premises were lacking, yet the physico-chemical characters were within the standard of World Health Organization (WHO) and European Commission (EC) for drinking water. However, the coliform bacteria were high and water was not safe to consume without intense treatments with disinfectants. Psidium guajava L. is a perennial fruit tree in subtropical and tropical areas. In Bangladesh, P. guajava has been used as edible fruits and people use it to treat acute diarrhea, cough and intestinal spasmodic diseases. In the present study, morphological and molecular characterizations were used to display different levels of variability. Molecular marker random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was used for the molecular identification of 33 P. guajava germplasm from three selected south-western location of Bangladesh. Among them, eleven commercially cultivated germplasm and the rest twenty two were collected from local farmers. The 10-mer and 12-mer oligonucleotide primers were used in RAPD to amplify. Four primers, A02, A03, S07 and S08, were able to direct the amplification and yield a total of 252 band patterns of which 33.19% were polymorphic. The highest percent of polymorphic loci (37.5%) was observed from primer A03 and the lowest (28.57%) was from primer S08. Results were analyzed by molecular algorithm UPGMA and Neighbor-Joining. Thirty-three genotypes on the dendrogram were identified and divided into two major groups and subgroups on the basis of morphological characteristics and also on the uncultivated and commercial cultivars. The range of genetic distance was observed 0.5253 (Jelly and Thai) to 0.6631 (V30 and V 22). Based on the cluster analysis, the P. guajava samples have morphological difference were grouped independently. Physico-chemical parameters of the Seepage stream of Shripur area were studied for two years from July, 2002 to June, 2004, once in every month at regular intervals. The maximum air temperature was recorded in rainy season during first year (July, 2002 to June, 2003) and second year study period (July, 2003 to June, 2004). Water temperature was maximum in summer and lowest in winter season. Transparency, total alkalinity, total hardness, chloride were maximum in winter season. Free CO2 and BOD was maximum in summer season. The minimum transparency, total alkalinity, total hardness and chloride were recorded in rainy season. DO and pH were maximum in winter and minimum in summer season during the whole study period. Air temperature, water temperature, free CO2, BOD showed positive and significant correlation with each other. Transparency showed positive and significant correlation with pH, DO, total alkalinity, total hardness and chloride. pH showed positive and significant correlation with DO and chloride. Similarly, DO, total alkalinity, total hardness and chloride showed positive and significant correlation with each other.
