The present study was undertaken to provide information on the nature and magnitude of genetic diversity among 30 mung bean genotypes for yield traits by using Mahalanobis’s D2 statistics. Thirty genotypes could be grouped in 6 clusters, cluster VI showed maximum intra-cluster distance while the highest inter-cluster distance was observed between cluster III and VI. Cluster II recorded highest means for seeds per pod, 100 seed weight, seed yield per plant and shelling %. The percent contribution towards genetic diversity was highest for shelling percentage (17.70) followed by seed yield per plant (16.55) and number of clusters per plant (14.71). From the divergence analysis, it may be concluded that the genotypes belonging to different clusters separated by high estimated statistical distance may be used in the hybridization programme for developing high yielding mung bean varieties. Five genotypes viz., PDM-11, TARM-2, TM-98-50, PDM 54 and Basanti could be identified as most useful in the future breeding programme.

A total of 434 germplasm lines of chickpea were assessed for 13 quantitative traits during rabi 2015-16 at JNKVV, Jabalpur. Genotypes were grouped into fourteen clusters. Clusters II and cluster XIV and cluster XII and cluster XIV, had maximum inter cluster distance. The characters viz.,effective pods per plant followed by biological yield per plant, plant height and 100-seed weight were main contribution to total divergence. Cluster XIV and cluster XIII had highest mean values for maximum number of characters. Based on the result IC 83812, EC 198729, EC 490027, IC 53245, IC 83827and IC 83889 are recommended for hybridization, as these genotypes showed good per se performance for seed yield and belong to the highly diverse clusters.

Genetic divergence was studied in a set of seventy four genotypes of upland rice by using Mahalanobis D2 statistics for yield and its contributing characters. All the characters under study showed highly significant differences among genotypes. The genotypes under study were grouped into 15 clusters. The distribution pattern indicated that maximum number of genotypes (35) were found in cluster I, followed by cluster II with 12 genotypes, whereas, minimum number of genotype (1) had cluster XV. The inter-cluster distance was greater than intra-cluster distance indicating wide genetic divergence among genotypes. The highest intra-cluster distance was revealed in cluster XIV followed by cluster XIII and cluster XI. The maximum inter-cluster distance was observed between Cluster XIV and XV, followed by Cluster V and XV. The highest cluster mean was observed for yield/plant in cluster VII; however, contributing characters viz., panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains and 100 seed weight were found in cluster XIV. Seed yield/plant was found major contributing character towards the total genetic divergence which may be utilized in selecting genetically diverse parents, especially for exploitation of heterosis.

Genetic diversity study was conducted in 38 chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes using Mahalanobis D2 Statistics. The current research performed at FoA, Wadura Sopore, SKUAST-Kashmir in the rabi 2017-18. In the present study, total seven clusters have been formed and range of D2 values is from 301.78 to 8477.71, cluster II includes maximum 12 genotypes after that cluster I having 9 genotypes, cluster IV having 6 genotypes, cluster Ⅲ and Ⅴ having 4 genotypes, cluster Ⅵ having 2 genotypes and cluster Ⅶ with 1 genotype. 959.33 to 8477.71 is the range of inter cluster distance. Highest inter cluster distance (8477.71) was found between the clusters, Ⅵ and Ⅶ followed by the clusters, Ⅳ and Ⅶ (5814.62), Ⅳ and Ⅴ (5807.441), Ⅴ and Ⅵ (4659.34). The minimum inter-cluster distance (959.33) possessed by clusters, Ⅱ and Ⅲ. After comprehending the intra cluster divergence it has been found that cluster Ⅳ has highest intra cluster distance (637.07) then cluster I (459.16). Since cluster Ⅶ includes only one genotype which indicates that there is no intra cluster divergence. Total nine traits have been evaluated, plant height registered higher divergence (49.25%) then pods plant-1 (36.12%), days to 50% flowering (4.13%) and days to maturity (2.7%), secondary branches plant-1 (3.24%), seed yield plant-1 (1.28%) and primary branches plant-1 (1.14%). The 100-seed weight (1.12%) and seeds pod-1 (1.02%) possesses less divergence. By considering above results the nine genotypes viz., IR-1, IR-3, IR-30, IR-20, IR-21, IR-10, IR-2, IR-7 and IR-31 have been recognized as desired genotypes for use in future breeding programme.

Genetic divergence among 22 genotypes of lentil was estimated using D2 and principal component analysis. The genotypes under study fell into four clusters. The intra-cluster value was the maximum in cluster I and the minimum in cluster II. The inter-cluster distance was larger than the intra-cluster distance in all the cases suggesting the wider genetic diversity among the genotypes of different groups. The inter-cluster value indicated maximum distance between cluster I and II than cluster III and IV. Thus the genetically diverged genotypes of the clusters could be used as parent in hybridization program to get desirable genotypes. Cluster I had the highest mean for days to maturity, plant height, pods/plant and per plot yield while cluster II and III had the highest days to first flowering and 100 seed weight, respectively. The present investigation was carried out using thirty two pigeonpea genotypes during kharif 2013-14 to obtain the knowledge of correlation, path coefficient analysis for the yield components and genetic divergence. The range of GCV was observed from 9.81 to 40.88% for the traits under study which provides information regarding the extent of variability present among the genotypes. Seed yield was significantly and positively correlated with number of secondary branches/plant, pods/plant and 100-seed weight. Path coefficient analysis indicated that number of secondary branches exhibited maximum direct effect followed by number of pods/plant and 100 seed weight. The genotypes were grouped into eight different clusters based on Mahalonobis D2 statistics. Clusters II and III exhibited maximum inter cluster distance of 8.80. Days to 50% flowering contributed to maximum genetic divergence followed by seed yield. Genotypes in cluster III recorded highest mean value for days to maturity, number of secondary branches and seed yield.

Forty genotypes of chickpea were evaluated for assessing genetic divergence for different quantitative characters for improving yield potential of chickpea by using Mahalanobis D2 statistics. The genotypes were grouped into seven clusters suggesting considerable amount of genetic diversity in the material. The intra-cluster D2 value ranged from 0.00 to 9.06 while, intercluster D2 value ranged from 4.07 to 55.71. The maximum intra cluster distance was exhibited by cluster V followed by cluster II and cluster I. Cluster III had mono- genotype and emerged with contained highest cluster mean value grain yield per plot. Cluster II has highest mean value for number of pods per plant and lowest mean value for days to 50% flowering, days to maturity and plant height. Maximum contribution toward the total divergence was exhibited by 100-seed weight followed by number of pods per plant and minimum by days to maturity. Cluster IV and VI showing maximum inter cluster distance and crossing of genotypes Sabour chana-1 (BRC-1), GCP 105, PBC 503, DC 16-2, NBeG 776, RVSSG 42, G2016-43, GL 14042, IPC 2013-21, GNG 2338, GNG 2375 and KWR 108 from cluster VI suggested for improving grain yield per plot, 100-seed weight and earliness in flowering and ultimately enhancing the yield and chances of getting better recombinants in segregating generations.

Genetic diversity was estimated in 50 little millet genotypes by Mahalanobis D2 analysis for nine quantitative and eight physiological traits. In the present investigation based on D2 analysis fifty genotypes were grouped into 7 clusters. Among the different clusters cluster I had maximum number 35 genotypes followed by cluster II contains 10 and clusters III, IV, V, VI, VII were solitary. Inter cluster distances were higher than intra cluster distances indicating wider genetic diversity among the genotypes. The maximum inter cluster distance was observed between cluster IV and VII (131.19) followed by cluster II and IV (112.18) and cluster III and VII (104.28) indicated the existence of highly divergent genotypes. The genotypes from these clusters could be used as parents in hybridization programme to develop good recombinants. Days to 50% flowering, plant height, leaf area index at panicle initiation stage and 1000 seed weight contributed maximum towards genetic diversity. These traits could be given importance for selecting parents in crop improvement programme.

The study of the effect of three well known mutagens, ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS), methyl methane sulphonate (MMS) and gamma rays (GR) on the yield contributing traits of the urdbean variety TPU-4 were carried out in the M3 generation. Effect of selected mutagenic treatments/doses of EMS (0.02, 0.03 and 0.04 M), MMS (0.0025, 0.05 and 0.01 M) and (GR) (30, 40 and 50 KR) on different yield contributing traits like plant height, plant spread, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, seed yield per plant and 100 seed weight were analyzed in the M3 populations of the variety TPU-4. Seeds of M2 plants and control were harvested separately and sown to raise M3 population.. Genetic variabilty in the mutagen administered M3 progeny of the urdbean variety TPU-4 was analyzed by employing statistical methods. Data on mean values and shift in the mean of seven quantitative traits was evaluated on individual plant basis. The experimental findings revealed that concentrations / dose of the all these mutagens showed inhibitory effect on plant height, number of pods per plant, pod length and number of seeds per pod. Lower concentrations of mutagens exerted a promotory effect on plant spread, 100 seed weight and seed yield per plant while higher concentrations of these mutagens inhibited them to different extent.

Abstract The present investigation was carried out to evaluate agronomic performance and oil quality of seven sunflower genotypes at Shandaweel Research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Sohag, Egypt during 2018 and 2019 summer seasons. These genetic materials were sown in a randomized complete block design having three replications. Significant genetic variations among evaluated sunflower genotypes for agronomic traits and oil quality were observed. The superior sunflower genotypes were Line 120 for seed yield per hectare (3102.38 kg), Sakha 53 for seed oil content (44.63 %) and Line 125 for oil quality where it contained the highest proportion of unsaturated fatty acids (89.20 %). The phenotypic coefficients of variation were slightly higher than genotypic coefficients of variation for all studied traits. High heritability (exceeded 60%) and genetic advance as percent of mean (ranged from medium to high, exceeded 10%) was observed for most studied traits. Seed yield per plant positively correlated with plant height, stem diameter, head diameter, and 100-seed weight and most chemical traits at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Maximum phenotypic direct effects on seed yield per plant were observed for 100-seed weight, head diameter and total unsaturated fatty acids. While, the highest genotypic direct effect on seed yield per plant was observed for head diameter. Hence, most studied traits could be employed as selection criteria for improving evaluated sunflower genotypes.

Genetic divergence of 110 lentil germplasm with checks was assessed based on morphological traits using multivariate analysis. Mahalanobis generalized distance (D2) analysis was used to group the lentil genotypes. Significant variations among lentil genotypes were observed in respect of days to 1st flowering, days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, and number of pods per peduncle, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant, 100 seed weight and yield per plant. Considering the mean values, the germplasm were grouped into ten clusters. The highest number of genotypes (17) was in cluster X and lowest (5) both in cluster II and IV. Cluster IV had the highest cluster mean for number of pods per plant (297.08), number of seeds per plant (594.16), 100 seed weight (1.44 g) and yield per plant (8.53 g). Among them, the highest inter-cluster distance was obtained between the cluster IV and I (24.61) followed by IV and III (22.33), while the lowest was between IX and II (1.63). The maximum value of inter-cluster distance indicated that genotypes belonging to cluster IV were far diverged from those of cluster I. The first female flower initiation was earlier in BD-3812 (49 days) in cluster I and cluster IV had highest grain yield per plant (8.53).
