In the prevention oforal diseases, dental hygienic status, proper oral hygiene, the proper choice ofmeans and methodsfor performing hygienic dental activities are essential. However, even among future doctors, the hygienic state of the oral cavity leaves much to be desired. Basic knowledge of oral hygiene and the principles ofprevention ofdental diseases are necessary for physicians of various specialties, since there is often a relationship between dental diseases and diseases of other organs and systems of the body. The article gives an assessment of the hygienic status of students of different courses and identifies the sources that they use to gain knowledge on oral care.

Relevance. Periodontal diseases are a medical and social problem due to the wide spread among the population of developed countries and the impact on the quality of life. Among the many factors that are important in the development of inflammatory periodontal diseases, an important role is played by adherence to the recommendations of the dentist in respecting oral hygiene. Aim of the work was to study the adherence of patients of the dental clinic to compliance with preventive measures in the oral cavity.Materials and methods. A total of 98 patients of dental clinic, 62 female (medial age 38,6 ± 14,0 years) and 36 male (medial age 37,2±13,1 years) participated in survey. The study participants flled in the profle and answered questions about age, gender, harmful working conditions and bad habits, frequency of visits to the dental clinic, attitudes to the prevention of dental diseases, knowledge about the means and methods of oral hygiene.Results. As a result of the study, it was found that in the vast majority of cases, respondents are employed in production that does not adversely affect their health (91%), only 8% of patients indicated harmful working conditions.Conclusions. The study revealed that, despite the recommendations of the dentist, patients are not always committed to the implementation of preventive measures in the oral cavity. Dentists need to motivate patients to use not only the usual methods and means of hygiene, but also additional ones necessary for maintaining dental health.

A study of oral hygiene condition in primary school children based on Fedorov-Volodkina index has revealed that children do not clean their teeth properly enough and the average indicator of the studied group is unsatisfactory. The study based on children’s age indicates that the best oral hygiene condition is found in children aged 9 (satisfactory), whereas the worst – in children aged 8 (unsatisfactory). This, in our opinion, is due to the period of frontal teeth eruption and the discomfort associated with such process. Children clean the frontal area not properly. As children grow older, their personal hygiene skills improve as evidenced by the findings of comparing 6- and 9-year-olds’ indices (р<0.05). It was determined that each child’s index by Green-Vermillion and obtained results allows assessing the condition of oral cavity and cleaning skills. It has been identified significant differences in the oral hygiene condition in children who suffer from caries and in children with healthy teeth. Thus, before teeth brushing 6-year-old children without caries had unsatisfactory oral hygiene condition, children with caries –poor oral hygiene condition, 7-year old children – unsatisfactory one, 8-year-old children – unsatisfactory and poor, 9-year-old children – satisfactory and unsatisfactory respectively. The poorest oral hygiene condition was observed with 6-year-olds with caries. It has been assessed that dental tartar based on the studied indices. The study has revealed insufficient oral hygiene of the frontal and lateral jaw areas in children of primary school. This phenomenon creates cariogenic situation in the oral cavity. Having studied oral hygiene condition in children, it was offered by us to brush teeth with the toothbrush and toothpaste which they use at home. They brushed their teeth under the supervision, but without dentist’s management. Observed results were described in this paper. After brushing, oral hygiene condition has been studied again. When assessing Fedorov-Volodkina index, it was not observed any improvement of the index after teeth brushing in children without caries. In 6-, 7-, and 8-year-old children oral hygiene was unsatisfactory, whereas in 9-year-old children it was satisfactory. Oral hygiene improvement was observed in children who have caries. In 6-year-old children – from poor to unsatisfactory, in 7-, 8-, and 9-year-old children it remained at the same unsatisfactory level, but hygiene index indicators probably decreased (р<0.05). The findings indicate that children with caries do not pay attention to oral hygiene, whereas teeth brushing improve the studied index. Green-Vermillion index enables to determine oral hygiene condition in frontal and lateral jaw areas. After individual teeth brushing this hygiene index values slightly improve compared to original values, however, no significant difference in hygiene level was identified. Findings from studying various hygiene indices indicate that children with caries pay attention to brushing frontal jaw area and absolutely no attention to brushing lateral jaw areas with first permanent molars that have recently erupted, and they are not enough mineralized, and are prone to caries at this age. This encourages a study of teeth brushing skills of children of primary school using the suggested form of child oral hygiene skills followed by development of oral hygiene recommendations for the children of this age group with parental involvement.

BACKGROUND: Preservation and strengthening of the health of civil aviation flight personnel is an extremely urgent problem and is associated with ensuring flight safety. AIM: This study aimed to determine the structure and analyze the organs and tissues of the masticatory apparatus among civil aviation flight personnel. MATERIALS AND METHODS: To determine the incidence and intensity of main dental diseases and the morbidity structure of organs and tissues of the masticatory apparatus in civil aviation pilots, an in-depth examination was carried out in 120 men aged 2545 years (study group 1) working on various modern passenger and transport aircrafts. The duration of flight operations ranged from 2 to 17 years, with a total flight duration of 140 to 5580 h. The comparison group consisted of 146 men (aged 2545 years) of non-flying specialties (study group 2). The generally accepted methods for assessing the prevalence and intensity of the course of major dental diseases were used. RESULTS: The incidence and intensity of dental disorders, periodontal disease, temporomandibular joint disorders, and parafunctions of the masticatory muscles were defined. The incidence and intensity of major dental diseases among civil aviation flight personnel were clearly directly proportional to their flight time (r=0.547) and duration of work in civil aviation (r=0.482) but to a lesser extent to their age (r=0.416). CONCLUSIONS: Non-carious lesions of the teeth, inflammatory and dystrophic diseases of the periodontal and oral mucosa, painful dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint, and bruxism are more common among civil aviation flight personnel than among non-flying personnel, which is due to the unfavorable effect of air flight factors on organs and tissues of the mastication apparatus and the body of the pilots as a whole.

Aim. Evaluation of dental diseases prevalence in professional athletes engaged in power sports and of the influence of biologically neutral products based on propolis on the level of their dental health. Methods. The examination of organs and tissues of the oral cavity of professional athletes engaged for a long time in power sports was carried out. With the use of the developed specialized questionnaire dental status of the athletes was determined. Based on the analysis of the results of clinical and laboratory studies anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effectiveness of products based on propolis were evaluated. Results. The results of the survey showed that not all athletes are informed about the possibility of aggravation of pathological processes in soft and hard tissues of oral cavity during active training, mainly, in power sports. Lack of awareness of surveyed athletes about the need for timely individual oral hygiene procedures and regular dentist visits was revealed, especially during intense training before and after competitions. On evaluation of dental status of professional combat athletes high prevalence and intensity of inflammatory periodontal disease and caries were found. High anti-inflammatory efficiency of the product «Pomegranate Balm» for correction of dental status of professional athletes was proven. Conclusion. High incidence of inflammatory periodontal diseases of mild to moderate severity was revealed in athletes during prolonged and intense physical training; efficacy of biologically neutral products based on propolis was established.

Background: Dental and oral health is one part that can not be separated from overall body health. Dental and oral care as a whole begins with dental and oral hygiene for each individual. Teaching methods of brushing teeth for children need to be given examples of a good model and with the simplest technique possible.Objectives: The research aims to increase the knowledge of SDN 33 Banda Aceh City students in maintaining dental and oral health and improve the dental and oral hygiene status of SDN 33 Banda Aceh City students.Method:  The research using a quantitative method with a descriptive approach, with the target of Class V students of SDN 33 Banda Aceh City Banda Aceh City totaling 30 children. Data analysis uses univariate analysis. The interventions provided were in the form of Dental Health Education (DHE).Results: The results of these community service activities show there is an increase in students' knowledge in the maintenance of dental and oral hygiene in SDN 33 Banda Aceh City students, with an increase before the intervention (pre-test) is in the sufficient category (56.7%) and after the intervention (post test) in the good category (96.7%). There was an increase in the status of dental and oral hygiene of students, with an increase before the intervention (pre-test) was in the bad category (100%) and after the intervention (post test) was in the good category (100%).Conclusion: It is recommended that schools provide regular counseling to students about the importance of maintaining oral health and holding joint toothbrushes to improve oral and dental hygiene.

In recent years, there has been noted a tendency to deterioration of dental health in children and teenagers. Therefore, it is important to study the dental status of children who attend different educational establishments to identify risk factors for dental diseases and develop means of their elimination. The survey of adolescents studying in various educational institutions (school, college, university) in Chernivtsi was conducted according to the generally accepted method. The study of the prevalence (%) and intensity of caries (CPV of teeth) was taking into account the degree of caries activity in each age period: compensated (1st), subcompensated (2nd), decompensated (3rd). A total of 107 schoolchildren, 317 college students, and 116 university students were surveyed. Adolescents are 15 to 18 years old. To conduct the study, the average rates of caries in each age group were calculated to determine the degree of caries activity in each age period, taking into account the area where adolescents live. The following indicators were obtained for the Chernivtsi region: – 15 years: compensated form – up to 4 caries-affected teeth, subcompensated – 5-7, decompensated – 8 or over; – 16 years: compensated – up to 5, subcompensated – 6-8, decompensated – 9 or over; – 17 years: compensated – up to 7, subcompensated – 8-10, decompensated – 11 or over; – 18 years: compensated – up to 8, subcompensated – 9-11, decompensated 12, or over. Our research showed that college students in all studied age periods (15, 16, 17, and 18 years) had worse results than teenagers in the comparison groups (schoolchildren of 15-16 years, university students of 17-18 years). About 62% of all examined teenagers had the first degree of caries activity, 19.5% had the 2nd, and 18.5% had the 3rd degree of caries. Teenagers enrolled in college were divided according to the degree of caries activity: in the 1st degree – 36.3%, 2nd – 32.2%, 3rd – 31.5%, at school: 1st degree – 100%, at university: 1st degree – 97.4%, 2nd – 2.6%. At the age of 18, the number of college students who have a decompensated degree of caries activity increases to 36.6% due to a decrease in the number in the group with a subcompensated degree. University students in 100% of cases had a compensated degree of caries activity. Caries intensity rates in each age group are lower in schoolchildren than in college students and are the lowest in university students. In teenagers with the first degree of caries activity, the highest rate of caries intensity was observed in college (15-18 year adolescents), and the lowest – at school (15-16 years). University students, despite being 17-18 years old, had lower rates than college teens. All students had the first degree of caries activity. When comparing the rate of caries intensity in the studied 15 year-olds with the compensated degree of caries activity, it was found that in schoolchildren it is 1.7 times lower than in college students, in 16 year-olds – 1.5 times. At the age of 17 and 18 – 1.7 times, compared to university students. Thus, our research showed that college students of all studied age groups had worse indices than teenagers in the comparison groups. They have a more severe course of caries. The results suggest that further studies into the causes of caries in college students need to be conducted.

Subject. In 2017, the “Happy Smile” project was developed at the dental faculty of the Ural State Medical University and its active implementation began, during which teachers and students conduct preventive measures in educational institutions, shopping centers, hospitals of the city. The goal is to increase the literacy of the population in relation to the prevention of oral diseases, as well as the quality of life of the population by reducing the level of dental morbidity, the formation of professional and super-professional competencies of a modern graduate dentist. Methodology. According to WHO, the prevalence of dental diseases does not tend to decrease. An urgent task today is the development of programs and projects aimed at the health of the population. Results. In 2017, the staff of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Propaedeutics of Dental Diseases of the Ural State Medical University took the initiative to create a Happy Smile preventive project at the faculty. The main objectives of the project were: the creation of a comprehensive preventive program covering all age groups of the population; carrying out activities aimed at updating the preservation and maintenance of dental health; improving the quality of medical (dental) education by involving students in medical volunteering; expansion of the territory of events to nearby cities of the Sverdlovsk region. Conclusions. Participation in the project forms significant professional and supra-professional competencies of students, which helps to improve the quality of training of future dentists. The involvement of students in the implementation of the project will increase their relevance in the labor market. Implementation of the project is a health-saving technology that reduces dental incidence in Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk Region.

The therapeutic and diagnostic activity is a collective work that is carried out jointly by specialists in different directions of dentistry and support units. The main goal of this type of activity is to improve the dental health by preventing dental diseases. It includes the treatment and rehabilitation using various ways of replacement of the lost integrity of the dentition and restoration of the teeth using a prosthetic. In order to do this, it is necessary to prepare the teeth and the pulp of the oral cavity for prosthetics. The sequence of preparatory activities includes a series of steps carried out in sequence: preventive, hygienic, therapeutic (including periodontal), surgical and orthopedic (including orthodontics). Each of these stages includes a series of manipulations, the sequence and number of which is determined by the individual dental status of each patient. The inspection and preparation of a comprehensive plan for the treatment involves a sequence of all these actions carried out by a team of experts in agreement with the patient, evidenced by the «informed consent» subscription. After the preparatory activities, it is possible to go to the final stage, that is to make a prosthetic appliance to the patient. The total duration of all phases of preparatory activities preceding the prosthetics depends on the complexity of the steps themselves, and is determined by the severity of the related dental diseases. The treatment of these diseases is the main part of the preparatory activities.

Teeth and mouth are parts of the body that cannot be separated, where the teeth are in the oral cavity so that if there is interference with the teeth it will affect the mouth. Knowledge to recognize dental and oral diseases from an early age is very much needed to be able to maintain healthy teeth and mouth. Lack of knowledge about these oral and dental diseases will result in severe damage to teeth and mouth. This study aims to measure the severity of oral disease and provide a diagnosis of oral and dental disease so that later it can be used as a reference for consultation with a doctor. The method used in this research is Forward Chaining to represent the rules of 27 symptom facts and 8 diseases described by experts. The results of testing for this method are as many as 10 patient data were diagnosed to get the same result as the doctor's analysis so that the accuracy rate is 80%. The expert system designed with the Codeigniter Framework can provide insight by being able to identify the disease suffered by patients and measure the severity of the oral and dental disease suffered.

The oral cavity and anterior two-thirds of the tongue are formed by the ectoderm and that is why from a dermatologist's viewpoint, an oral opening is especially imperative and involved in a range of systemic and skin disease, also affect teeth and gums. The body's natural protection is in good quality oral care. Oral problems when associated with skin conditions require oral care as it affects the quality of life and enable dermatologist and dentist in the identification and diagnosing of systemic disease. Oral illness can bring into being from infection, inflammation or neoplastic, immunological, benign, or malignant. Results: The oral cavity is a mirror to a variety of systemic and cutaneous diseases. Interpretation of the symptom and signs of systemic diseases help early diagnosis. However, while not correct oral hygiene, microorganisms will reach levels that may result in oral infections and decay. The health status of our oral cavity can give us a strong signal of the health of our bodies. It proceeds as a premature warning system. That's why the oral cavity should be examined in one piece from the buccal mucosa to the oropharynx. Conclusion: The mouth is a straightforwardly available window of the body. In contemplation with development, composition, and utility oral cavity is only one of its kind. It is a two-way road as systemic skin disease has oral manifestation. Interpretation of the symptom and signs help in identification and early diagnosis of systemic diseases. Oral illness can bring into being from infection, inflammation or neoplastic, immunological, benign, or malignant. That's why the oral cavity should be examined in one piece from buccal mucosa, lips, tongue, gum, teeth, palate to the oropharynx. Knowledge of systemic diseases is vital in day to day clinical practice, often oral manifestation is the most significant or first sign of systemic illness. So dermatologists and dental surgeons are conscious of oral complaints and their association with systemic disease.
