The paper discusses the importance of distance learning within university education. This issue stems from lifelong learning perspective, relating to social factors as emigration, demographic situation and competitiveness in the labour market. Distance learning is one of the possible solutions to acquire education to working people or those who live in remote locations. The main focus of our research was on learning quality and students’ satisfaction based on the case study of distance learning mode application. The research sample was composed of 126 part-time students who participated in the distance course organized as a part of university education. The case study of a distance course presented in this paper and survey findings revealed the study participants’ positive approach to distance learning in the university educational process. New technologies and their resulting opportunities for learners to interact with each other and with teachers, provision of guidance and logically structured material created preconditions for students’ satisfaction. Therefore, we assume that development of distance learning courses, constructivist learning environment with its inherent creative approach to learning provision can bring solutions to many social and educational issues, such as big emigration flows of young population, better employment opportunities and selfrealisation of young adults.

eTwinning is an innovative European program that strengthens lifelong learning and the main purpose of which is the networking of schools with the help of new technologies. It is an initiative of the European Commission to strengthen the collaborative distance learning and the implementation of new innovative instructional methods. Through literature review, this article explores the contribution of the eTwinning project to the cultivation of basic skills, which the European Parliament identifies as keys to an individual's lifelong learning. Mathematics are included in these skills. It is an attempt to show the schools' potential to cultivate the students' European identity and European skills, such as cooperation and respect for the perceptions and culture of other people. It is also a case study aimed at exploring the cognitive, creative, cooperative and technological dimensions of an eTwinning action, as well as the attitude of 18 students towards the distance learning action, which they participated in. Τhe subject of the eTwinning practice combines mathematical concepts applied in real context.

Subject. In the context of digital transformation of the society, online courses, as a form of basic and additional education in universities, play a crucial role. Objectives. I consider the types and content of online courses used by universities for distance education, analyze the perception of the new forms of educational process by teachers and students, and positive and negative aspects of distance learning in 2020. Methods. The study employs statistical methods of data collection, generalization of basic statistics, analysis of obtained results and materials that are published in scientific publications and mass media, best practices for remote learning. Results. The paper provides consolidated assessment of positive and negative aspects of remote regime of the traditional form of education, the participation of universities in programs for online mass education, the demand for and directions of supplementary education in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, State support to digital transformation of universities in 2020. Conclusions. At the current stage of digital transformation of education, universities use different options to implement distance learning. Online courses, being the main form of modern university education, are developing and improving rapidly. They play an important role in the system of training specialists for the national economy and individual development.

In modern conditions of reforming the system of higher education, the introduction of time-based blended and distance learning, the mission of higher education is to ensure the efficiency and quality of university education. Therefore, the problem of using blended and distance learning technologies becomes relevant, which, taking into account the peculiarities of the conduct, should ensure the quality of educational services for students. Blended learning is defined as a hybrid of traditional face-to-face and online learning so that instruction occurs both in the classroom and online, and where the online component becomes a natural extension of traditional classroom learning. The article highlights the peculiarities of the introduction of mixed and distance learning at the university, analyzes and clarifies the essence and content of the concepts of « blended learning», «distance learning», identifies the main approaches, methodical principles underlying the organization of the educational process, the priority tasks and advantages of the introduced forms of education are singled out, the tendencies of their development are outlined, in particular in modern conditions. The methods, organizational forms and means used during blended and distance learning are described, specific examples of their introduction at Kyiv International University are given, as well as the schematic structure of the methodical system of the proposed forms of education that ensure the quality of university education. It is proved that blended and distance learning solves the problems of individualization, intensification and optimization of education, is the most effective evolution of the traditional model of learning7

One of the important areas that has undergone significant changes due to the epidemic and the quarantine measures caused by it is education. The need to quickly change the forms of conducting classes has become a real test for teachers of performing disciplines of a sports profile, and prompted them to search and experiment in the use of information technologies and technical means in the educational process. Since sports education in general and the teaching of academic disciplines that form sports skills have their own specific differences, the use of information technologies in this area has caused a number of problems that require separate detailed consideration. Distance learning has become mainstream in the context of global quarantine. Therefore, this problem inspired the consideration in the article of such issues as the methodology for preparing and conducting practical classes, as well as the use of information technologies and technical means such as video products, multimedia presentations, encyclopedias, simulators and games that are used in the educational process of students and will help it. improvement. The use of these technical means and information technologies contributes to the improvement of education in conditions of quarantine restrictions, as well as to the improvement of the perception of information through new technologies, methods and means. With the use of information technologies, students become more clear about the material of the disciplines of a sports profile.

The subject of this research is the influencing factors of information and communication technologies upon the theory and practice of teaching English language in the institutional and noninstitutional environments. The object of this research is the analysis of structure and content of Android and iPhone applications. Special attention is given to the development of mobile services as a prevalent model of using information and communication technologies, which open the possibility for individualized range of hyperconnectivity regulated by resource of a personal phone. The authors examine distance learning, which allows implementing innovations and creativity, employs new technologies, performs social task on expansion of technologically uniform educational space. The main conclusions are as follows: 1) of e-learning pedagogy requires the results of pedagogical practice in both, institutional and noninstitutional programs and courses; 2) the modern online learning of English language features new methods of implementation of hyperconnectivity in the Internet on the basis of technological and pedagogical innovations, active interactions and common culture. The scientific novelty consists in the statement that the use of distance learning is especially relevant on the current stage of modernization of education system, as it incorporates innovation technologies of teacher-student interaction. The current situation is characterized by the long-term trends associated with globalization socioeconomic relations, as well as by COVID-19 pandemic that requires taking immediate and radical measures in order to ensure protection of educational community from possible disastrous consequences in record time. The primary task of the authors consists in the analysis of relevant aspects of using information and communication technologies of teaching foreign languages, namely mobile applications, as well as in substantiation of the thesis on transition from collective connectivism towards individual hyperconnectivity in the educational process.

Problem and goal. In the context of digital globalization traditional forms of communication at the university are forced to transform in order to meet educational objectives. However, the established practice of building communications in universities in new formats has revealed a number of problems of ineffective interaction between participants in the educational process. The article aims to identify the main features of the transformation of the forms of communication in distance learning at the university. Particular attention is paid to the conditions for the formation of an effective digital dialogue in the university-student-teacher triad. Materials and research methods. The study of the transformation of communication is considered from an economic, pedagogical, and philological (semiological) point of view. The economic approach includes consideration of resource constraints that prevent the development of various forms of communication in the educational space, and an assessment of the effectiveness of the communication process. The pedagogical approach allows to evaluate the technologies and formats of communication in online learning. The semiological approach is focused on the choice of techniques and schemes that are adequate to digital dialogue. The empirical research was carried out using the questionnaire. The survey involved 2–4-year students at the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin. Research results. In the 2020–2021 academic year, students were able to adapt to rapid inclusion in distance learning and the use of digital technologies, but half of the students prefer to return to the traditional format of education, 39% of students for a mixed (blended learning) format. It was found that if the verbal forms of communication when transferring the course content from the teacher to the students were not transformed taking into account the digital environment and online learning, then this could lead to unnecessary complexity for perception (according to 54.5% of respondents), the appearance of information noise, as a consequence, the appearance of discomfort (for 40% of the respondents) and attempts to avoid communication (for 18%). 52% of students indicated that their opinion about distance improved over time. Discussion and conclusions. The authors concluded that digital skills today mean more than digital literacy. In communication, it is important to develop new technologies, techniques and tools that are adequate to new educational and upbringing tasks. And in modern conditions, burdened by pandemic threats, other ways of digitalizing the university with the construction of effective communications are rather impossible.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the forced and widespread transition to distance learning has required restructuring of the entire educational process at the universities, quick adoption of new tools for work in the digital environment, and adaptation to new ways of communication in the teacher-student system. In May 2020, we conducted an anonymous online survey of the 172 Russian university teachers to determine their readiness to distance learning in conditions of self-isolation during the COVID 19 pandemic. We determine that teachers of all ages, different work experience, and various specializations have a similar (not quite successful) level of psychological state when working in a completely remote mode. We find that teachers’ self-assessment of their readiness for distance learning also has medium-low values. The teachers were not prepared to work exclusively in the remote format, regardless of their gender, age, work experience and specialization. Our analysis shows that teachers’ self-assessment of their professional skills differs between a group of young teachers that do not have PhD (which presumably have higher motivation for career growth, self-development, pursuing a PhD degree, promotion) and a group of senior teachers holding PhDs (who, at the time of the survey, had a significant professional status). Our conclusion suggests that the respondents have quite successfully overcome a high psychological burden and the need for a full transition to distance learning, which accompanied their work during the pandemic. Furthermore, we find that Russian university teachers have a high adaptive potential. A quick transition to remote mode, the need to master new technologies and forms of training did not pose any insurmountable problems for the Russian university teachers but became new motivators for their professional development. Further work requires additional research regarding the high "psychological cost" of such restructuring of consciousness and professional activity.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore what options the adult learner has for continued learning and what role universities are playing in providing net-based education. Current options for lifelong learning and improvement opportunities in the educational process are described based on an assessment inspired by principles of lean management. Design/methodology/approach – Sweden is chosen as an example. The current level of net-based university education and the demand for it is assessed using official Swedish data. Lean management principles are used as a starting point to define parameters for interest for the adult learner. These parameters are then converted into a five-level scale for assessing current performance with focus on university courses. The authors also study how Swedish County Councils manage their employee education and carry out a check of courses offered by massive open online course providers. Findings – Lean management principles in combination with customer focus seem to present relevant parameters for assessing distance education. Preliminary results indicate that lean lifelong learning has a considerable improvement potential. The main reasons for this potential seem to be more of a bureaucratic and political nature, whereas technology and resources appear to be less of an issue. Practical implications – The results have implications for both universities and organisations. The pressure on universities to become more customer-focussed, while at the same time, cost-effectiveness is likely to increase. Originality/value – Using the customer perspective for educational services and applying lean principles to education.

The current study was conducted to learn the factors affecting students' satisfaction in distance learning (DL) and to understand students' perceptions of the barriers to their studies. The study consists of two parts: qualitative and quantitative. In the quantitative part, survey was used, and in the qualitative part, case study was used. The research covers the academic year of 2012-13. The results reveals students' perspectives, expectations, experiences, and satisfaction about the newly established distance learning program and based on these give important notes and suggest to redesign and rethink teaching methodologies in distance education especially in high uncertainty avoidance cultures like Turkey.
