One of the contemporary problems being experienced by Muslims is their backwardness in current science development. The progress of science in general is currently dominated by the West. Theme of this paper is the development of science and emergence of theories around it. To elaborate the theme the author will first briefly review the sequence of the development of science in the path of history to show the positive contributions of Muslims. Next is the analysis of theories proposed by Popper, Kuhn and Lakatos. After that, this paper attempt to describe the significance of these theories to the development of Islamic sciences while connecting them with Fazlur Rahman’s view about normative Islam and historical Islam in order to obtain an alternative portrait of the direction of future development.

Tourism is one of the most important sectors in Indonesia after oil, natural gas and palm oil. The development of tourism in Indonesia is currently growing rapidly. This is because the tourism sector is very promising and provides benefits to many parties from the government, the public and the private sector. One of the special tourism objects in the West Mangoli sub-district of Sula Islands, North Maluku province is the Pas Ipa beach, however, the Pas Ipa beach tourism object has never been evaluated as an academic base for future development. This research uses descriptive quantitative method. With the physical parameters observed in Pas Ipa beach tourism objects, namely the diversity of flora, beach types, depth, slope, accessibility, brightness, beach width and tides. Besides that, the observation of infrastructure was also carried out. The results of the research on the Pas Ipa beach tourism object show that it is very suitable for the land for the Pas Ipa beach tourism object, which is in the S1 category. However, the facilities and infrastructure at Pas Ipa beach tourism objects need to be considered and improved.

Western and Eastern philosophical cultures have different perspectives on inquiring about the nature of reality. These influences have shaped the approach to what qualifies as science in the West and Spiritual Inquiry in the East. These perspectives are intimately related to the topic of the reliability of scientific theories and spiritual inquiry and the ultimate purpose of both approaches. This paper mainly examines whether there is something to be gained from an Eastern way of thought and presents its benefits given that our current science has largely been influenced by Western thought. However, any evaluation of both perspectives must also contemplate how future science may be advanced by incorporating these complementary approaches.

On account of the diverse fuel situation on the Continent, boiler development since the 1914–18 war has been very different from that of Great Britain. The paper shows how combustion appliances such as travelling-grate stokers, grates for inferior coal, for lignites, and for pulverized fuel combustion, have been designed. It became necessary for boiler installations to be designed for higher pressures and, over a comparatively short period, extensive experiments were carried out which led to various new designs in boilers, superheaters, economizers, air heaters, etc. A possible line of future development is covered by reference to a scheme put into operation in 1930 by the West Moravian Electricity Works, Ltd., and the author concludes that two types of power station, i.e. the low pressure pit-head station for the burning of inferior fuel, and the high-pressure power station with district heating in towns, using fuels of low ash and water content, would form the ideal combination for the future.

Considering the future development and general solution of the problem under consideration and also the high precision attainable by astronomical observations, the following procedure may be the most rational approach:1. On the main tectonic plates of the Earth’s crust, powerful movable radio telescopes should be mounted at the same points where standard optical instruments are installed. There should be two stations separated by a distance of about 6 to 8000 kilometers on each plate. Thus, we obtain a fundamental polyhedron embracing the whole Earth with about 10 to 12 apexes, and with its sides represented by VLBI.

Approximately 60,000 tons per day of waste from taconite mining, tailing, are added to the west arm of Lake Superior at Silver Bay. Tailings contain nearly the same amount of quartz and amphibole asbestos, cummingtonite and actinolite in fibrous form. Cummingtonite fibres from 0.01μm in length have been found in the water supply for Minnesota municipalities. The purpose of the research work was to develop a method for asbestos fibre counts and identification in water and apply it for the enumeration of fibres in water samples collected(a) at various stations in Lake Superior at two depth: lm and at the bottom.(b) from various rivers in Lake Superior Drainage Basin.

In the West Nile District of Uganda lives a population of white rhino—those relies of a past age, cumbrous, gentle creatures despite their huge bulk—which estimates only 10 years ago, put at 500. But poachers live in the area, too, and official counts showed that white rhino were being reduced alarmingly. By 1959, they were believed to be diminished to 300.

Abstract When an individual falls due to a nonwork-related episode of dizziness, hits their head and sustains injury, do workers’ compensation laws consider such injuries to be compensable? Bearing in mind that each state makes its own laws, the answer depends on what caused the loss of consciousness, and the second asks specifically what happened in the fall that caused the injury? The first question speaks to medical causation, which applies scientific analysis to determine the cause of the problem. The second question addresses legal causation: Under what factual circumstances are injuries of this type potentially covered under the law? Much nuance attends this analysis. The authors discuss idiopathic falls, which in this context means “unique to the individual” as opposed to “of unknown cause,” which is the familiar medical terminology. The article presents three detailed case studies that describe falls that had their genesis in episodes of loss of consciousness, followed by analyses by lawyer or judge authors who address the issue of compensability, including three scenarios from Arizona, California, and Pennsylvania. A medical (scientific) analysis must be thorough and must determine the facts regarding the fall and what occurred: Was the fall due to a fit (eg, a seizure with loss of consciousness attributable to anormal brain electrical activity) or a faint (eg, loss of consciousness attributable to a decrease in blood flow to the brain? The evaluator should be able to fully explain the basis for the conclusions, including references to current science.
