In developing countries where population grows rapidly, air pollution has been a serious issue for the public health. Among various pollutants, fine particulate matters (PM2.5) is associated with distinct serious health problems, e.g., asthma, cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. To raise the awareness of the community and decision makers in order to solve the air-pollution problem, the level of the PM2.5 index should be monitored. In this paper, we propose a dashboard system for monitoring air pollution based on PM2.5. A portable device (i.e., Edimax Airbox) was installed inside the building of Stikom Surabaya college to measure the PM2.5 level. The sensors in this device read the PM2.5 level, air temperature, and humidity level, and then it transmits the data to the cloud service. The cloud platform makes the collected data accessible through an open data API that allows our system to interact with the data in the JSON format. The data then was parsed in a web server and visualized in a dashboard system. The dashboard system provides two indicators, the live PM2.5 sensor measurement and the measurement history. The dashboard successfully visualized the indicator of air pollution index, based on PM2.5 standards by WHO and Dinas Kesehatan Indonesia (the Indonesian Department of Health).  Within seven days of the study, PM2.5 level reaches the maximum value of 65 µg/m3 with the average value of 39.36 µg/m3 on July 8, 2018. This is an alarming rate given that the indoor average level threshold of PM2.5 by WHO is 25 µg/m3.

Although different sectors are facing consequences, the most important sectors, health and economy are the most affected. When the pandemic start, it is not known when it will last for different health and economic planning. Therefore, it is very important for decision makers and the public to know the prediction and expectations of the future of these challenges to successfully goes over it. In this work, the current situation is analyzed. Then, an expectation model is developed based on the statistics of the pandemic using a growth rate model based on the exponential and logarithmic increase rate. Based on the available open data about the pandemic spread, the model successfully can predict the future expectations. The model expects the time and the maximum number of cases of the pandemic. The model uses the equilibrium point as the day the of cases decreases. The model can be used for planning and development of strategies to overcome the challenges.

The influence of natural environmental factors and social factors on children’s viral diarrhea remains inconclusive. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effects of temperature, precipitation, air quality, and social attention on children’s viral diarrhea in temperate regions of China by using the distribution lag nonlinear model (DLNM). We found that low temperature affected the increase in children’s viral diarrhea infection for about 1 week, while high temperature and heavy precipitation affected the increase in children’s viral diarrhea infection risk for at least 3 weeks. As the increase of the air pollution index may change the daily life of the public, the infection of children’s viral diarrhea can be restrained within 10 days, but the risk of infection will increase after 2 weeks. The extreme network search may reflect the local outbreak of viral diarrhea, which will significantly improve the infection risk. The above factors can help the departments of epidemic prevention and control create early warnings of high-risk outbreaks in time and assist the public to deal with the outbreak of children’s viral diarrhea.

Pollution is currently a significant issue arising awareness throughout the world. In Thailand, pollution can often be seen in any part of the country. Air pollution is pointed as an urgent problem. This pollution has not damaged only to human health and lives, it has destroyed environment, and possibly leading to violence. In Phattalung, air pollution is affecting to the residents’ lives. Especially, when the residents who are mostly agriculturists have not managed the waste resulted from the farm. In Phattalung, at the moment, there are many pig farms, big and small. Some of them are only for consuming for a family, some, however, are being consumed for the business which pigs will be later purchased by big business companies. Therefore, concerning pollution, the researcher and the fund giver were keen to focus on the points of the air pollution of the small pig farms. This is because it has been said that those farms have not been aware on the pollution issue caused by the farms. Farm odor is very interesting which can probably lead to following problems. The researcher also hopes that this research can be used as a source of information by the government offices in order to be made even as a policy or a proper legal measurement. As the results, the study shows that, first, more than half of the samples had smelled the farm odor located nearby their communities, though it had not caused many offenses. Second, the majority had decided not to act or response in order to solve the odor problem, but some of them had informed the officers. The proper solutions in reducing offenses caused by pig farm odor were negotiation and mediation. Last, the majority does not perceive about the process under the Public Health Act B.E. 2535.

Indoor air pollution in closed room is one of the air pollution that gives serious threats to human health. One of them come from vehicle gas emissions in closed parking area. This research identifies and analyses CO concentration measured in Mall X parking man’s breathing zone with closed parking area and in Mall Y semi-opened parking area. CO measurement carried out by passive sampling method using Personal Dosimeter Tubes. Measurement result of CO gas concentration to parking man’s breathing zone in Mall X was 25 – 81,25 ppm with average value in 50 ± 26,15 ppm. Meanwhile CO gas concentration in Mall Y gave result 3,13 – 12,5 ppm with average value in 7,88 ± 4,36 ppm. Correlation value between CO concentration and its intake in Mall X area was 0,9983, meanwhile correlation value between CO concentration and its intake in Mall Y area was 0,9903. It was concluded that CO gas concentration measured in parking man’s breathing zone influenced the differences of CO intake value in significance value.

The rapid changes in science and technology witnessed in recent decades have significantly contributed to the arousal of the awareness by decision-makers and the public as a whole of the need to strengthen the connection between outreach activities of universities and research institutes and the activities of educational institutions, with a central role played by schools. While the relevance of the problem is nowadays unquestioned, no unique and fully satisfactory solution has been identified. In the present paper we would like to contribute to the discussion on the subject by reporting on an ongoing project aimed to teach Particle Physics in primary schools. We will start from the past and currently planned activities in this project in order to establish a broader framework to describe the conditions for the fruitful interplay between researchers and teachers. We will also emphasize some aspects related to the dissemination of outreach materials by research institutions, in order to promote the access and distribution of scientific information in a way suited to the different age of the target students.

AbstractCRISPR-Cas9 is a revolutionary technology because it is precise, fast and easy to implement, cheap and components are readily accessible. This versatility means that the technology can deliver a timely end product and can be used by many stakeholders. In plant cells, the technology can be applied to knockout genes by using CRISPR–Cas nucleases that can alter coding gene regions or regulatory elements, alter precisely a genome by base editing to delete or regulate gene expression, edit precisely a genome by homology-directed repair mechanism (cellular DNA), or regulate transcriptional machinery by using dead Cas proteins to recruit regulators to the promoter region of a gene. All these applications can be for: 1) Research use (Non commercial), 2) Uses related product components for the technology itself (reagents, equipment, toolkits, vectors etc), and 3) Uses related to the development and sale of derived end products based on this technology. In this contribution, we present a prototype report that can engage the community in open, inclusive and collaborative innovation mapping. Using the open data at the Lens.org platform and other relevant sources, we tracked, analyzed, organized, and assembled contextual and bridged patent and scholarly knowledge about CRISPR-Cas9 and with the assistance of a new Lens institutional capability, The Lens Report Builder, currently in beta release, mapped the public and commercial innovation pathways of the technology. When scaled, this capability will also enable coordinated editing and curation by credentialed experts to inform policy makers, businesses and private or public investment.
