As a business institution, the objectives of Islamic banking is profitability. The profit can be achieved if Islamic banking distributes financing both with the principle of buying and selling, profit sharing or services. The focus of the study was on financing with the principle of profit sharing (Mudharabah and Musyarakah). Profit sharing has been studied as a variable that can increase profitability, but there are no definite conclusions. Thus it is necessary to study whether the actual financing of profit sharing affects the level of profitability directly or through certain business categories. The type of research is causality research with a quantitative approach. The population is Sharia Commercial Banks and Sharia Business Units in the period of January 2016 to December 2018. The data analysis uses Partial Least Square (PLS). The results shows that financing with profit sharing principles is proven to directly have an influence on profitability but in a negative coefficient. This study also shows that the higher the profit sharing financing, the lower the level of profitability. However, when the revenue sharing is channeled through SMEs and non-SMEs, the results become positive and significant to profitability

A profit and lost sharing system is an agreement between a financier (shahibul mal) and a capital manager (mudharib) to run a particular economic business with a profit sharing and risk loss scheme. At this time a lot of literature encourages PLS schemes as the main mode of Islamic banking system, but in practice it is avoided. The research aims to theoretically evaluate the causes of PLS contracts in Islamic banking fail to be fully accepted and be excellent for investors in Islamic Banking. The results showed that the use of PLS (mudharabah and musharakah) schemes in Islamic (sharia) Banking in Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey and Morocco did show a low percentage of total financing. There are internal factors and external factors that hinder the development of PLS schemes. Internal factors include moral hazard concern from partners, low trust in partners, weak monitoring systems, weak capabilities and collateral from partner companies. While external factors include; public literacy on Islamic banking products, government support, and supervision from regulators. Some of these factors arise because of a misunderstanding of the PLS system. Therefore, it is necessary to reprogram the perception of Shahibul mal and mudarib in the PLS scheme. This research is expected to contribute to the development and improvement of PLS schemes in Islamic Banking.

Internationalization provides various strategic benefits to the SMEs. It might increase the firm’s sales and revenue and be able to sustain in the economy for a longer period. However, the lack of information may become a challenge to the business, thus it is not easy to carry out the internationalization successfully due to limited resources and capabilities. On the other hand, influential factors on SMEs internalization have been discussed in developed countries, yet some developing countries are still struggling for empirical evidence. Some SMEs are facing difficulties in entering the global market as they have zero or less information on it while some of them successfully entered the market and can compete internationally. This indicates that every SMEs has the opportunity to internationalize their goods or services with proper understanding and better information about the global market. Prior studies have been carried out on factors influencing internationalization of SMEs however this study has been done specifically on internationalization of the SMEs in Malaysia. The determinants of internationalization investigated are internal factors, external factors, and networking, using partial least square method. The outcome of this study indicated that external factors, internal factors, and networking do not have any significant relationship with SMEs decision to internationalize.

AbstractThis study was aimed at analyzing the influence factors of student characteristics, the internal factors, and external factors of self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) and student academic achievement as well as the influence factors of SDLR on student academic achievement. This study was conducted by using a survey design on 111 students of the fourth year of Tadulako University Medical Undergraduate Program by using questionnaires to measure internal factors, external factors, and SDLR. The students’ cumulative grade point (GPA) was used to indicate academic achievement. The data were analyzed quantitatively using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis tools with alternative variance or component based SEM method called Partial Least Square (PLS). The results show that the characteristics of the students and the internal factors significantly affect the SDLR and the students’ academic achievement, while the external factors have no effect on the SDLR and the students’ academic achievement. The factors that have a higher effect on SDLR and student achievement are internal factors. The results also show that SDLR does not affect the students’ academic achievement.

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of increasing PS/RS and PLS financing and profitability at Islamic Commercial Banks (BUS) in Indonesia during the 2015-2019 period, and experiencing a decline from 2019 to 2020. PS/RS and PLS financing can use mudharabah and musharakah contract schemes. Mudharabah financing is based on profit sharing, while Musharaka is based on profit-loss sharing. This study aims to obtain empirical evidence regarding the effect of non-performing financing and third-party funds on profitability through PS/RS and PLS financing. The population used in this study were all Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia in the 2015-2020 period. The data analysis technique used is Partial Least Square with SmartPLS software version 3. The results of the study found a direct effect of non-performing financing on profitability. The results of the study did not find a direct effect of non-performing financing on PS/RS and PLS financing. In addition, third party funds do not have a direct effect on profit-sharing and profitability-based financing. The results also did not find an indirect effect of non-performing financing and third-party funds on profitability.

The main problems of Third Parties Fund and profit and loss sharing financing in Islamic banking in Indonesia are influenced by external factors have known as macroeconomics. Third parties funds as an intervening variable are what distinguish research conducted by researchers from previous research. The method used in this study uses the path analysis method with a trimming model. Processing data using IBM SPSS 25 tools. The results of this study indicate Macroeconomics simultaneously affects Third-Parties Funds. Partially, the BI Rate, GDP, and IHSG have an effect on Third Party Funds seen from the probability value 0.000 <0.05, where only inflation does not affect Third-Parties Funds. Meanwhile, the macroeconomy simultaneously influences the profit-sharing where the effect partially shows that inflation, the BI Rate, IHSG and Third-Parties Funds have a significant effect on profit-sharing financing. From the above findings, the macroeconomy indirectly through Third-Parties Funds is better for profit-sharing financing, because the ups and downs of Third Parties Funds significantly affect profit-sharing financing in Islamic banking.
