Abstract: Writing a lesson objective is still a challenging task for the English Department students of Lambung Mangkurat University when they do their micro teaching practice in Praktek Pengenalan Lapangan (PPL) I Course. The formulated lesson objectives have to include the ABCD elements -Audience/Actor, Behavior, Condition, Degree- which require distinct characteristics for each. The study examines the lesson objectives of the lesson plans made by the English Department students of Lambung Mangkurat University for PPL I Course in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. There are 91 lesson plans were collected, and there are 91 lesson objectives investigated. The findings discuss the formulation of ABCD requirements in the lesson objectives. It is recommended that the students’ English proficiency must be enhanced because the formulation of a good lesson objective is closely related with the ability to produce grammatically correct sentence. Key words: Lesson Objectives, Audience, Behavior, Condition, Degree Abstrak: Menulis tujuan pembelajaran masih merupakan tugas yang menantang bagi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat ketika mereka melakukan praktek pembelajaran mikro dalam Mata Kuliah Praktek Pengenalan Lapangan (PPL) I. Tujuan pembelajaran yang dirumuskan harus mencakup unsur-unsur ABCD -Audiens/Aktor, Perilaku, Kondisi, Taraf- yang membutuhkan karakteristik berbeda untuk masing-masing unsur. Studi ini meneliti tujuan pembelajaran dari Rencana Pembelajaran (RP) yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat untuk Mata Kuliah PPL I Course di Tahun Akademik 2010/2011. Ada 91 rencana pembelajaran dikumpulkan, dan ada 91 tujuan pembelajaran yang diteliti. Temuan membahas perumusan dari syarat ABCD di tujuan pembelajaran. Disarankan bahwa kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa harus ditingkatkan karena perumusan tujuan pembelajaran yang baik terkait erat dengan kemampuan untuk menghasilkan kalimat dengan tata bahasa yang benar. Kata kunci: Tujuan Pembelajaran, Audiens/Aktor, Perilaku, Kondisi, Taraf

This study is aimed at seeing formulation of Specific Instructional Objectives (SIO) developed in the sciences materials by students conducting teaching practice at SMA.  This study used descriptive design and assigned subjects of the whole students from Biology Department of UNISBA year 2012/2013.  Data of the study included: (1) SIO and its characteristics of its elements: compehensiveness, appropriateness, specification, and attainment, (2)  organization of the SIO referring to ABCD, audience, behavior, condition, degree.  The study found that SIO that is appropriate to the criteria are:  (1) appropriate to the good criteria 58.04% (good), (2) appropriate to the elements of SIO is 98.34%, and (3) appropriate structure regarding level II is 72.32% good, and 23.66% fair.

Abstract To produce good writings, the students need to know how to organize Theme and Rheme in their writings to make their writings coherent. This organization of Theme and Rheme is known as Thematic Progression. This classroom action research was conducted to know whether Thematic Progression really improved the coherence of the students?óÔé¼Ôäó writings. The population in this research consisted of 104 second semester students taking Paragraph-Based Writing course in 2008-2009 academic year at English Department, Faculty of Languages and Letters, Dian Nuswantoro University. They were given a treatment about Thematic Progression. After receiving this treatment, they were asked to write English paragraphs using certain paragraph development, and the results were evaluated. The cycle was iterated for three times. The sample of this research was taken randomly using purposive random sampling. Forty?é?á students were taken as the sample, especially those who had the complete marks for the whole cycles. The result showed the significant improvement on the coherence on the students?óÔé¼Ôäó writings?é?á indicated by the increased mean scores in every cycle. The thematic progression pattern the students mostly employed in developing their paragraphs is theme reiteration. The second preferred is zig-zag pattern, while multiple pattern was rarely employed in their writings. Key words: Coherence, Rheme, Students?óÔé¼Ôäó writings, Thematic Progression patterns, Theme.

One of phenomena that occur in the educational world is the issue of discrepancies that occur between theory the pre-service teacher learned in college with implementation when they should teach in thereal fields (schools). Problem Based Learning (PBL) becomes one of the efforts to bridge the existing problems. This research is conducted to find out the extend of Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Micro Teaching course since the course must be accomplished by students before carrying out practical activities in the real field in the school at teaching training program. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. And in this research the writer uses case study as a research design to find out the purpose of the research. The participants of the the research are 8 students from a class of micro teaching course in English Department of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. In this paper, The Students as the Pre Service Teacher(s) are coded PST(s). The writer uses observation as the instruments of the research. Theory of Miles and Huberman are used to collect data from observation. Regarding to the discussion above, the four aspects of competences of effective teacher are shown in the teaching practice done by the students of Micro teaching course that apply Problem Based Learning (PBL). The majority results of the observation explain that applying Problem Based Learning in Micro Teaching course develops pre-service teachers competence in their teaching in classroom. This research shows pre-service teachers can integrate their competences and create good performance in their teaching practice.

The study is aimed at developing the Idea Listing Technique (ILT) to enhance the students‟ writing ability. The Classroom Action Research was applied in this study. The subjects of the study were 31 students, the students taking the course of Writing II, of the third semester of English Department of one State Islamic College at Palangka Raya, Indonesia, in the 2012/2013 academic year. The findings show that the implementation of ILT can enhance the students‟ ability in writing expository paragraph. It is indicated by the enhancements of the percentage of the students achieving the score greater than or equal to C (60-69), and of the percentage of their involvement in the writing activities during the implementation of ILT in Cycle I and II. Thus, the enhancement of the students‟ ability in writing expository paragraph can be reached but it should follow the appropriate procedures of the implementation of ILT having been developed.Keywords: Idea Listing Technique, Writing Ability, Paragraph Writing, Expository Paragraph

This exploratory correlational study addresses the issue of Yemeni EFL Learners’ Future Self-images, Ideal Self-images and Ought-to Self-image and their relationship to the English language proficiency, mainly, speaking and writing --fourth level students, Department of English Sana’a University of the academic year of 2017-2018. It also aims at exploring which of the two Future Self-images addressed is more evident amongst Yemeni EFL learners. In addition, the study attempts to ascertain the role of gender on Future Self-images. Data gathering instruments were all set and validated for the purpose of the study; which were Future Self-images questionnaire (12 Ideal Self-image items & 12 Ought-to Self-image items), English proficiency (speaking & and writing) tests and two Scoring Scales. Fifty two Students (12 males and 40 females (the sample) took both the Future Self-images questionnaire and the English proficiency tests in the academic year 2017-2018. and two Data gathering instruments were all set and validated for the purpose of the study; which were Future Self-images questionnaire (12 Ideal Self-image items & 12 Ought-to Self-image items), English proficiency (speaking & and writing) tests and two Scoring Scales. Fifty two Students (12 males and 40 females (the sample) took both the Future Self-images questionnaire and the English proficiency tests in the academic year 2017-2018. Descriptive analyses— frequencies, and, t-test for independent groups, and Pearson-product moment correlation— were utilized to analyze the data. Results show that Yemeni EFL students have higher Ought-to Self-image mean scores (3.6) than Ideal Self-image mean scores (3.04) Further, each of the two Future Self-images, Ideal Self-image and Ought-to Self-image has a bipolar direction in regard to male and female students. While, female students have higher mean Ideal Self-image scores (2.6) toward learning English, their counterpart male students have higher mean Ought-to Self-image scores (3.15). Furthermore results revealed a significant and strong relationship between Yemeni EFL learners’ ---Ideal Self-images—Ought-to Self-image-- and speaking and writing proficiency respectively and uniquely. This article ends with some recommendations and suggestions for future research.

Each learner has different needs in learning, as well as the students at the English Department Sawerigading University Makassar. This study aims at determining the effectiveness of a needs analysis to design a syllabus for the speaking 1 course to enhance the students’ communicative competence. Research and Development Methods (R & D) are used with three systematic steps: input, development, and output. The input step begins with a needs analysis (NA) involving 40 respondents who are chosen purposively. The data are collected through NA questionnaires and they are analyzed descriptively. Development Step is made to formulate the objectives and course targets that are then used to determine the course subject of speaking 1. The output step is done to design lesson plans and prototype of teaching materials. This study has found a teaching material development methodology that has resulted lesson plans and prototypes for a unit of instruction-based resource needs. This methodology can be used by designers or lecturers to develop other English teaching materials in various courses.

This research aimed to develop an appropriate module based on the writing needs of the learners. The author took the fourth-semester learners of the English Department at the State Islamic Institute of Palopo in the academic year 2018/2019. The author involved 40 learners as her participants. The method of the research was Research and Development. The author used the ADDIE model. The ADDIE model consisted of five stages, namely analysis, design, develop, implementation and evaluation. The instruments of the research were questionnaires and documents. The data were analyzed quantitatively qualitatively. The results of the content, the design, and the media experts validation showed that the module got good and very good category. The writing I module quality based on the learners’ response in the field try-out showed that 75% of learners very agree and 25% of learners agree with the materials presented in the module. The result of this research hopefully gives a contribution to some parties, especially to the writing I lecturers and to the other researchers.

The study entitled "Improving teacher competence in preparing syllabus and lesson plans through ongoing academic supervision in SMP (Public Middle Schools) Negeri 2 Sabang" raised the issue of whether through continuous academic supervision it can improve teacher competence in preparing syllabi and lesson plans. This study aims to improve the competence of teachers in Sabang 2 Public Middle School in preparing syllabus and lesson plans. The subjects of this study were teachers of Sabang 2 Public Middle School in the 2016/2017 academic year, totaling 13 teachers, consisting of 10 PNS teachers and 3 non PNS teachers. The method used is the school action research method. Data collection is done by test and observation techniques. The study was conducted in 2 cycles. In the first cycle 31% of teachers obtained the appropriate syllabus and lesson plan and were considered good and in cycle 2 there were 100% of teachers who had syllabus and lesson plans that were appropriate and considered good. The conclusion of this research is that through ongoing academic supervision scientifically proven to improve teacher competence in preparing syllabus and lesson plans.
