This study is aimed at finding the relationship between knowledge of schemata and text comprehension. It was conducted at English Department of State University of Padang on the fifth semester in the academic year of 2009/2010.There were 38 students as the sample using cluster sampling technique. The instruments used were multiple choice tests. The quantitative data were analized by using simple correlation and regression. It was found that there is a relationship between knowledge of schemata and text comprehension. It means that someone who has good knowledge of schemata will have good text comprehension. The equation is Ŷ = 13.39 + 0.95X1. Its correlation coefficient is 0.6962. The knowledge of schemata gives contribution 48.47% to text comprehension. The findings can be beneficial for the teachers as a consideration that they can help students to activate their schemata in order to get good text comprehension. The research aims at analyzing teacher talk in classroom interaction based on Foreign Language Interaction Analysis (FLINT) system in speaking classroom of English department of Language and Literature Faculty of State University of Makassar. The method used in this research was a descriptive method. The instruments were FLINT system. The participants of the research were the lecturer and students of a speaking class during the second semester of academic year 2011/2012 at English Department of Language and Literature Faculty of State University of Makassar. The results of the research are: teacher talk of giving praises and encouragement is approximately less, the asking questions category dominate the teacher talk category, which means it is in the beneficial function. The lecturer asked the questions to the students and the students responded it well by speaking eagerly. The utterances of giving direction occurred in relatively short times. While in student talk, there are students’ problems and difficulties in speaking. The extracts of student talk in classroom interaction revealed the students problems such as the lack of vocabulary, anxiety, inability to form ideas in English language form, and grammar error. The teacher talk frequency was still excessive, but the lecturer made group and pair discussions to balance the effective talk for students in student-student interaction. Keywords: Classroom, interaction, FLINT, Speaking

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this study was to investigate conjunctive adverbs in undergraduate students’ articles. This study employed descriptive quantitative design which focused on the corpus analysis. The samples of the study were 73 articles selected from English department students’ articles at State University of Malang in the graduation academic year 2012/2013. After collecting all the articles, the researcher used the data that were classified into four types and the function was described using theory of conjunctive adverbs proposed by Halliday and Hasan; they are additive, adversative, causal and temporal. The instruments used to analyze the data were Ant.conc 3.41w sofware and interview guide. The results showed that there were 20 conjunctive adverbs in articles; causal categories (37%) were the mostly used by students writing, and then followed by adversative categories (26%), temporal categories (22%) and the last were additive categories (15%). The most frequent conjunctive adverbs was Because in causal categories which got 603 times (55.37%). Furthermore, the reason of students to choose conjunctive adverb Because as the most connectors used in the articles was because they think these conjunctive adverbs were the simplest and easiest connectors. The study is aimed at developing the Idea Listing Technique (ILT) to enhance the students‟ writing ability. The Classroom Action Research was applied in this study. The subjects of the study were 31 students, the students taking the course of Writing II, of the third semester of English Department of one State Islamic College at Palangka Raya, Indonesia, in the 2012/2013 academic year. The findings show that the implementation of ILT can enhance the students‟ ability in writing expository paragraph. It is indicated by the enhancements of the percentage of the students achieving the score greater than or equal to C (60-69), and of the percentage of their involvement in the writing activities during the implementation of ILT in Cycle I and II. Thus, the enhancement of the students‟ ability in writing expository paragraph can be reached but it should follow the appropriate procedures of the implementation of ILT having been developed.Keywords: Idea Listing Technique, Writing Ability, Paragraph Writing, Expository Paragraph

This research aimed to develop an appropriate module based on the writing needs of the learners. The author took the fourth-semester learners of the English Department at the State Islamic Institute of Palopo in the academic year 2018/2019. The author involved 40 learners as her participants. The method of the research was Research and Development. The author used the ADDIE model. The ADDIE model consisted of five stages, namely analysis, design, develop, implementation and evaluation. The instruments of the research were questionnaires and documents. The data were analyzed quantitatively qualitatively. The results of the content, the design, and the media experts validation showed that the module got good and very good category. The writing I module quality based on the learners’ response in the field try-out showed that 75% of learners very agree and 25% of learners agree with the materials presented in the module. The result of this research hopefully gives a contribution to some parties, especially to the writing I lecturers and to the other researchers.

This study aimed to find out what category of lecturer talks applied by lecturers in classroom interaction. This study was a descriptive survey. The participants were chosen by using purposive sampling technique where there were four English lecturers who taught at Second Semester Class of English Department of Baturaja University in the academic year of 2016/2017. The data were taken through observation, questionnaire and interview. Camera recorder and checklist were the instruments used in this study. The data were identified by using FLINT (Foreign Language Interaction) system as developed by Moskowitz (1971). The result of the study showed that the total of frequencies the deals with feeling were 9 or 1.6%, praises or encourages were 57 or 9.9%, uses ideas of students were 42 or 7.3%, asks questions were 199 or 34.6%, gives information were 92 or 16%, gives directions were 151 or 26.3% and criticizes student behavior were 25 or 4.3%. In conclusion, the category of lecturer applied by lecturers was asks questions in classroom interaction that the best ways to develop their role as an initiator and strategies that promote interaction in classroom activity. Abstract: Writing a lesson objective is still a challenging task for the English Department students of Lambung Mangkurat University when they do their micro teaching practice in Praktek Pengenalan Lapangan (PPL) I Course. The formulated lesson objectives have to include the ABCD elements -Audience/Actor, Behavior, Condition, Degree- which require distinct characteristics for each. The study examines the lesson objectives of the lesson plans made by the English Department students of Lambung Mangkurat University for PPL I Course in the Academic Year of 2010/2011. There are 91 lesson plans were collected, and there are 91 lesson objectives investigated. The findings discuss the formulation of ABCD requirements in the lesson objectives. It is recommended that the students’ English proficiency must be enhanced because the formulation of a good lesson objective is closely related with the ability to produce grammatically correct sentence. Key words: Lesson Objectives, Audience, Behavior, Condition, Degree Abstrak: Menulis tujuan pembelajaran masih merupakan tugas yang menantang bagi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat ketika mereka melakukan praktek pembelajaran mikro dalam Mata Kuliah Praktek Pengenalan Lapangan (PPL) I. Tujuan pembelajaran yang dirumuskan harus mencakup unsur-unsur ABCD -Audiens/Aktor, Perilaku, Kondisi, Taraf- yang membutuhkan karakteristik berbeda untuk masing-masing unsur. Studi ini meneliti tujuan pembelajaran dari Rencana Pembelajaran (RP) yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat untuk Mata Kuliah PPL I Course di Tahun Akademik 2010/2011. Ada 91 rencana pembelajaran dikumpulkan, dan ada 91 tujuan pembelajaran yang diteliti. Temuan membahas perumusan dari syarat ABCD di tujuan pembelajaran. The obejectives of this research are to know the improvement  of the students’ achievement in poetry mastery and their perception regarding to the semiotic method in teaching and learning poetry in  English Education Department, Languages and Art Faculty of State University of Medan. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of the research are the fifth semester of 37 students of 2013/2014 academic year. The data are collected by test in order to know the students’ achievment in poetry mastery. The students’ perception toward the implementation of the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry is collected by questionaire. The data are analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result of research shows that (1) the average score of the students’ achievement of poetry mastery is (71.75) or it increases (11,59) point from pre-test (60.16) and (2) in general, the students’ perception toward the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry are good and positive.

This study aimed to determine the effect of perception and motivation to Students Career Interests in Taxation of Departement of Accounting Faculty of Economics at the State University of Jakarta. This study used 75 students S1 Departement of Accounting, State University of Jakarta which is still active academic year 2010. Data used in this study is primary data and selection of samples using a convenience sampling method. The analytical tool used is multiple linear regression analysis at a significance level of 5%. The first phase of testing the validity and reliability of the statement of each variable. The second stage, performing variable regression perception and motivation towards a career in the field of taxation the interest of students. The results of testing the feasibility of the model shows that the two independent variables, namely perception and motivation affect the career interests of students in the field of taxation Accounting Department of Economics at the State University of Jakarta simultaneously.
