Since the 1998 reformation until the 2014 election, politics in our country was characterized by massive transactional practices. It had been regarding to money politics practiced very obvious in every political event in choosing either in the executives or the representative’s level. However, the more interesting thing, with the rampant practice of transactional culture in the legislative election, is that there were the only few of people who dared to against such issue. This research employs a qualitative research paradigm with using a case study approach in which researcher had found that a political modality of Aziz Kahar Muzakkar is examined in a very strong social capital. Communication strategies which were person campaign strategies, adhesive strategies, structural strategies, cultural strategies as well as the strategy of collaboration between religion and development massages and propaganda techniques. This research also reveals a dominant model of political communication messages was propaganda. The conclusion is that the number of legislative members having a limited budget could be elected in the current transactional politics era. The key for this is to strengthen and maintain social capital in the community, and the communication strategy is in accordance with the political modality owned during the election campaign.

This chapter uses a case study approach to explore the political choice phase of the political communication cycle (PCC) over time. Focusing on interest groups and detailing the long history of these organizations in America, the chapter primarily examines innovations made by four of the largest interest groups in American history: AARP, the Sierra Club, the National Rifle Association (NRA), and MoveOn.org. These four interest groups have spanned multiple political communication orders (PCOs) and their overall lack of innovativeness until recent years is tied to the distinct nature of their shared political communication goals. These goals are far narrower than campaigns or social movements and therefore are much less likely to motivate innovative efforts. These trends have started to change in the internet-based era as new organizational and communication strategies have opened up interest groups to greater innovation along the lines of MoveOn.org.

This study aimed to understand the impact and effects acquisition events have on an organisation’s brand equity. The literature highlighted a lack of pertinent research into the effects company acquisitions have on consumer-based brand equity (CBBE), especially what impact and consequences there may be on a brand that is acquired by another. This report investigated the overall acquisition process and proceeding effects the process had on an organisation’s CBBE. In order to achieve an in depth understanding, a case study approach was used. Here Rapha Racing Limited (RRL), a UK based up market manufacturer of cycling clothing and accessories for road riders, was explored. RRL was cited as it had recently experienced a £200 million acquisition by two heirs of the Walmart family. Primary research within the case took the form of surveying RRL consumers, interviewing RRL employees and a senior professional, who has been involved in numerous, high value company acquisitions. This multiple perspective approach allowed an insight into how RRL managed their brand throughout the acquisition and whether RRL managed to match, misjudge or exceed consumer brand expectations. This report found how RRL steadied the ship through a clear internal communication strategy with complete transparency between leadership and staff. However, it was found that RRL failed to apply the principle of transparency in their communications with consumers. The paper concludes that careful consideration of the acquiring party, protection of current business culture and systems as well as transparency with existing customers are vital components in controlling an organisation’s brand equity with an acquisition event.

AbstractBengkulu is located at above the meeting of Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates so it is very vulnerable to disasters. History records that Bengkulu once four times hit by the tsunami in 1797, 1833, 1861 and 2007. According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) there are 205 points of tsunami-prone areas, one of them is Pondok Besi Village in Teluk Segara District, Bengkulu City. This village is one of the villages that formed a village-based disaster alert group (Sibad). The strategy undertaken to reduce disaster risk is through strengthening the family's social capital, therefore the authors are interested in conducting research and analyzing "Disaster Mitigation Through Strengthening Family Social Capital in Pondok Besi Village, Bengkulu City”. The research method was a qualitative research with a case study approach. The results showed that disaster mitigation through strengthening family social capital was carried out through two things, first, improving the quality and quantity of family social interaction and trust through the use of communication technology, secondly increasing preparedness for disasters through strengthening family cooperation. From the results of the study it can be seen that disaster mitigation through strengthening family social capital has not run optimally, that because research informants have different interpretations of disaster mitigation, disaster mitigation is sometimes considered as an expecting disaster activity. This meaning influences the behavior of research informants on several activities that related to disaster mitigation.

PurposeThis study explores the different learning practices of Chinese incubators in Chongqing and Chengdu and delves into how these “learning huddles” influence incubatees' absorptive capacity (the ability to apply knowledge) to improve their chance of success (sustainable growth).Design/methodology/approachThis explorative study uses a qualitative case study approach by means of semi-structured interviews with business incubation managers and incubatees across three business incubators in Chengdu and Chongqing. The data are transcribed, coded and analyzed using an analytic map for the explanation of building and reflecting on the theoretical propositions, leading to a further understanding of the “learning huddle” mechanism.FindingsThe study finds that incubatees perceive that their absorptive capacity is increased through vicarious informal learning practices that promote access to networks and thereby builds social capital to improve their likelihood of success.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has limitations in sample size and design. The explorative case study approach uses a nonrandom case selection of three incubators in Chongqing and Chengdu and has a limited number of interviewees, which may lack representation of the general Chinese business incubation population and may not sufficiently be generalized beyond the sample itself.Practical implicationsThese findings have important implications for business incubation programs. Business incubators that build learning huddles (networks) create a nurturing shared learning environment, which is suitable for incubatees to collectively absorb knowledge at the early stage of their life cycle and improve their likelihood of sustainable growth.Social implicationsSince this study is limited to a Chinese context, it is also hoped that future researchers use the typology of business incubator learning practices to explore cross-culture variables, as these may influence the business incubation operations and performance.Originality/valueThis study adds to the discussion on how collective learning practices facilitate absorptive capacity and build social capital, which in turn improves incubatees' chance of sustainable growth and as such the authors hope that the learning practice's typology and how incubatees determine their success stimulates further research for measuring the likelihood of incubatees sustainable growth.
