The objective of this quantitative study was to identify the level of EI in the university student and to compare it to their academic performance. The 40 participants; 15 women and 25 men, aged between 18 and 22 years old, attending the Higher University Technical level, were selected through a non-random sampling. The Trait Meta Mood-Scale self-report test (TMMS24) was applied. Data were analyzed with the Spss 24 statistical program and the Pearson correlation test. The results show that there is no significant correlation between academic performance and global emotional intelligence, but, there is a significant difference in the variable of emotional clarity in young people in the first four-month period (3.70). They present a greater clarity compared with those in the fourth quarter (3.24). It is concluded that to study the relationship between EI and academic performance it is convenient to consider other variables that can influence the person, such as personality traits and intellectual capacity. Also it is recommended to include emotional competencies in the university curriculum, because they influence subsequent psychological adjustment and work performance.

Macrophage and Schwann cells are target cell on leprosy disease, where apoptotic is assumed as one of elimination mechanism of macrophage previously infected by M.leprae. Several study showed various result in apoptotic on leprosy disease. Apoptotic level can be evaluated by observing caspase-3 activity, an executioner caspase on cell death. This study is aimed to observe the relationship of caspase-3 expression with paucibacillary and multibacillary types of leprosy. We used observational analytic and cross sectional study with consecutive sampling method. The subject was leprosy patient which had been diagnosed on dermatovenereology division outpatient clinic Saiful Anwar Hospital, and fullfilled the inclusion-exclusion criteria. Total subject was 19 persons (11 multibacillary and 8 paucibacillary). Sampling was taken with punch biopsy on skin lession, followed by immunohistochemical staining with caspase-3 antibody, and caspase-3 expression was measured by ImmunoRatio method. Comparation test revealed significant difference (p<0.05%) between caspase-3 expression mean on paucibacillary patient (84.46%) compared to multibacillary patient (65.39%). Pearson correlation test revealed caspase-3 expression tend to be higher in paucibacillary patient than multibacillary (coefficient correlation -0.759). In conclusion, there is a significance relationship between caspase-3 expression with leprosy type.

AimsThis study was designed to explore the expression and distribution of silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD-1) in various regions of the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), as well as to assess potential correlations between the levels of these proteins and also between these proteins and the Braak stage of AD.MethodsIn the temporal and frontal cortices, hippocampus and cerebellum of 10 patients with AD and 10 age-matched control subjects, expression of SIRT1 and SOD-1, together with histopathology, were assessed by immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent stainings. Relationships between variables were examined with the Pearson correlation test.ResultsThe numbers of both SIRT1-positive and SOD-1-positive neurons and integrated optical density of immunohistochemical staining for these proteins in the temporal and frontal cortices, and hippocampus of patients with AD were significantly decreased than those in corresponding controls. In the case of the cerebellum, very weak expression of SIRT1 and obvious expression of SOD-1 were observed in granule cells, with no significant difference between AD and the control group. Interestingly, the protein levels between SIRT1 and SOD-1, as well as the level of SIRT1 or SOD-1 and Braak stage, were significantly correlated in neurons in all regions of the AD brains investigated except for the cerebellum.ConclusionsThese findings indicate that the reduced level of SIRT1 in the brains of patients with AD may be related to the decline in SOD-1 and neuropathological changes of this disorder.

Abstract Unit Trust Schemes provide diversification, liquidity, professional management among other benefits. In order to diversify the funds raised from various unit holders, fund managers adopt a criterion with which funds are allocated optimally. A descriptive research design was adopted, and the study period was 5-years. The ratio of the composition of different asset classes to the fund value was used as the independent variables. Fund age was used as the control variable. Sharpe ratio was used to measure investment returns and that represented the dependent variable of the study. Data was collected from secondary sources and a multiple linear regression model was adopted to assess the association of the variables. Collected data showed normality traits, positive autocorrelation when measured using Pearson correlation coefficients. The data also showed mixed results for multicollinearity tests. The weight of money market instruments, corporate bonds, treasury bonds and equity significantly affected performance of Unit Trust Scheme funds. They all had probability values in the interval of 0 and 0.05. Therefore, the study concluded that asset allocation significantly affects how a fund will perform. Other factors such as timing, manager experience and prevailing economic conditions have to be considered when evaluating performance of a fund.
