The financing risk is a significant issue in the Islamic banking industry that affects its performance. This research aims to examine the factors that influence financing risk on the financial performance of Islamic banking in Indonesia. This study utilized time-series data quarterly from 2009-2020 collected from three types of Islamic banking in Indonesia: Islamic Commercial Bank (ICB), Islamic Business Unit (IBU), and Islamic Rural Bank (IRB). It was analyzed using multiple regression estimation techniques with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. This study revealed that the Islamic banks’ financing risk is significantly influenced by bank capital, financing, economic growth, inflation, and central bank’ rate (BI rates), both negatively and positively. In detail, the increase of bank capital, financing, and economic growth will reduce the financing risks, whilst inflation and BI rate increase the financing risks. The findings also disclosed that Islamic banks' financial performance is influenced by bank capital, operating costs, financing risks, inflation, and BI rates. Thus, the decrease in bank capital, operational costs, and financing risks will subsequently decrease the financial performance, while the increase of inflation and BI rates will increase the financial performance of Islamic banks. Economic growth is the most influential factor in reducing financing risk, while financing risk is the most significant factor in improving banks’ financial performance. The government's efforts to boost economic growth are crucial to reducing financing risks and improving the financial performance of Islamic banks.==========================================================================================================ABSTRAK – Dampak Risiko Pembiayaan terhadap Kinerja Bank Syariah di Indonesia. Risiko pembiayaan merupakan persoalan utama bagi industri perbankan termasuk perbankan syariah. Every financing funded by Islamic banks always contains a risk, including murabahah contracts. The risks faced by Islamic banks are very diverse and multifaceted in line with innovations in the financial and banking products offered. This study is to conduct a critical analysis of the practice of murabahah contracts that have been carried out by almost all Islamic banks in Indonesia. The analysis is carried out with reference to ten categories of risk regulated in the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Regulation number 65/POJK.03/2016. This study uses a qualitative approach in the form of a literature study to describe the problem identified. The results show that financing with a murabahah contract takes various risks, namely: financing risk, market risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, legal risk, reputation risk, strategic risk, compliance risk, return risk, and investment risk. The implication is that Islamic banks shall give attention to all those risks that have been identified by preparing mitigation efforts

This study aims to analyze the risks on Islamic banks in Indonesia by identifying which risk is significantly dominant in triggering other risks to happen. For that purpose, the study uses time series data on a monthly basis from 2010:M1 to 2018:M8. The data are obtained from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Indonesia and analyzed using vector autoregression (VAR). Some variables are employed to proxy risk vulnerability including financing-to-deposit ratio (FDR) as a proxy of liquidity risk, nonperforming financing (NPF) as a proxy of financing risk, and cost-to-income ratio (BOPO) as a proxy of operational risk. The findings suggest that financing risk is the most dominant risk triggering vulnerability on Islamic banks in Indonesia.

The uniqueness of Islamic banks (IBs) is shown through compliance with Islamic law (Sharia) which is approved through Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) and presented for stakeholders by Sharia Supervisory Board Report (SSBR). This study seeks to achieve three main objectives as follows: (1) it identifies the degree of IBs’ transparency in compliance with Sharia and their commitment with the governance standards that issued by Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI); (2) it aims to measure the impact of adoption AAOIFI on the degree of Sharia disclosure; and (3) it seeks to test the economic consequences of Sharia disclosure based on its impact on financial performance. We analyse content of annual reports and websites of 120 IBs across 20 different countries for year 2016. Regression analysis shows compliance level for Sharia disclosure based on our index for SSBR is 53% with higher level compliance for IBs that apply AAOIFI standards comparing with banks that adopting International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Therefore, adopting AAOIFI has a positive effect on enhancing the degree of Sharia disclosure. Moreover, Sharia compliance has a positive influence on financial performance based on both Returns on Assets (ROA) and Tobin’s Q as a robustness test. This study adds value to Islamic accounting literature by being a primary study. There is a lack of research on the topic and this paper measures the consequences of Sharia disclosure over the financial performance of IBs as well as the role of Islamic standards (AAOIFI) in enhancing the image of Islamic banks through supporting their compliance with Sharia.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility in moderating the effect of zakat on Islamic commercial banks’ financial performance. Out of 13 Islamic commercial bank listed by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan from 2012 to 2017, there were only five banks reporting Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements. Hence, the final samples of this study consist of 30 observation data. Secondary data collected from 30 annual reports were gathered through documentation. This study utilizes moderated regression analysis to test three research hypotheses. The results shows several findings. Firstly, the amount of corporate zakat being reported in the Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements has positive impact on Islamic banks’ financial performance. Secondly, Islamic CSR as measured by Islamic reporting index developed by Belal et al. (2015) has negative impact on Islamic Banks’ financial performance. Thirdly, the role of Islamic CSR in moderating the effect of zakat on financial performance was confirmed.
