The use of medicine derived from natural ingredients had already begun since ancestors and passed down from generation to generation. However, the properties of those various plants were not clinically been proven. This study aims to find out phytochemical content of medicinal forest plants based on information from the local communities. The study was conducted in two ecosystem types namely wetland ecosystem in peat swamp of Sungai Rasau, Sebangau National Park, Central Kalimantan and dryland ecosystem in Meratus Mountain slope, Peramasan Bawah village, South Kalimantan. Vegetation data in the field was collected by making line transect. Phytochemical analyses qualitatively was done in the Faculty of Math and Natural Science laboratory of Lambung Mangkurat University, while specimen samples were taken from some species that commonly used by the local communities for medicinal purpose as 100 to 150 g of gross weight of each plants. Then the plant specimens were tested for their secondary metabolites comprised steroids/triterpenoids, quinone, tannin, flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids tests in the laboratory. The research results showed that medicinal plants used by local communities were still available in their natural habitat.

The research results showed that medicinal plants used by local communities were still available in their natural habitat In dryland ecosystem, there were 27 plant species discovered and 22 species found in peat swamp ecosystem that potentially use as herbal medicine. Phytochemical analyses showed that most of the plant samples were proved to have secondary metabolites in the form of steroid/triterpenoids, quinone, tannin, flavonoid, saponins and alkaloids. This condition showed that those plant species have potential as herbal medicine. This paper analyzes the processes by which the Sebangau National Park in Central Kalimantan (Indonesia) was established, along with the management activities implemented and the impacts of such activities on local communities. Employing an environmental justice lens, which revolved around procedural, recognition, and distribution issues, we found that local communities were not adequately consulted or involved in the establishment and management of the national park. Furthermore, approaches to mitigate the adverse impacts failed to fully consider the diverse cultures and customs with different livelihood strategies surrounding the park. The research also found that the options made available for local livelihoods were limited and did not meet specific needs and demands of certain ethnic groups. Overall, the transformation of the Sebangau production forest into a conservation area significantly disrupted local livelihoods and led to pronounced adverse economic, social, and cultural impacts. Thus, adequate attention to environmental justice must be made if park authorities are to improve the social acceptability of the national park. They should meaningfully engage the local communities in decision-making procedures related to park management, because they are directly impacted by the park. The authorities should also understand the different sociocultural aspects related to the local people surrounding the park and their different needs and livelihood strategies. Finally, the livelihood alternatives should be carefully assessed, and locals should be adequately consulted to ensure that these are socially and culturally accepted.

Cuscus is a marsupials, nocturnal, prehensile tails, and included to the family of Phalangeridae. In Indonesia, Ailurops, Phalanger, Spilocuscus and Strigocuscus have limited distribution on Eastern Indonesia (Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Timor Island). In Indonesia cuscus are protected animals. This is due to the decline in population in its natural habitat due to deforestation, poaching and illegal wild life trade. Study is needed on the type of cuscus feed in native habitat base on the original character of vegetation in the hope of helping wild life conservation efforts in the future. The strategy of cuscus conservationin-situ and ex-situfrom native habitat will be more focused and effective if the potential information of plants as a food source can be known with certainty.The purpose of this study was to determine the types of plants as feed cuscus (Phalangeridae) from Maluku in the Northern part of Manusela National Park, Central Maluku district. The results showed 44 species of forest plants consumed by cuscus in Manusela National Park. The cuscus from Maluku consume young leaves from 29 species plants  (66%), fruit from 26 species plants (59%), flowers from 4 species plants (9%), shoots from 3 species (7%) of plants. Eight plant species (18%) are consumed its fruit and young leaves, two plant species (5%) are consumed its fruit and flowers, one plant species (2%), consumed its fruit and shoots, and two plant species ( 5%) are consumed its young leaves, flowers, and fruit. Palatability of the cuscus showed that each cuscus choos 43 species of plants (98%) as a food, P. orientalis and P.Urinusdid not choose Syzygium aqueum while S. maculatus, and P. vestitus did not choose Flacourtia inemis as resources feed.   Kuskus adalah hewan berkantung (marsupial), aktif di malam hari (nocturnal), berekor panjang yang kuat (prehensile), dan masuk dalam famili Phalangeridae. Di Indonesia, kuskus dari anggota genus Ailurops, Phalanger, Spilocuscus, dan Strigocuscus menyebar terbatas hanya di Indonesia Bagian Timur (Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, dan Pulau Timor). Di Indonesia, kukus termasuk dalam hewan yang dilindungi. Dibutuhkan studi untuk mengidentifikasi jenis pakan kuskus pada habitat alami yang diharapkan dapat membantu usaha konservasi satwa ini di masa mendatang. Strategi konservasi kuskus secara in-situ maupun ex-situ berdasarkan asal habitat akan lebih terarah dan berhasil guna apabila informasi potensi tumbuhan sebagai sumber pakan dapat diketahui dengan pasti. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis tumbuhan sebagai pakan kuskus (Phalangeridae) asal Maluku di Taman Nasional Manusela bagian Utara, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, ditemukan 44 spesies tumbuhan hutan yang dikonsumsi kuskus di Taman Nasional Manusela. Dari hasil penelitian terlihat bahwa kuskus asal Maluku pada umumnya mengonsumsi bagian tumbuhan yang masih muda berupa daun muda 29 spesies (66%), buah 26 spesies (59%), bunga 4 spesies (9%), dan tunas 3 spesies (6%). Delapan spesies tumbuhan (18%) dengan komposisi buah dan daun muda paling disukai kuskus, dua spesies tumbuhan (5%) dengan komposisi buah dan bunga, satu jenis tumbuhan (2%), dengan komposisi buah dan tunas muda, serta dua spesies tumbuhan (5%) dengan komposisi daun muda, bunga, dan buah. Palatabilitas pada kuskus menunjukkan bahwa setiap genus kuskus memilih 43 spesies tumbuhan (98%) sebagai sumber pakan, P.orientalis dan P. Urinus tidak memilih Syzygium aqueum sedangkan S. maculatus, dan P. vestitus tidak memilih Flacourtia inemis sebagai sumber pakan.

This study aims to determine the strategy for the development of community-based tourism areas in Sebangau National Park, Central Kalimantan Province. Descriptive qualitative analysis derived from the SWOT method was applied as an analytical tool. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. Correspondents consist of the local tourism office, Sebangau National Park office, Sebangau district official, Kereng Bangkirai officials, community leaders, local communities and visitors. The results show that, first, the strategy for the development of Sebangau National Park tourist area includes building infrastructure that supports tourism development, and cooperating with the private sector and the government to invest. Secondly, strategies based on SWOT analysis obtained alternative ST (Strength and Threats) strategies. These are, first, to utilize the strength and to pay attention to threats in increasing visits to the Park. Secondly, considering that the Park has potentials that are still original and beautiful and paying attention to threats. Lastly, to develop other tourist areas that increase competition.

The distribution of a species can help guide the protection activities in their natural habitat. Conversely, the lack of information on this distribution makes the protection strategy of this species difficult. The research was conducted in Way Canguk Research Station, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park from January until March 2018. The purposes of this research were to create a distribution prediction map of Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica) and estimating the environment variables that most influenced the probability of the distribution. Fourteen points of camera trap coordinates were used for presence data with nine types of environment variables such as elevation, slope, understorey, canopy cover, distance from roads, distance from rivers, distance from villages, food source, and distance from the threat. The result of maxent showed an Area Under the Curve (AUC) value of 0.909 categorized as very good. The highest probability of Sunda pangolin distributions was in the Pemerihan Resort and Way Haru Resort area, while the dominant environmental variables included the distance from the village, the canopy cover, and the distance from threat with the value 47.7; 25.85; and 15.8%, respectively. Prediction maps and environment variables can help to identify the population of Sunda pangolin in the wild and can provide input for the national parks to prioritize protection areas for Sunda pangolin from the increased poaching.

Research on the diversity of ferns in the forests of Tumbang Manggu, Sub-district Sanaman Mantikei, Central Kalimantan, has been done. The study was conducted in March – April 2016  by using explorative methods. The results show, at least 28 species of ferns were found in the forest area, of which 16 species are terrestrial ferns and 12 species of epiphytic ferns. These species are included in 22 genera and 14 families. Huperzia and Pyrrosia are most abundant, each genus were consists of 3 species. The most rich families in term number of species are Polypodiaceae and Lycopodiaceae, with 6 species and 4 species respectively. Abundance of each species in the region was different, Blechnum orientale L., Dicranopteris linearis (Burm. f.) Underw., Lycopodiella cernua (L.) Pic. Serm., and Vittaria scolopendrina (Bory) Schkuhr ex Thwaites were found in large quantities and spread almost all over the region. Asplenium nidus L., Drynaria quercifolia (L.) J. Sm., Stenochlaena palustris (Burm. f.) Bedd., Lygodium circinatum (Burm. f.) Sw., Pyrrosia lanceolata (L.) Farw., Nephrolepis falcata (Cav.) C. Chr. and Vittaria ensiformis Sw. were found in considerable numbers. Asplenium pellucidum Lam., Athyrium bantamense Milde, Helminthostachys zeylanica (L.) Hook. and Tectaria crenata Cav. were found in small quantities and only in certain places. Local communities around the region have not much utilizing the ferns yet.

Borneo has wide land that support high biodiversity. One of them is Tanjung Puting National Park (TPNP), which have biodiversity such as terrestrial mammalian carnivore. Carnivore has a role to maintain its ecosystems. But, there are no data for population density of terrestrial mammalian carnivore. The object of this research is to find out population density of terrestrial mammalian carnivore in Camp Leakey, TPNP, Central Borneo. This research accomplished in September-October 2015 in Camp Leakey. Using line-transect sampling. Data collection was accomplished at 18.00-24.00 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) on eight transects with three times replication by direct surveys and indirect surveys. This research has obtained five species, malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus), sunda clouded leopard (Neofelis diardi), leopard cat, and group of civet, like small-toothed palm civet (Arctogalidia trivirgata) and asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). Population density of each species from the highest to the lowest is 13,5 Individual of leopard cat/km2, 9,84 Individual of malayan sun bears/km2, 4,31 Individual of sunda clouded leopard/km2, and 3,65 Individual of civet/km2. Malayan sun bears, sunda clouded leopards and civets prefer to be in land forest. Leopard cats prefers to be in transition forest.

Vegetation structure and floristic composition of tree species in the habitat of Scaphium macropodum in Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 3025-3033. Scaphium macropodum (Miq.) Beumee Ex K Heyne is a member of Malvaceae tree species and globally recognized as malva nut and locally known as ‘kembang semangkok’, ‘tempayang’, ‘merpayang’ or ‘kepayang’. The nut of S. macropodum has many benefits for medicinal purposes, yet destructive extraction of this tree species has led them to extinction. Among its natural distribution in Indonesia, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia is known as its original range, but there is limited information about the existence of this species. This study aimed to determine the vegetation structure of some tree species in the habitat of S. macropodum in Sikundur, Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia. Purposive sampling technique was employed by creating line transect at some forest areas where the population of S. macropodum is known to grow naturally. Four line transects with each transect consisting of five plots with nested plots within were established to record data at four growth stages, resulting in 80 plots in total. The results showed that the Important Value Index (IVI) of S. macropodum within the floristic community at the studied area was 21.98, 13.85, 27.30, and 39.60 for tree, pole, sapling, and seedlings stages, respectively. The Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index (H) were 3.80, 3.70, 3.06 and 2.45, Index of evenness (E) are 0.94, 0.92, 0.86, 0.77 and the Index of Richness (R) are 11.76, 10.73, 6.59, 4.10 for tree, pole, sapling, and seedlings stages. This result suggests that the natural population of S. macropodum in Sikundur forest was still in good condition at all stages from tree to seedling.

The purpose of this study to analyze the correlation of  tourism development with livelihood strategies and living standard of fisherman household of Karimunjawa Village. Type of attraction that developed in Indonesia is ecotourism and tourism. Tourism development are good not only focus on the balance of nature and level of the economy, but also the welfare of local communities. Fisherman are part of the local community in the implementation of coastal tourism and small islands. This study will analyze about tourism and fisher household. This research combined quantitative approach using questioner method and qualitative approach using interview method. The result of this study explained about the development of tourism had affected the livelihood strategy of fisherman household. Implementation of the strategy is not only living as part of efforts to sustain life, but also improve the standard of living of  fishermen household.Keywords: ecotourism, national park, livelihood structure-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ABSTRAKPenelitian dilaksanakan di Kabupaten Lombok Tengah, Nusa Tenggara Barat, yang mencakup dua dusun, yaitu Dusun Sade, Desa Rembitan, Kecamatan Jonggata dan Dusun Ketangge, Desa Sukarara, Kecamatan Pujut. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk melihat struktur nafkah dan bentuk strategi nafkah rumahtangga penenun. Penelitian ini juga menganalisis pengaruh pemanfaatan lima modal nafkah terhadap resiliensi rumahtangga penenun. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif yang didukung dengan data kualitatif. Metode kuantitatif dilakukan melalui pendekatan survei dan menggunakan kuesioner. Pengumpulan data kualitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan wawancara mendalam. Pendekatan lain yang digunakan adalah melalui observasi lapang di lokasi penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh antara modal nafkah terhadap tingkat resiliensi, serta memaparkan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat resiliensi rumahtangga penenun di dua dusun. Faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat resiliensi di Dusun Sade yaitu pinjaman, tingkat alokasi tenaga kerja dan penguasaan keterampilan. Sedangkan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat resiliensi rumahtangga penenun di Dusun Ketangge yaitu pinjaman, tingkat lama waktu bersekolah dan tingkat investasi barang.Kata kunci: ekowisata, taman nasional, struktur nafkah

Since the enactment of decentralization local government have been granted the authority to organize, protect society etc. Given the authority that Central Kalimantan provincial government issued a policy (Pergub No. 15 tahun 2010 on guidelines for land clearing and yard for the people) to protect the local community in the tradition / habit of farming by burning forests to customary provisions. The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the extent to which public policy relevance since the issuance of the policy in 2010-2015 and to what extent these policies protect the local wisdom. the method used is descriptive qualitative study, using the study of literature in the process of data collection. Results and discussion of these studies show that 1) in 2015 created a policy that is no longer relevant because the whole area of Central Kalimantan is 15.3 million hectares, 12.7 hectares (78%) is controlled by plantation companies. 2) goodwill by the Government of Central Kalimantan to protect local communities need to be given appreciation. But this policy could apply / relevant if it is done before the 90s because many forests and local people still farming to meet food needs.
